can't believe these two have never met.

Can Nalbandian turn his season around here?

scoobs

And both of them seem in reasonable form.

If nothing else it will be good for them to meet so all the fuss about them never playing is put behind us.

I'd be very disappointed if Nadal lost to Nalbandian.

I doubt he will either.

Hmmm... like to so much hyped-up meetings of Raf vs. Safin, I think this will be a rather mediocre match with Raf whiping Dave off court in two straight sets. Could be wrong though, but I don't really see what Dave has as weapons against an obviously in-form Nadal.
We'll see what happens. :D

Yeah I don't think it's going to be the greatest match but after how long it's taken for them to play each other, it will be nice to see how they do match up and to get it over with.

People forget how well Nalbandian is capable of playing - i guess because he hasn't shown it once this year :o

I was never a big fan when he was at the top but now he's not there i miss him because the tour misses a player his quality challenging Federer, Nadal and now Novak.

I just wish fatso would get back into shape because it would make such a difference.

dave against nadal indoors?

on paper, dave has a great shot. The surface suits his game and he will be able to dictate against nadal. We will see whether he comes to play though.

Highly unlikely Dave will bring his A game, but if he does, he's difficult to beat and will make a match out of it. His serve has improved so he should be able to get some free points. He's going to have to come to net after some of his combos to finish the point off because unlike his other opponents, Nadal won't be worked over by a one-two or one-two-three combo that Fat Dave can do so sublimely well.

But lets be honest, dear. Anything less than Nadal over Federer on Sunday in a sublime display of defense, tactics, clutch serves, aggression, vamos, and an overall match tighter than Nalbandian in spandex would you rate higher than the one today, no? ;)

Well....there is that I suppose.

I guess not much could top my two favorite players playing a superb match.

Even though he has the big BH to counter Nadal's loopy FH, Fat Dave has no big serve to fall back on and he certainly doesn't have enough power. Nadal has been playing surprisingly well this week and unless he drops his level this should be one-sided.

Hola Mr. SK
10-19-2007, 06:38 AM
No doubt Rafa will win. He's in decent form,if not better. It's only a matter of how Nalby loses this one. If his game is off,he will get destroyed. If he brings his A game with both of the wings on fire,he can still manage to choke it away after a set and a break up. Rafa is just way tougher mentally. Nalby, the tactic master, might come up with mixed games, but that regular drop shot attempt is not going to work against Rafa for sure. Rafa in two, though I'd like to be proved wrong.

Unfortunately I doubt that David will be able to beat Nadal today and reach the last 4 at Madrid for the 4th consecutive year, but I bet that he is much better than Rafa at pool and also Pro-Evolution soccer on the Playstation 2, and that's what really counts :)

If Nalbi puts his A game on this kind of court, Nadal is dead. But it will not happen. Anything below this A level means Nalby will lose, even in straights

I'm not entirely convinced of that. I think right now Rafa at his best is better than David at his best. Not so 3 years ago, but today I give Nadal the edge.

Nalbandian at his absolute best would still beat Nadal I think but that goes for a huge number of attacking players and doesn't really matter when you consider the chances of most of those guys bringing their absolute best to the table for 3 sets are so slim.

I was referring to the best that they can bring in a match, not at any given point.

Case in point - Lalo taking a set off Federer at the US Open. We all knew there was no way he was winning that match. But I see your point.

Well exactly and that was my point. A match in a hundred Nalbandian will bring what it takes to get the job done two out of three sets but Nadal is just far better far more often.

What absolute tripe.

What did Nalbandian "at his best" achieve in his career? A hammering in a Wimbledon final and 1 fluke TMC win?

Nalbandian at his best is the best baseline rallier in the world in my opinion. Yes, better than Federer even.

He has never consistently shown his best form but he has outplayed Federer for set or set and a half periods often and the same goes for most other top players.

Difference is I am not a Nalbandian fan. I enjoy his game, it is very nice to watch but I don't hope for him to win matches on the whole. It is just my viewpoint and not coming from a deluded fan.

Interesting to see that so far the Nadal - Nalbandian match has supported the argument but one set does not a match make and countless times Nalbandian has played like God for a set and barely won a game afterwards.

This Nalbandian is playing insanely well, it's just the question if he's to sustain such level

Allegretto
10-19-2007, 04:06 PM
Nalbandian has been rock solid from the back of the court, but Nadal isn't playing well at all. 18 unforced errors in 8 and a half games so far.

/edit/ And make that 19 as he dumps a forehand halfway up the net to get broken.

Interesting point of wiev. I'd place him as the one who posesses the best backhand in men's game, with Federer having the best forehand. I always liked his gamestyle and I think he's one of the greatest underachievers

Secondly, I don't think that Nadal is a bad matchup for Nalby. Everywhere but clay I'd give the edge to David IF he's playing his best (or close to it). That's because the precision of his shots is simply outstanding and Murray just as Djokovic showed that you don't have to have Gonzo's forehand or Agassi's backhand to defeat Nadal
