This is a thread for those who like to chat about the pretty little things in life - travel, fine food, art, literature, classical music, life's truths and falsities, etc. :)

Feel free to chat with us! :p

Deb: great pic from Florence :yeah:Nah, fine films are perfectly on topic :D I've heard that it is a really good movie, I will have to check it out especially now that I am obsessed with Italy!

And thanks, I really adore it. When I took it, I hoped and prayed it would come out good. But I didn't really see it til later when i got back to my hotel room and could look at it and i nearly cried :p of my 3,200 ( ) pics from my whole trip it is definitely my favorite :awww: So I'm glad other people enjoy it as well :D

I was on a trip in Italy (may) this year but I wasn't in Florence  I visited Rome, Venice & San Marino and from these 3 cities I like Venice the most :) I was feeling really great there. I've begun to study Italian and I hope to comeback there to visit more interesting places :)

Deboogle!.
10-10-2007, 05:34 AM
ooooooohhhhhhhh :D VENICEEEEEE :D It was my favorite also :) But I think you would like Tuscany too! :D Florence is great, the food in particular there I loved  and of course if you like Renaissance art, it is the place for you. It is smaller and quieter and more quaint than Rome, but it doesn't have the amazing ancient sites of course. But the city itself, I liked better than Rome.

For my next trip of Italy - and I WILL take another one I hope - I want to go to the small towns in Tuscany, like Volterra, San Gimignano, and some others, and then spend some time at the Cinque Terre.

This is my favorite picture from Venice....it will only let me put up a smaller one b/c the file is too big :(

Ok, maybe I cannot pick just one because i loved it there so much

the 2nd one, I over-exposed it on purpose, so that you could see the brightness - that was taken without flash!! The blur you see in the canal is actually a gondola :inlove: the shutter stayed open so long it turned into a blur!

and the third one is just one of the most magical views imaginable. :)

OK I could talk about Italy forever, so I will stop

Sweden and Norway - land of the midnight sun!Excellent choices! While I was in Copenhagen I spent a day over in Sweden in Helsingborg and Malmo - really lovely. wanted to go to Stockholm as one of my best friends says it's amazing, but alas, not enough time :( Those pics! :inlove: Also Saint Petersburg and Minsk (as I didn't catch the communist period, a chance to know how it is exactly - yeah I'm very nostalgic). :p:lol: interesting choice :p well no, interesting reasoning :lol:my dream destination is porto alegre. i think St Basel looks better in photo than in real, the colours were not that pretty when i saw them in reality, as for Notre Dame, is it so clean? i remember the colours were faded out like grey, or may be my memory is wrong

speaking of moscow, i like the Hermitage and the summar palace the most, the views are magnificant, especially the fountains .....

All these pictures make me want to travel again. :awww:

Really? I thought the colours were fabulous at St. Basel's. Notre Dame is more grey, but I love my camera filters. The sky would NEVER be that blue in Paris either.

I would love to go back to Moscow, we were only there for four days and we didn't get a chance to see everything.

Mimi
10-10-2007, 11:58 AM
oh then your camera is very good :D but may be my memory was wrong, i went there 12 years ago :p

oh 4 days for the greedy HK people is not short at all, i think i also just stayed 4 days there? my friend bought a lot of toys (sorry for my bad english, don't know how to say) at street, those which stands as one toy but if you remove them by the head, there are lots of smaller sizes inside

it was a bit remoted when i went there 10 years ago, now? i thnk it is more modern right?

I LOVE those russian dolls (the ones you can open up and there's another inside). I bought two sets when I was there. Some of them are just beautifully designed and there were some which were SO tiny.

There is some really modern stuff in Moscow now but it's not all modernised which is actually really nice. I can't really compare it cause I've only ever been once.

And another Paris picture just because.

Beautiful photos everyone! Makes me yearn to be travelling.
I have a lot of dream destinations but my ultimate dream is to go to Japan- I have a 1 in 24 chance of going next summer for free! I shall carry on hoping anyway.

Two of my faaaavourite cathedrals I have visited, St Basel's in Moscow and the Notre Dame Sacre Coeur in Paris. :inlove: (I am an idiot, thanks PinkFeatherBoa!)

You're welcome. :) It's a lovely photo though, got me in the mood for going back to one of my favourite cities (nearly two weeks away, woot!).

Anyway, whilst I'm here, I might as well share a photo or two and seeing as I spied Glasgow in this thread, you may as well have some Cardiff! :p Oh and yet another Paris (it's tiny though meh).

Angel Glacier. The second pic was moi and my boy climbed up the foot of that glacier. Underneath those rocks, pure non-contaminated ice. The cave about us was hollow and a slip there would drop you about 20ft into ice-cold water. You won't died from the fall but of hypothermia. :p

The north >> The sarf.

Sure London is the big city and fairly pleasant to go sightseeing at but whenever I've visited I've found that they look down on 'northern monkeys' as being second class folk. If Wimbledon was Northern then you'd get proper fans buying the tickets and not the viscounts, lords and QCs.

Up here we have culture in our music, sport, history and landmarks to compete with the big city :) Try Manchester or Leeds, both cities are easily on a par with London. Not Liverpool though, last thing you want to be taught is how to break a car stereo, bindipping, hubcap stealing...etc

Nice stereotypes, go fuck yourself :yeah:

My family are from the North and I'm originally from Derby but I've never found anyone look down on me.

If Wimbledon was in the North there'd be too much rain for the tournament ever to happen.

It doesn't rain anymore up here than darn sarf I'd imagine. Like when the flooding swarmed over the country places like High Wycombe and Oxford were getting soaked whilst up here in the wonderful Wirral peninsula which is in close proximity to the water, we never got a droplet.

Whereabouts do you live now?

hey now, this is a thread trying to show that ALL places are great. No need to try to compete.

Of course, I just don't like the way the north is completely ignored by the outside world and that London is the ONLY city.

But London for sightseeing is great, I've been on the London Eye and the bridge and to the intimidating New Den. :)

... Except I never claimed that. I just don't have any pictures of the north of England because I haven't visited anywhere worth mentioning in a while.

The south-east of England is the driest part of the country, and Wimbledon falls into that category. Yes, there is some extreme weather such as the flooding, but flooding isn't JUST caused by rainfall, it's caused by low land too, which the Oxford area (and parts of the Midlands) are. And London is one of the driest cities in Europe.

It's easily avoided.

I was joking about Liverpool, so if it annoyed you don't be offended.

It's culture capital next year so it obviously has something.

Did you go to Barcelona?

One of my dad's best friends (a Catalan Spaniard) who he knew for a long time lived in Berga, one of the provinces. I went and stayed a few times. The weather was great and the family was just fantastic. I got to visit the Nou Camp and see the great brasileiro Ronaldo train! This was before I had the horrid bumpy flight that now stops me from boarding a plane. :o

Sadly my dad's friend passed away in July of multiple organ failure.

But he will still continue to visit the family whom the friendship is very special.

I've also been to Malaga(Calahonda) which was in 1994 and I was six or seven years old at the time and my dad had made plans to move away at the time. I remember Bar Bananas on the Meditteranean coast where an Irish band used to play and I used to dance to their tunes despite being a little mite :awww:

I went to two theme parks as well, first one was Tivoli in Benalmadena, and I remember vaguely (this was so long ago) the electric bull ride, getting on it and not coming off despite its best efforts.

In 2002 I went to Port Aventura, a park south of Barcelona. What I remembered so fondly about this was this photo taken when going down the flume. I looked the most freakish I had ever looked in my life, looking like a terrified boy as the flume went down and my dad decided to keep it as a truly embarrassing moment for me.

I've also been to Mallorca in Palma, stayed in the city centre for a month (December 2000) when my dad was attempting to move again. He's 51 now and wants to spend his golden years there but he's still here  I hated spending Christmas away from friends but the relaxing apartment and sunny weather made up for that as I chomped on my cereal supper gazing into the night sky watching planes take off from Palma airport on the southern peninsula opposite.

Spain = home to some of my most unforgettable memories, the one that sticks out was as a six year old, when my dad was staying behind in Spain, I was weeping and crying in his arms at the airport, before me and my mom and two year old sister went through the check in to board.

Although I like the city I really hate the weather there  It is always windy and rainy. :spit: The city is situated on islands, there are lots of rivers and canals, and the main river called Neva. Because of city location wind drifts water from Finnish Gulf into Neva. Nice to meet you Claudio  my name is Nadia ;)

so here are some pics of subway in Moscow :) but I should notice that it looks nice only on pictures :haha:
the subway is totally overcrowded especially in rush hours :help: :tape:
and all these amazing stations were built about 50 years ago. Modern stations look all the same, they are rather boring and standard

what an amazing trip you've made! :yeah: :eek: really?! Wow impressive that you looked through it

It was awesome. I think about it every day. I am already thinking about where to go next - not just Mexico, but in Europe again, I want to go back to some of the places I went, and I have so many new places I want to see! In fact, I have 3 distinct European trips I want to take that I have planned out in my head! :sobbing: I've decided as soon as I get a job, I will put a little bit of each paycheck into a special travel account, just for taking trips, and anytime my parents or anyone else ask what I want for presents, I'm going to say money for more traveling.

I knew I'd have a good time, but I didn't realize it would change my life

Deb  I think every trip changes somehow our life ;) New places, new people, new culture, new exprience  and when you are starting off you never know what and how is going to be changed :p That is just a trip magic, simple but power :)

Re  in fact Nadia is a kind of diminutive from my name, which sounds soooooo difficult for non-Russian speakers  although it is considered to be so beautiful, a bit rare nowadays and means "Hope" in Russian I hate it and prefer to be called Nadia

:secret: well as soon I finish my stupid translation work I'll show you some of my pics from Norway :aplot:

For that, I say, what's the point!
