Yes! Great tournament for Pics. Bet he's glad he decided to jump on that plane to Tokyo at the last minute. I feel a bit bad for Richard, because I really like him. He just never seemed into it. Ferrer had his number early. He's a legend.:worship:

His place in Shanghai should be just about cemented.

Gasquet seemed a little out of it but Pics was very impressive. Nice to see him continue his very good year. And even though Gasquet lost- he has done a lot these past two weeks to improve his chances at Shanghai.

I noticed with Venus yesterday as well that Tokyo has the sorriest runner up plate I have seen. It looks like this little dish that we put our keys in.

I do think it is neat that two out the three of David's titles this year are on hard.

At the risk of sounding bandwagonesque- do you think that Ferrer could be one of those players who may start playing at their best mid-20s onwards? His game will never have the layers of Feds or Richie- but it does seem to be more faceted than it was about two years ago.

Yes it is but how many of those top losses are to Federer - at least 4, I think. Just about everyone on the tour, except Nadal would have those losses. His record without Fed is still not great but it's not as horrific (But then I guess we have to take out the win over Fed too.)

The combination of David Ferrer being in the best form of his career, why did he not play this well in the past, and Richard playing his 10th match in 14 days created an expected result.

Definitely doesn't suck--the matchup is just terrible and favors the speed of David versus the high looping groundstrokes of Richard

Sounds rather like a 4th round win in the US Open.

These days only powerful baseline drivers give David Ferrer major problems which was exploited by Djokovic in US Open semi-final. Big servers like Roddick, Karlovic and Isner all lose.

I feel sorry for the fans. Last year's final was only 67 mins, and this year's 15 mins shorter. Still, Ferrer is a great guy and has been playing well, and obviously came out firing, still in dominator mode after seeing off Karlovic. Gasquet has had a really good two weeks, and I would think that the match against Berdych took a lot out of him mentally, and he didn't have enough reserves to cope with an on fire opponent in the final. He hit a wall, no shame in that. It happens.

Amazing performance from Ferrer. He dominated almost every singe point from start to finish and Gasquet was on the defense the entire time. Gasquet and his coaching staff really need to wake up and fix his moon ball forehand because against Ferrer or other top 10 players who all pretty much have very strong agressive groundies, they will pounce on his high, soft, short forehand shots, as evident in this match. I think Gasquet definitely has the potential to change his forehand because there were a few moments when he completely flattened his forehand out hit it very agressively. In fact if you watch his running forehand, it's ironically one of the best in the games.

All the British commentators for this match were so annoying especially one in the final. They all repeatedly stated that Gasquet was "stunned" by Donald Young at the US open this year. It's ok to make a mistake in reporting a wrong fact one time but to repeat something that's not correct is just bad.
