Dudi simply outplayed Gonzo. It isn't like Gonzo made many unforced errors, Dudi had way more - but he also had more winners in every category, service winners, backhand winners, return of serve winners... I think Gonzo had slightly more forehand winners and that's it. Dudi played with guts, Gonzo didn't. He lost. We deserve the tie.

Seeing Andy Ram's reaction was a sight to behold, and I just hope someone would take dudi under his wing to help him with the expenses of playing in the tour, he is still young and could still go places. Otherwise it would be a terrible shame.

Feña played well, but was tired as hell at the end. 14 hours for him in this tie, not considering that he played the whole last week in Beijing. And, of course, Sela was amazing, some of his shots could easily be struggling for play of the year.

Too bad for Chile, we're going to the 2nd division along with ridiculously pathetic teams like Belarus or Brazil:devil:  :p

The Israelis have made the most of their abilities and defeated better teams in Italy and Chile on the way, so their place in the World Group is fully deserved.

Chilean tennis is in a state of crisis right now, they've lost two ties in a row that they were initially favoured to win. At least Peru are winning so the WG next year will still have two South American nations.

Very sad day for Chilean tennis fans. :awww:

I know there will be a lot of 2nd guessing now about stratedgy etc but one thing that can't be in question is the dedication of Nico and Fernando to the Chilean team. They have been the team for years and done so well. THis loss is dissapointing to say the least but it doesnt' diminish what they've done for Chile in the past.

I don't know why the Chilean tennis family didn't long ago nuture a doubles specialist team to take some of the pressure off Nico and Fena. They are expected to play 3 best of 5 matches in as many days (this one nonwithstanding) and like it or not they are not as young as they used to be.

No excuses for the loss though, on paper Chile should have been able to win this. True congrats to the Isreali team -they should be proud of what they accomplished.

Dudi played some unbelievable tennis, this was the best match of any Israeli player at least since 2001 IMO. There is no reason he won't get a decent sponsorship, at last, and get to at least the top 50 next year. He's certainly worth it.
Do you know how close he was to retirement a couple of years ago because of debts to the tennis academy in which he trained and lack of sponsorship? He doesn't have the financial background of the Peer or H.Levy families.

I like Gonzo, but towards the end he was really getting on my nerves. He was whining constantly, on almost every call! The two(!) DFs overrules on BPs, both after heavy pressure from the Chileans on the umpire, were a disgrace. Dudi was courageous to take his service game to love after his 2-0 in the fifth was suddenly turned into 1-1. After that the result was never in doubt. Justice prevailed.
