That was a craking match overall which was no better illustrated than by the match point(awesome backhand winner from Gasquet).
Well done Richie and well done to Berdych too who, apart in some points where he choked, played overall a great match.....but Richard was too good

I was especially impressed by Richard's serve.
This said,i think he'll have to play a bit better from the baseline against Ferrer.

The serve was on fire. This is so good for him because he can relax and play better when he knows he'll get some free points on his serve.

Berdman was Berdman, extremely impressive and dictating rallies a couple of points then dishing 4 Ues in a row.

So he's still playing Vienna?

If so then it will be Vienna-Madrid-Lyon-Paris then prolly Shanghai.

So... between Mumbai and Shanghai that would be 7 weeks in a row..

Berdych saved 6 match points in the final game, but Gasquet was too consistent in this one.

In the 2nd set Berdych had 0-40 on Gasquet's serve and then Richard wins the next 5 points and holds. Then Berdych was down 0-40 in the next game, gets it to 30-40. Berdych has control of the point, Gasquet hits a great defensive lob and Berdman misses the smash for the break.

High standard match with good shotmaking. Berdych missing a lot of forehands down the line and making some as well. Gasquet served very well and played at a very good level throughout and took his chances.

Just from following the scores, it seems as if both players wasted many opportunities.

Nice win. That takes Gasquet up to ninth in the race now I think.

There was a crucial part of the match where Gasquet came back from 0-40 to hold serve and broke immediately after that. Gasquet's serve was very impressive especially when serving for the match when he scored a number of free points on the deuce side.

Hard to waste chances for Gasquet, when Berdych hit clean winners and for Berdych when Gasquet hit excellent serves.

I don't think so. He didn't intend to play Tokyo but was asked to fill in because of big name withdrawals. And whether he'll play Lyon will depend on how far he goes in Madrid. :p

No, if he loses early. Otherwise it will be a classic worn-out

He doesn't need to play Vienna, he has done well enough in the MM events for the year as it is.

Impressive stat : 21 sets won in a row for Richie (since US Open 1st round). We can call it a streak. :)

And a victory today against a top10. Doesn't happen every day for Richard.

Gasquet's serve was on fire today ,I have never seem him serve so well in the past like he has been doing for the last two weeks ,And his backhand is such a treat to watch when its on.

Very high quality match but Gasquet had this match under his control ,Berdych definitely had some chances but Richard played the big points brilliantly and was mentally the stronger player.

It could be a brilliant final tommorow if Gasquet serves this well and Ferrer returns like he usually does ,Lets wait and see.

If he wins the final will he be #7 or #8?

And will that depend on whether Robredo wins Metz?

Looking at the points race reaching a final instead of semi-final in your 4/5th optional event could determine if you are 8th or 9th in the race. Gasquet still has semi-final and quarter final in his optionals which he could enhance.

I'm beginning to see the first signs of anti-Baby Fed tard activity. They're afraid that the Baby Fed will replace the Daddy Fed when Daddy Fed is done being #1. Everyone with eyes sees that all Baby Fed needs is more consistency with his forehand, get more Daddy Fed-like and he'll be awesome.

You just have to look at the players he is beating and yes both Berdych and Ferrer (potentially) are good players but winning this tournament would not be a remarkable achievement on it's own.

Just look at the people who pick on him. R=FK hates Federer. Bad Religion hates Federer. Gasquet reminds them of Fed (though nowhere near as good) so they dislike him also.

Everything in baby steps for the Baby Fed. This is the equivalent of 2002 for Fed. Next year Richie will win Wimbledon.

Not necessarily, but playing well in two consecutive weeks has not been Richard's strength so far. This fact alone gives hope for further achievements.

Exactly. Six months ago if Richard had won one tourney and played the next week, he would have lost in the first/second rd. Doesn't matter who his opponent was.
