How to eliminate choking from the ATP

Rafa = Fed Killa
10-10-2007, 07:36 PM
The current era of ATP is plagued with chokers which takes away from the quality of competition.

The solution is simple - negative reinforcement.

The ATP should fine the players $1000-$100000 for every break point wasted depending on the situation and the tournament.

This method has been used in other sports like minor league baseball coaches fining pitchers who give up a hit on a 0-2 count.

With this system chokers will slowly but surely be forced to leave the ATP and a new golden age of tennis will return. Where all the players will be heroes and fighters as they should be.

I know many bleeding hearts will disagree but this will be best for tennis.

Makes sense.

That way people who constantly choke would not make any cash and be forced to leave the ATP improving the tour as a whole.

Chokers rule.

Chokers are the best.

Chokers are the reason why I love tennis.

Without chokers, the world of tennis would not be the same. Long live chokers.

Seriously. The best thing about chokers is watching how they (hopefully) overcome that mental flaw and become real fighters. If everyone was mentally super-strong to begin with, as soon as they become pro's, we would be robbed of watching such a wonderful transformation.

Because, beating someone else isn't such a great feat as beating yourself.

Maybe there should be anti choking devices which can sense when a player will choke depending on some of his reactions and heart beat

Then when the rating is higher than a maximum the machine beeps and after 3 beeps the match ends for the player who didn't choke :haha:

No competition = no pressure = no choking = greater level of game than ever!!!!!!!
The players could just go out there and hit the ball for two hours, not even counting the points. Imagine those long baseline rallies we would see every day..!

Of course Federer and Nadal also have choke.

But this system is designed to eliminate repeat chokers. The financial loss from one choke wont hurt but repeated chokes will destroy their tennis careers.

I agree with this, choking should be penalised. Players who get broken serving for match should be fined $50000, if they faill to do so twice, they should get banned for at least 6 months. It would eliminate cocksuckers like Almagro from the tour and watching tennis matches would be less painful. Hopefully this rule will get realised some day
