Karlovic is a good enough player off the ground now that he should be able to get a break in two sets of tennis with Massu but it can be seen as a good sign that he got the job done in a tight match when he presumably didn't play his best. It wasn't that long ago that he never won matches without this sort of scoreline.

He took 1 hour 49 to lose 3 and 2 to Nadal last year and over five hours to lose to Sela in four in DC recently.

on serving games from massu there were 50-60 seconds between points and I doubt that there were many baseline rallies there

i didnt watch it, but i heard it was an injury time-out for Ivo (not sure though)

I think Ivo is better at breaking serve on slower surfaces actually. You wouldn't think it would help him in rallies, but maybe it's because of the service return itself.

I was following the scoreboard in the 1st set. Ivo led 3:0 with two mini-breaks, then Massu had set point at 6:5*.

For Massu nine losses in a row and it probably doesn't help that he has been close a bunch of times:

3-6 in the third to Ferrer
4-6 in the third to Darcis
Five hour loss to Sela
6-7 in the third to Lapentti
4-6 in the third to Karlovic

I'm guessing Ivo took an injury time-out as Massu was briefly a heavy favourite on betfair.
