The Swedes were fucked without Söderling in this tie, but Roddick and Bryan Bros delivered when it counted and into another Davis Cup final. As bilbo would say "Expected win" and never in doubt would be appropriate. As bilbo would say "Expected win" and never in doubt would be appropriate. Agree that Söderling's presence would have made more competitive and more balanced tie. I think they would 80-20 favorites in a home final vs Russia. Loremaster 09-23-2007, 02:29 PM Ok so now bring on GRASS if Andreev doesn't fuck his match big time the cat 09-23-2007, 02:29 PM Well done to Roddick and the American Davis Cup team. :) Now they have their golden chance to recapture the Davis Cup title. Davydenko should just come for cheering not to play. Did you just say Safin was out?? Action Jackson 09-23-2007, 02:39 PM Tursunov and Safin are the only good players Russia has in indoors. Davydenko should just come for cheering not to play. Did you just say Safin was out?? Youzhny can play well on any surface and as for Safin, he is going to play again this year, so this is the one competition he gets fired up for. Jimnik 09-23-2007, 02:40 PM The weekend just got easier and easier with the withdrawels but thank goodness no-one screwed up. Had either Andy or the Bryans not finished the job, Blake would have been highly vulnerable in the 5th rubber. fmolinari2005 09-23-2007, 02:40 PM Nice result for the US team! Hopefully they can win the DC! stebs 09-23-2007, 02:41 PM Davydenko can't beat someone with stars and stripes next to their name so he is not a factor. USA really should get the job done. Even an outdoor hard court would have been fine although grass should have been the most obvious option. For a massive country with shitloads of resources they really are very limited. Johnny Groove 09-23-2007, 03:40 PM No grass courts in Florida or SoCal? edit: you are always so fast in editing your post Deb  Theres plenty down here, but that would be too smart for the fucking USTA :retard: Roddick on grass is a guaranteed 2 points, the bryans as well, so we wouldnt have to worry about blake fucking it up. Indoors, not so much. Safin is a beast indoors, and he always plays well in DC and he will be back, Youzhny is awesome as well. Kolya will be the cheerleader. Indoors is more a 50-50 shot, while grass gives us a much bigger advantage darnyelb 09-23-2007, 04:05 PM so USA vs Russia... nice. it's like i'm back in the 80s (except back then it was USSR). congrats to Roddick and our US team. If they win and hopefully they should, Andy will have the trifecta of career accomplishments - #1, a Slam, and now Davis Cup. tangerine_dream 09-23-2007, 04:07 PM http://img2.menstennisforums.com/790/excited.gif Yes, yes, YES Andy! You are the man. The closer! And Russia made it to the final too, Oh happy day http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy093.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) Listen to how quiet the American haters are, all back hiding in their dark corners. :nerner: Marek. 09-23-2007, 04:12 PM I thought that this would be our year from around February. Thank you Andy :worship: Merton 09-23-2007, 04:12 PM Congrats US, there was little doubt that Andy would finish the job once the Bryans won the doubles. gogogirl 09-23-2007, 04:26 PM Morning All, First off - congratulations to the US team. And what a great two matches from Andy. He is a great DC player. In the 2006 DC semi against Russia, Andy lost his two matches, albeit, he lost in a 17-15 final set against Dmitry, and the first one in three sets against Marat. May haps the surface will make a difference, but it is not a lock that Andy would win two against the Russians. The odds are in his favor on a faster surface, but it is not guarenteed. He has a losing record by 1 against Igor and a winning one by 1 against the others, other than Davy, whom he's never lost to. I know - I know - some would say, well James will lose his no matter what, so what's the difference? The difference is, no one knows how it will all play out until it does. James has never lost to Davy or Igor. He's tied w/Marat. He lost the only one played against Mikhail. He lost in four sets against him, but the one he won, he won 6-1, so, he might do alright. He and Dmitry have never played, so we'll have to wait and see. Anyway, it is a great deal that the US is in the final. Yippppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! "WAY TO GO - USA" "CONGRATULATIONS" "BRING BACK THE CUP" "YOU CAN DO IT" Adler 09-23-2007, 04:29 PM Make artificial grass and see Davydenko looking like a muppet Deboogle!. 09-23-2007, 05:04 PM The USTA really are shooting themselves in the foot here. :retard: When you're up against a team of indoor experts you do not choose to play indoors. Even an outdoor hard court would have been fine although grass should have been the most obvious option. For a massive country with shitloads of resources they really are very limited. Grass is our only opition to win, anything else is stupid. There aren't that many playable grass courts, especially at the end of November  When we played Chile, there were only a few sites they were considering... they could go back out to Rancho Mirage, CA - the grass courts there were great - but at the end of the day it's all about the $$$ and the sites are the sites so there's not even really much point discussing it because it won't happen lol. Is the decision irreversible even before they know who the potentiel opponent is? Doesn't make sense to me at all.not that i'm aware of. there were 4 potential sites (Winston-Salem, Portland OR, San Diego, or OK City) and they were narrowed down to two a few days ago. They knew the only team that would be playing in the US was Russia, if the final was going to be here it was going to be Russia (Germany would've been an away tie) so they knew what they were doing when they narrowed the sites down. I assume the official site and surface will be announced in a couple days but  World Beater 09-23-2007, 05:35 PM its time for the US to win DCup rocketassist 09-23-2007, 05:35 PM There aren't that many playable grass courts, especially at the end of November  When we played Chile, there were only a few sites they were considering... they could go back out to Rancho Mirage, CA - the grass courts there were great - but at the end of the day it's all about the $$$ and the sites are the sites so there's not even really much point discussing it because it won't happen lol. not that i'm aware of. there were 4 potential sites (Winston-Salem, Portland OR, San Diego, or OK City) and they were narrowed down to two a few days ago. Grass, a surface that gives Andy and James a bigger advantage over PMK and Safin, is the best chance of victory. Indoors is playing into the hands of the Russians as they have five (six if Korolev can be counted) capable indoor players. Mental midget Blake would rather play grass against grass weak players than choke against a good indoor player. shotgun 09-23-2007, 06:19 PM Easy win. Soderling might have made a difference, but I would still favor Roddick to get the job done. Agree, it made a difference but not as much as Stepanek not playing for the Czechs in the first round. Winston's Human 09-24-2007, 02:50 AM I cannot believe that the USTA is thinking about going to Portland. People in the Northwest are too polite to host a Davis Cup final. They should have kept Oklahoma City in contention. Can you imagine a stadium full of Okies and nearby Texans whooping it up against the "Russkies"?
