I see how you can be unimpressed with Gasquet winning MM titles Richie but he can only beat what is put in front of him right now.

A fanatic is a fanatic. You are trying to be rational about Gasquet's chance to be a force in the top 3. But to me its simple. He's got a lovely game that I'd like to watch. Whether he wins a grand slam or not doesn't matter too much because I've got to defend my work, not his work, unless ofcourse too much of my money is riding on his success. Frankly the only reason I want him to succeed is that he gets popular enough so I don't have to wait for the second week of the GS events to watch him play on TV.

Your pretension of being the lone sane voice among a group of Gasquet Fans is so stupid. Get over yourself dude.

I totally agree. Still, it doesn't mean one can't be critical. ;)

Re: richie21, he blows hot and cold and either dishes out extreme praise or extreme criticism, neither necessarily being reasonable. He's been on a cold streak lately though. ;)

It's almost like a no win situation for Gasquet even when he wins, people will find some stupid excuse to downplay any kind of success he has big or small and even if he's been winning, it only takes one sudden loss to justify all the negative talk about him even during a winning period...according to some of you. I really do think fans like Richie21 really need to stop being a fan cuz players don't need that kind of fans.

Exactly. When he wins, it's only a small win. But if he loses, then he's overrated and he sucks.

Believe me,if he beats one of the top 3 current players(Fed,Nadal and Djoke),i'll be completely entusiastic.
When he beat Roddick in the last Wimbledon,i wasn't entusiastic because i knew that Roddick was already on decline.
It's not my fault if i have much higher expectations for him than most of the posters there.....

And I am sure its going to happen in this Madrid masters. And yeah, Roddick played like a brain dead dipshit. But he was a top 10 player nevertheless.

Yes it is YOUR fault that you have much higher expectations for Gasquet than other posters on this forum, how is that not your fault. Gasquet didn't come to your door and ask you to have such high expectations of him, all the expectation and hope on him is from his fans like you and me and the media and it's our own doing when we create these expectations. But the point is if he doesn't deliver on those expecations it's ok because those are expectations from us, not promises from him.

I agree that the pressure which is putted on him is sometimes too excessive but you have to put it into the context of french tennis: it will almost be 25 years now that the whole french tennis wait for a successor to Noah......25 fucking years!

Actually I think he's spot on when analyzing Gasquet's technical deficiency. But I think he's overly harsh on Richard's weaknesses.

Just by the way you wrote "25 fucking years" tells me that you are frustrated at the lack of big French tennis icons with major success and that Gasquet owes you and his country a place in history and some form of glory in the tennis world. You make it sound like it's not evey about Gasquet and that it's more about you and France and your expectations of him. It's quite sad that he's the victim of your frustrations and that you've put so much investment in him to the point that anything less than what Noah had achieved will be considered a failure for Gasquet and that he's playing for people like you and his country and not for himself.

Gasquet owes you nothing buddy! He should be playing for himself not for you! It's not his fault that it's been decades since France had a GS champion.

Ah, now you lost the last credibility you had with me. It is neither about Gasquet(would you get so upset abaout him, if he were from Slovenia?) nor about tennis, it is about French pride.
