Could Andy Murray Still Qualify For Shanghai?

Gonzalez looks more than likely to clinch the #7 position in the Race though technically is it still possible Murray could qualify 8th?

Should he win St.Petersberg how well would he have to do in the Paris Masters in order to qualify?

Would what happened in Madrid with most of the main Race contenders bowing out early need to happen again?

Because, based upon Murray's play in Madrid I think the elite 8 in Shanghai would look better having him than a Robredo, Blake, Haas or Ljubicic.

I think it's still technically possible but it's going to be very difficult now and depend a lot on what others do as well as him needing to put together very good runs in St Petersburg and Paris.

He would defenitely deserve to be there... hope he manages!

If Murray wins St.Petersberg that would give him 331 points and the current #8 in the Race is on 329 points.

I just checked the entry lists of next week's optional tournaments and for Murray to have a decent chance of qualifying 8th not only will he have to win St.Petersberg and do well in Paris but he'll have to hope that Gasquet, Robredo and Ljubicic do poorly in Lyon and Berdych in Basel.

This was a good week to pile on the points. Most of the contenders lost and were "frozen out" for the week so Murray could have really helped his cause if he'd been able to find a way through Nadal.

Next week and in Paris he still could, but it's going to be awful hard and the other contenders are back in the game and could take it out of his hands.
