Young guns from Serbia

Novak Dj

After Nole who is born in 1987. Serbia didn`t have great talents, but things are changing.

Ilija Vucic (1990.) and Filip Krajinovic - Piskovic (1992.) are the greatest Serbian talents at the moment. Ilija plays at the moment in Mansfield (15K) where he won against 1st seed Fruttero who was top200 player recently. Filip is in top10 in Europe for boys under 16. Good luck boys.

Nice article :) .So it seems he will try out U-18 sometimes this year.I guess he will sort out where he is going to continue training (obviously not in Serbia...) and sponsorship and do some practicing.Really don't expect his next tournament to be U-14 one, just wondering will he jump to juniors right away or will he play some U-16 first.Right now he deserves some rest after those two titles in two weeks :) .

cosmic
04-15-2009, 07:07 PM
He better sticks to U-14. I mean, playing U-18 at the age of 13 wouldn't be such a smart choise.

Radalek
04-15-2009, 09:49 PM
Well his team says they feel that he can compete with them, ofc they don't expect from him to win things playing with 17-18 yr old guys but if he can hang well there in he should play it, will mature much faster that way...He can go and try some low ranked tournament to start with just to see how will he do and if that goes bad he can always go a step back and play U-16, I am sure he will be pretty ok there.

cosmic
04-17-2009, 05:34 PM

The greatest problem of his in that match was that the other guy was making him play 5 meters behind the line as he was saying to himself
That little comeback he made from 2-5 to 5-5 in the second set, he looked really good, moving well, being more aggressive, great serve, hit a few aces... Then he was serving to stay in the match, 5-6, and I guess he lacks experience in those moments, first ATP level tournament...
Hopefully he'll play futures in Serbia, I think they're in June, so I can see him play again. He will probably be more confident at that level.

what do you know about borna coric,is he good it's seems?

Well, he just turned 13 so it's hard to give some solid predictions. He is extremely talented but becoming a teen is the most sensitive period...along from transition from juniors to pro tour. Many talents were lost there.
For example Milojevic successfully translated his game when his body started to change 2 years ago and is by far the best prospect in his age.He will be 14 in a month and is already beating 18 yr old juniors. That alone won't mean anything if he doesn't make it when he goes pro in few years.
Borna is too talented and will most likely make it and have a nice career but for something more certain we should wait for 1-2 years.

i don't know because some menager from IMG(his surname is frankopan,he is menager of bernard tomic, soo very good one)said for coric that he didn't see something like that from murray in that age but on the oder hand some poster from croatia said he is soo good because he is training alot.but i think that isn't correct.i mean menager is most competent than some poster.
one mistake, coric will turn 13 in november.i know he won against milojevic in final of moskva in last november, but like you said he is so young.
milojevic is way better now.that is quit understandable for me(it was just half years ago) because milojevic starting to to play like this on the start of the season,so just 2 months after that match.so it seems that is very fast changing things at that age.is that true?

he has very good requirement.he was born in zagreb, but he is in the best tennis club in croatia,tk split.
he is 5rd in the U-14(he was 2nd) and he is the youngiest in the top 10.quinzi is 2nd youngiest, but he is about 10 months older(there are saying quinzi is a big talent).there are only two others in top 30 from generation 1996 and overall about 10 in top 100.all of them are older than coric about 6 months or more(except one boy which is 3 months older, that boy is 94.).
the boy which is born almost at the same date as coric is 129., so it's seems coric is something special.and coric is quit small for his ages so it's not that coric is stronger than others.

Radalek
05-27-2009, 03:44 PM
Well at their age things are changing very fast, you learn to do some things one way and since you grow up fast and your body changes that may not work well in few months, on the other side for some boys things and the way they play just suddenly click when they become stronger and bigger and they start to play some good tennis.
As for Milojevic starting to play this well, he had 2 months break and offseason and you can see that he obviously worked and trained well in that period. He became so dominant at his age that his management doesn't want to him to play with his age group any more, there's no use for him to do that.He will develop much faster playing with older guys.
If he does continue playing U-18 tournaments he needs to be aware that it's not about results and that playing with tougher opposition is for his developing purposes only. Results will come in 2 years or something.
As for Borna, they need to be careful with him and not push him now since he's younger than Milojevic, give him another year to see how his body will start to develop and then make a choice of further steps in his career.
Anyway, I hope both of them will be regular on tour in 5-6 years.

it's is just one boy from generation 1997.(he is 153.) and he is one year youngiest.coric was about 350. at he end of 2007 and 97. at the end of 2008 in U-14,so it seems they are of same quality.
i know it's hard to say what will be at this age.

which boys to follow from serbia and croatia from U-12,U-14,U-16?
what about jankovic and pavic?

Didn't look much at juniors in Croatia, heard a bit about Borna, he's by far the best prospect.
As for juniors in Serbia, Milojevic and Jankovic are ones to follow.Krajinovic ofc, but he's starting his pro career now and is a bit older than them.Of those "older" guys Zlatanovic and Lajovic might do something.
There's a lot of young players incoming, especially with tennis boom in Serbia recently so I guess there will be much more to follow in years to come. For now we should keep our eyes on these above :) .

I'm from Belgrade ;) .
For now we should keep our eyes on these above :) .

thanks for informations.

Milojevic did got WC for that G4 tournament in Hungary, but if he keeps going like this he won't need wild cards soon, at least for those lower grade tournaments :) .This QF will put him inside top 1000 Juniors and he will be youngest one there :) .

Both matches were played today, in tough conditions and Nikola is barely 14...No way he could cope with 18 yr olds playing 2 matches in one day. But great win and some more points for him. I wonder if he is continuing with U-18 tournaments. We'll see soon enough.

Nice :) . I think he decided to play more U-18 tournaments and if he does well he will play only those from now on.
Milojevic on the other hand had played some U-14 championship for Serbia and had some problems. Not sure if he had been sick or he was slightly injured but he lost a match and had to skip next one before coming back to play doubles.
Anyway nice result for Miki, keep it up :) .

Miki Jankovic is playing another G5 in Greece and started it with 6-1 6-1 victory. If he's able to go far in another junior tournament just week after he won one and being just 14 would be great sign. Another talented boy, Pedja Krstin, is playing there and he's in 2nd round too.

Yeah:) . With that difference that Nikola won Tarb tournament too, so he has both most prestige U-14 titles, and he has been so dominant in past 6 months...really good signs. Now as far as I know he will play a bit less till the end of the year. Since he played a lot of tournament and won all of them he already has a lot of matches this year...needs a bit of rest and lighter schedule. Less tournaments, only some grade A ones and a lot of training so he can focus only on juniors next year.

I just saw interview with him, he's a nice kid :) . Serbia still lacks proper tennis facilities for training so he will heading to Bollettieri tennis academy to continue his development there. He said he will focus on training and U-18 tournaments from now on.
It will be hard period for him, he needs to adapt being away from home and in different country, a lot of new things while working on his game. Wish him luck and I hope we'll see a new star rising in a few years :) .

Ok, now I don't mean to sound sycophantic, but how about this for a quite astonishing win.

Anybody knows something about Danilo Petrovic?
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Pe/D/Danilo-Petrovic.aspx
He's playing futures back from 2008!!! Don't know anything about his junior career, nut seems that he didn't play much on that level.
He's 551st in rankings, got some finals and SFs future level, and even played qualies of Montpelier back in 2010.

Springer89

I'd say that Danilo is second best in that generation (1992).
Was very good prospect, ranked 276 in TE U14 2004 final rankings, while, for example, Janowicz was #274, Lajovic #355, Fucsovics #418. Was ranked #70 in 2006 TE U14 final rankings.

Played EU summer and Winter Cups, representing Serbia in U14, U16 and U18.
