Congrats to Norway, they came close in the past but this time they managed to cross the line for the 1st time in their history, defeating the USA team in the final.

Italy was the defending champs and the favourite for the event but they lost against South Africa in the quarters.

Just came back from my USA/Canada trip to read the news... Well done, Norway! They have a great team, always had wonderful players (Geir Helgemo!!! :worship: !!!) and finally managed to beat the US!

Strange to see the Blue Team lose to South Africa... well, well. :S

I'm of course very happy for our OWN Dutchie team - Bronze medal, not bad at all. Hope to see some of the lads performing at our club over here again soon, they are an awesome team as well - and very nice guys, too. :D

It is great to see another bridge follower here :) Yes, Italy losing to South Africa in the quarters was a huge upset but it certainly made the competition very open, all four teams in the semis could win and it was a matter of Norway just prevailing in hands that mattered more. Sure it helps that they have the pair of Helgemo/Helness. By the way, the bulletins of the championship are available online at the worldbridge site: http://www.worldbridge.org/tourn/Shanghai.07/Bulletins.htm

Im not just a mere follower, I play the game myself, heheh.
Even more, my BF is a member of the Dutch Masterclass team, so I indulge myself and think I know a bit about the game, hehe.

Bridge is a truly GREAT game. Wish more folks would know it, yeah! :wavey:

So you are a player thats great :D I can play but I haven't for a long time, there is no time to play here in the US. I learnt the game when I was playing in a chess tournament back in Greece, I got hooked up since then but I was never really good as a player. Obviously, it was all my partner's fault :D Yes, bridge is a total blast, I cannot understand how poker got such a popularity boom when there is no comparison with bridge.
