Fabrice Santoro, making his 14th appearance at the tournament, thrilled the home crowd by beating Spain's Albert Montanes 7-6 6-2 to set up a second-round clash with world No.3 Novak Djokovic.

"I don't know him well and I've never played him," the 34-year-old Frenchman said of his next opponent, who is 14 years his junior.

"Last year we trained here together and he asked me if he could have his picture taken with me. This time I think I will be the one to ask."

"Fabrice deserved to win but I played really badly," said Djokovic. "I had foot surgery a couple of weeks ago and I've been under medication since.

OK, new info from another source and this makes more sense. It seems something was lost in translation earlier.

The 20-year-old said he was struggling following dental surgery to remove two wisdom teeth.

"I couldn't give my 100 percent, not even 30 percent of my possibilities," Djokobvic said.

"He deserved to win. I'm still on medications. I didn't practise for a whole week, I only started practising two days ago. Physically, I'm not feeling at all good."

Now they said in B92 news that he said after the match, he had a foot intervention, too, and had not fully recovered yet.

that explains a lot. dental surgeries suck but as far as I know, the recovery doesn't last long.

and all this foot/tooth mix up is just too funny :rolls:

I had my wisdom teeth removed recently and felt crappy for about 5 days afterwards. I definitely wouldn't want to play Santoro feeling like that.

p.s. since I am confused again, Jiat must be around :p

:smash: well guess what! I wasn't!!! I was preparing to go to bed when you posted that :ras:

Here is a link of his post match interview, I translated the most important part::)

What happened during the match?

Nole : From the beginning of the match,I had difficulties to move and Santoro took controle, he wasn't doing anything special. He was putting the ball in the court and I made too many unforced errors. I wasn't at 1OO%, not even at 30% of my abilities. He deserved to win. I don't try to find me any excuses but we have to take in consideration that I had a little surgery just after Madrid. They removed me 2 wisdom teeth. I didn't practice for a week. Physically, I'm not in great shape at all.

And Now?

Nole: I'll try to rest, to eat a lot because I lost weight. I need to "take some kilos" and work on my physical form, slowly. I've 10 days to be ready for Shanghai . I'm leaving on sunday and I'll have 5,6 days to prepare there.

I am 30, but I haven't got my wisdom teeth yet, my pulmologist said my heart was still young in medical terms (what ever that means), so what is next-a shrink who would tell me my emotions are at the six years old level:eek: ?

But, anyway, thanks for comforting

I'm no doctor, but having a young heart sounds good to me ;)

I have all four of my wisdom teeth, but that doesn't make me feel wise at all.

I think I am wiser after all my wisdom teeth were removed like: don't let your dentist talk you to remove any tooth, including wisdom tooth unless it's absolutely necessary. :armed:

I still have all my wisdom teeth, even though starting 5 years ago they told me to get them out. But they don't bother me at all, and I am against removing parts of my body for no good reason.
