Good match, much easier than the score implies, federer dominated the first set but good guts by Lopez.

You gotta feel for Lopez. He saved ten (TEN!) break points with great aggressive play before Federer got his lone break. Federer cruised on serve, though. Still, Lopez certainly would have beaten many other quarterfinalists today. He actually showed mental strength! If he keeps this up, he'll be top 15 in no time!

That match was just never going to end any other way. Despite the relatively closeness of the score, Fed was in cruise control.

good effort and tourney, Lopez:clap2:

Awful match. Roger did all he needed to win, but nothing more. It just seemed like he wanted to give the audience match time equivalent to the ticket price
Onto the semis then

PS Lopez had more winners

Did you watch the match? On most of those break points, he didn't do much wrong.

Nothing to be ashamed of for Lopez. He saved 10/11 BP's...that's good against anyone, let alone Federer. He had a great tournament, his third in a row. Albert Costa is a genius.

Congrats to Roger.

Spot on! Lalo was playing a lot better than the match's notes say, and deserves a lot more credits for his game (at least at the level he's playing right now) than he usually gets.

Not a moment in doubt that Roger would win this match, though. He held his serve a lot easier than Lalo, so I consider this a deserved win by the far better player. Vamos, Rogelio! :hatoff:

Good Tie Break year for Fedexho in 07... the real king of TBS, not that Serb.

Lopez was very good, but I think his backhand sealed his doom.
Congrats to Fed. Fantastic serve.

Congrats Roger.

Lopez has done himself proud this tournament- he seems to have a better attitude. Maybe he is sowing the seeds for a good 2008.

Lopez, he saved so many breakpoints. I thought that must have emotionally cost him, to be down and trying to fight out of a hole so many times.

Great. So Federer is closer to defending his points, and closer to securing No. 1! What a wild ride today.

Lopez actually held his nerve throughout the majority of this match, I'm amazed. A sign of good things to come? Maybe.
Federer wasn't going to lose this one, he dictated play and seemed really pumped up after he won.

Lopez was feeling the pressure because Fed was holding so easy and that put extra pressure on him to hold because he could not afford to go down a break.

Only two bad errors on important points in the first set, that one breakpoint where he got the serve back and dumped a forehand into the net, then a missed backhand pass at 6-5 and 15-30 on the Lopez serve. Other than that Lopez had to fight like a demon to stay competitive in the match and kept coming up with bullets on breakpoints, the mental effort more than anything cost him in the end as Federer reeled off 12 straight points from 3-4 in the second.

Their matches always have close scorelines, and the QF battle here four years ago was a memorable one, but without better returns, groundstrokes and passing shots it's hard to see how Lopez can threaten Federer's serve often enough to get the victory. What was it, 8 points he won on return today? Ironically two of those were in the tiebreak and he still lost it 7-4.

Never any doubt. Roger is holding serve very easily these days except for that weird 3rd set vs Denko.

FeLo, thumbs up on a great tournament :yeah: Albert Costa is doing an amazing job

But the better man won today, no doubts about that. Hope to see Federer - Nalbandian final.

No one can accuse Lopez of lacking effort in this one or Federer of not being made to work for the victory :yeah: The Swiss may not have been pressed on his serve but, as one of the commentators (Goodall I think) noted, he had to stay very focused and sharp against a big server who's troubled him to some extent before and not let all those missed break chances faze him. Glad to see none of the apparent lapses of concentration or shaky moments that Fed has been somewhat prone to of late in this match.

Federer, what a party pooper! He kicked out the live band because they were too loud :p .

Pissed off because his planned on-flight party to Paris with Rafa was unfortunately cancelled by Nalby, I guess... :p
I feel like I understand.

Hope to see Federer - Nalbandian final.
That would be an intriguing encounter I admit, even though Nalbandian could be a dangerous opponent in his current form for the No. 1  As much as I enjoy Federer simply winning, I also like to see him seriously challenged on occassion and made to play at a consistently high level. While he showed some flashes of inspiration during his last two matches against Djokovic, the Serb doesn't seem to be bringing out the best in him of late. Maybe an older nemesis whom he hasn't played in a while is just the motivation Fed needs to raise his game in the final.

That being said, I'll still be rooting for Nole tomorrow :p

PS Lopez had more winners

Fed played very well to pressure Lopez in almost every service game. Faced 0 breaks on his serve. Lopez played great on the break points and fought well.

PS Lopez had 4x more errors. At least try and give a fair assesment of the match.

I watched til 7-6 1-1 in the second and i turned off the tv. It's terribly boring match. Fed just know his enemy was nothing near to be threat to him. It's far worse compared when he beat Canas convincingly, i mean it was more fun to see it.

I even dont call this match tight. It's just a practice for Federer. But anyway congrats for him!!

Expected result I guess.
Couldn't watch the match, but from what I read, :yeah: to Lopez for putting up a great fight. Hope he keeps up this form.
