33rd winning match (9th this year) for Karlović after deciding tie-break set - he equals Moya's record.
Ivo has won 5th match this season after saving MP :worship:
30th ace finished the match (0 DF's).

Still can't get away from the feeling that Ivo should have won easier than that, considering that Clement was maybe not at his best, I think Ivo is still a little tired from Asia despite the w.o. yesterday.

Ivo's in good form. I think 64 aces in two matches shows that Ivo's not too tired. Any win over Clement is a great win for Ivo. Clement is absolutely amazing at returning Ivo's serve. I just hope it's Haas that Ivo plays next. Haas is a fantastic player but he seems to tighten up a lot in close matches, and any match with Ivo is a close match. Then Blake would be a great final opponent for Ivo. The guy stands so close in on service returns Ivo will ace him 40 times.

Head to head 3-3, alternating wins too. Clement-Ivo-Clement-Ivo-Clement-Ivo. So I guess Clement gets the next one.

so a H2H of 3-2 (3-3 after today) is called owning?

If there is something that Ivo is doing amazing this season is in winning close matches against experienced players.

If he works on his fitness to handle better best of 5 matches, I wouldn't be surprised if he reaches Top 10/15 after Wimbledon next season.

THE DOCTOR!:bigclap: way to go, Ivo:dance:

sweet revenge. Gotta love it not only when Ivo wins, but he wins in 3STs - i wonder how many that is for his career.

when did he save the MP? in the breaker? on his own serve I assume?

Yes, and I believe it was an ace. He did close out the match with an ace. He lost one earlier match point at 7-6 on Clement's serve.

Next year will be tough for him as he loses a number of his MM event results...he'll be playing all the clay TMS etc.

Well, he can play those MM events again (last year until they end up being big challengers).

Ivo is actually capable of playing well on clay (wins over Davydenko, Haas, Blake, Montanes, Zabaleta, Robredo - all players that play clay TMS), so I wouldn't rule out him being able to get two or three wins in one or even more clay TMS next season.

ivo is becoming consistent day by day.
back to back semi-finals. :yeah:

thanks for the great match ivo and arnaud.
BTW clement vs ivo matches are always exiting. i hope to see both guys play each other more in future.

Next up possibly tommy haas. 3-1 h2h against him.
haas certainly enjoys playing with karlovic.

he certainly he is capable of defending those mm points. he is quite consistent this season.
plus apart from san jose and houston he doesn't really have anything to defend in the first half of the season until queens.
clay perfectly suits him.(especiallyt with his groundstrokes. also FO was the only gs event where karlovic win a 5 set match this year.)
So clay titles are possible.
Two years ago he used to lose in 2nd rd or in qf. now his forehand and volleying picked up he is really became consistent.

i don't definetly rule out top 10 if he stays fit and don't get injured.(which has been the case last year and first half of this year.)

Well whatever happens with ivo's weakness in groundsrokes it would a great achievement for him to reach top 20.

Agreed on most points. However he's been healthy this whole year. He was healthy 1st half of last year and was up to #44 then was out injured 2nd half of last year. With no TMS points or GS points to defend I think he will only rise in the rankings next year. I'd love to see him hang in there around #20. 25 is OK though. I'd take another year like this year. It's been very fun.

I think clay is Ivo's best surface. His serve dominates on all surfaces cause it's not just pace, it's placement and angles, but on clay he has a better chance at winning return points. Back during the clay season he was breaking serve more. Now on the grass and indoor carpet he rarely if ever breaks serve. With direct entry into TMS tournaments I think he'll win a round or two here and there so his points will probably match the QF points he'll be losing from smaller events. He'll still have some wins and finals points to keep from his 5 scoring small tournaments and there's no way he won't get more points out of the Grand Slams. He's going to be seeded in almost every tourney he plays next year. Plus, he's just damned good now!

You didn't seem to catch his meaning... he was referring to the fact that since Karlovic wasn't eligible for many AMS tourneys this year, he is able to count no less than ELEVEN optionals towards his ranking. No matter how well he defends those MM tourneys, he WILL lose most of those points because he will become eligible for the AMS's next year, due to his much better ranking.

Edit: but of course, noone says he can't perform well in AMS's as well. They are even worth more points anyway.
