Andreev is the better player.

Andreev was the better player, but Marat would have a good chance to win if he was able to convert the bp.

Benneteau was the better player yesterday and Ferrero won the match...

Igor has been in solid form for some weeks now. Not unexpected.

Safin had a pretty nasty draw in all honesty.

You didn't get me.
Andreev IS the better player of the two. Not today, not in this match.
Overall, Andreev > Safin.
Igor was the heavy favorite and confirmed it.

In that case I am looking forward to see Andreev win AO and US open...and also become No.1

Marat was a much better player, as recently as 2005.
Overall, Mara has a much better career.

Marat had no chance.
Andreev is the better player.

The rankings say otherwise but I agree with you, Andreev is just more mobile, more consistent strokes.

2008 will be the telling year for the "comeback"

Marat hasn't made one of his trademark comebacks since the 2005 injury, it's a shame but that is what an injury can do to such a fantastic and dangerous player such as Safin.

Hold on, you are saying Andreev is a better player than Safin ever was?

Igor is definitely the better player at the moment - for some reason I actually considered taking Safin in this match. Considered it for about 10 seconds, then thought better of it.

Safin and Nalbandian both still half the talent, but their brains are like jello right now, for different reasons. Banner just has no confidence, Safin just doesn't care and would probably rather be elsehwere - either partying, or back on the mountain climb (or both!).

If Safin doesn't get past the 4th round of next year's AO hes done and dusted.

Marat's forehand is way off what it used to be. And his motivation isn't what it used to be.

Andreev > post-2005 Safin (Safin with bad knee)

For the rest of their careers Andreev will be the better player. That's what I'm trying to say.

I'll agree with you after Safin has a disgusting 2008 year. But I have faith he will push for the top 10 one last time.

I'll agree with you after Safin has a disgusting 2008 year. But I have faith he will push for the top 10 one last time.I thought he played well at Wimbledon, especially the 3rd set vs Fed.
But he needs the motivation to train hard, and play hard most of the time.

Burrow

He speaks like he is motivated than never before, so I disagree with you here, I can only take his word for it, but he seems to be trying very hard.

When he was younger, I guess he was just better, he never had injury problems, nothing to lose, whole career ahead of him, no pressure.

He has also gained about 20 pounds since he won the US Open back in the day, he was 180 back then but the ATP has him at 195 now, but I could bet you he is over 200. That isn't good for his speed and agility at all, on top of that he still has to take pain killers for the knee.

I wasn't in to watch the third set against Federer, i'll try brown the internet to find a clip.

Well you could be proven right, but I hope he can make a good effort for it next year, with steady and consistent results.

Couldn't really expect much from Safin after that six week break. Only way Andreev was losing this match was if it went to a third set TB.:p ;)

He might say he's motivated, but in his USO loss, he didn't look motivated. It looked like he wanted to go home. Maybe it's aches and pains.

I thought Safin had a mini revival in the second half of 2006, he won a lot of matches on hardcourt and indoor, and was a Davis Cup hero. His current ranking is based on that streak. Since then he has never really found that form again and he will drop way down in the rankings as the points come off.

This loss isn't too suprising. Hopefully next year will be better.

Well he definately had a bad day, you will know if you play competetive tennis now and then, sometimes when you step on court you will find you are not hitting the ball like your capable of, and will have to find a way to win ugly, to grind the match out, and that day Safin couldn't make any inroads and fell in a hole. Wawrinka played a good tournament there, he was no slouch that match either, so that did not help cases.

He only lost the match against Nalbandian in Madrid because of Grilloti, Safin played horrible for first set and a bit then if I remember correctly broke back late in the second and won that, and Safin was on top and on his way to being up in the third and Grilloti allowed Nalbandian to challenge after he struck the ball, commentators were furious and I thought it was terrible.

He was close against Haas and also had his chances in that match.

But the title he had in the bag was Bangkok until he managed to screw it up against Blake.
