So, that means Germany is one win away of winning the Davis Cup, as Haas and Kohlie won't have problems in dealing with Roddick and Blake on clay...

JMG would love this.

Great for Petzschner in his DC debut to handle the pressure and give the Germans a 2-1 lead.

Youzhny will probably come in for the reverse singles and then Andreev against Kohli.

Petzschner was just amazing. He was so solid from the beginning to the end, it was crazy. :worship:
Kudos to Waske too for playing although he seemed to be in a lot of pain.

The Russian team was ridiculously bad though, they couldn't return Waske's serves although he couldn't serve at all in the 4th set (and he kept winning his service games to love or 15).

Never in doubt. Tursunov/Youzhny is totally useless combo. We could have a slim chance only if it was Andreev/Tursunov.
The tie will be over after the first reverse singles, I think. Many *thanks!* to Ukrainian-Austrian fixer!

Russia :smash:

I've never been so frustrated watching a match in my life, and that says something. So frustrating watching Misha/Dima choke returns when Waske barely could serve in the last set. Had they broken right away early in the fourth set when Waske got hurt, it would have been a different match and would have forced Germany to play a 5th set. :retard: *sigh* Davydenko better win his match tomorrow. :help:

Anyway, well done to the German team esp since one had never played DC before. They fought well, served better. Good win for them.

And the US is capable of beating Germany on clay. This hasn't been some incredible level of play.
Haas was awful, and Davydenko had several bp's to go up 52 in the 3rd.
And the German doubles team won't beat the Bryans.
The Germans are playing good enough to win this tie, but the Russians are helping them win.

I think you are being a bit to harsh on Kolya ;) He didn't get crushed, just lost in the 5th set to a great player on clay. The match could have gone either way. It's always frustrating to lose such a close match, but there's no shame for Kolya to have lost against Kohlschreiber.

It's not even the fact he lost to Kohlschreiber. It's his demeanor. The first thing Davydenko did in Moscow was crying about injury. Then it was the court "being made up for Safin". Now it's also a cold...

and i am again frustrated and confused about the rules-- how come waske could boldly stop serving in the middle of game? is it permitted? i mean, something has to be done about these ridiculous medical time-outs

having said that about waske  the other guy was real good... it's such a shame both turso and youzhny were so bad on return :o

Since 2004 Roddick has a 4-0 H2H against Safin outside clay, 3-0 against Youzhny since 2002 and I can't see a chance for this permanently injured Tursunov to beat Roddick away. Andreev would have the best chance, but he's not the same player who defeated Roddick on HC before.

Good performance of Petzschner, nice to see that a German player doesn't choke ;) At the beginning he started a bit nervous with the volleys and didn't kill a few ones he should have converted. Then since the middle of the first set he started really strong and was the better player than Waske on serve and return. And lucky for the German team that the Russians didn't return better on these weaker serves of Waske. Sometimes it's of course harder to accellerate a small ball than just using the speed of your opponent and block a return back, but they should have really done much more and played with better placement.
