US Open hands down, although I think the best single match of the year was the Wimbledon final.

For me it was Australian Open, alghough the final match was the best in Wimbledon ofcouse

Wimbledon had the best final, USO had great matches in many of the earlier rounds (of course I also remember it better since it just happened).

Wimbledon. of course I am biased. ;)

I think it depends on how people look at it. Alot of people seem to be saying Australian Open solely due to Roger Federer's superb performance there. But in terms of overall for performance of players I think the best has got to be Wimbledon.

No way it was the AO or RG. Either Wimby or the USO, I'll probably go with Wimby though because of the Henman-Moya match.

I don't think it is good if it is true that some people are basing their opinions on one or two matches. Deciding on the overall quality throughout all the rounds in the events with more weighting towards the later rounds would be a sensible way to come to a decision.

I'd say overall, all of them were let downs (for me).

Not great quality at the slams this year. Wimby was the best, mostly because of the final, but also the QFs. Also that Nadal-Soderling match which seemed to last for almost half the tournament was good entertainment.

Usually the semis provide more entertainment than the finals but this year every single grand slam SF was over in three sets.

Depends on how one interprets 'best quality tennis', I guess.

Apart from the obvious differences between HC/Clay/Grass, there's also the psychological element, in terms of 'dramatics' etc.

As for the past year, no question for me - the Wimbly 2007 final. Great match, and yes, the dramatic elements were there as well - in abundance I might say.

AO had the best quality of blowouts with Federer and Gonzo putting in superb performances and totally dismantling their opponents. Particularly Gonzo with his stunning annihilations of Hewitt, Blake, Nadal, and Haas in succession. Didn't have any great matches though.

RG seemed pretty dull this year with no memorable matches.

Wimbledon had too much rain as always.

US had some great matches early but from the QFs on everything was a rout.

So none of the slams were very memorable thus it is hard to pick a best. I'd go with AO because of how great Fed played against Roddick and Gonzo from the 3rd round on.

wimby hands down!!!

super great final, rafa's constant success in proving that he can win on the surface against players who were supposed to beat him there, fed's 5th straight in front of borg, great storylines in there!

1. Wimbledon - Every round except the semifinals had great matches
2. USO - Earlier rounds up until the QFs were pretty good
3. AO - Some great blow outs but no classic five setters
4. RG - Can't remember any match there that I'd watch again

Any grand slam that Federer wins. Any grand slam Nadal wins is boring.

Time for some real claycourters to show up.

I'll go with AO

2 of the most brilliant individual performances you'll ever see in each of the Semifinals, and then Roger keeps it going in the final

I was blown away by those semi finals....

U.S Open, probably the most consistently enjoyable tournament but not so much in the latter stages of the tournament.

Too much rain at Wimbledon. There were some good matches, but hard to judge the tournament as a whole when there was hardly anything to watch for three or more days. Still I'd rate it second.

I found the Australian Open disappointing as a whole. And the French Open was just awful especially in hindsight, I hope the quality of tennis is better next year.

I voted Wimbledon. Though it was annoying as all hell, it had me deprived of sleep for 2 weeks because the matches were so good, especially the final. 2nd would be the Australian Open. US Open for me wasn't all that spectacular, and I didn't see any matches from RG due to crappy Australian coverage.

Except for the final most of Wimbledon was a farce. Djokovic had to play 15 hours in three days, madness.

the only HQ match in wimbly was its final and nothing more...

Yeah I agree...

Without that appearance by JesusFed, the AO would have been average.

So I go with Wimbledon...all the rain really brought out some stellar performances and truly extraordinary matches...

AO hands down:

All Gonzo's matches from R16
Fed's mauling of Roddick
Nadal-Murray 5 setter

Best final: Wimbly for the drama.

This year Wimbledon:
Final: Federer vs Nadal 5 sets
Quarter finals: Roddick vs. Gasquet and Djokovic vs. Baghdatis 5 sets

However, in the decade feel Australian Open has has best matches.

I would hope that isn't the case since every match from the QFs on was won in straight sets.

1. Wimbledon: Best matches overall, and the epic final.
2. AO: For the Nadal-Murray clash, and the Federer-Roddick clash.
3. FO: For Nadal's amazing 3-peat!;)

If you talk about entertainment its easy to say Wimbledon was surely the best...But talking about QUALITY surely by far the AO wins this competition. Because of the wind etc. Wimby was way low quality except for the final (it made some intense matches but that doesnt say anything about the quality)...

RG and USO were just utterly boring.

Ferrer v Nadal, Moya v Kohlschreiber, Stepanek v Djokovic were all superb.

I didn't see much of the other GS, but the two SF of the Au Open were great. Both Federer and Gonzalez simply erased their opponents

AO had the best quality tennis, mainly from the performances of Federer and Gonzalez playing their absolute best.

I mainly saw the latter rounds of RG and US Open, but the quality didnt seem that great in those. The top players were far from their best in the later rounds.

Wimbledon had exciting 5 set matches but in terms of quality of tennis although it was good it wasnt better than AO.
