I haven't seen Guga in a very long time so not to sure the level that he is at but Federer will need to serve well (far better then today), remain patient and come to the net to finish of some loopy Guga shots that he sometimes hits.

GO ROGER

why not?
if Federer won the FO it would get help get rid of some of the "us and them" mentality between fast court players and clay courters. Perhaps someone like Coria will think that if Federer is challenging for the big clay titles then he needs to improve his grass game or Roddick will think that perhaps he needs to put a little more effort into the clay season and not treat it as a joke

I wish the guga fans wouldn't be assholes like some of the rowdy rude ones in the crowd at his matches. They don't want to piss Roger off for sure. I feel terrible that Guga's career was ruined by his hip injury, but show some respect. This will be a huge match for both men and I hope the person that does win it wins the event.

Marrahorra
05-27-2004, 04:46 PM
Guga can't win seven matches in a row anymore... sadly. If he had a higher first serve percentage, maybe, but he just isn't consistent enough. The guy is great for the sport, but his best days are past him for years now. His technique was what made him formidable, and his fighting spirit near unbeatable on clay... However that technique led to the hip injury... At least he is flexible enough to make a half-decent comeback, unlike Magnus Norman or Harel Levy.

I'd be happy to see Kuerten win so long as he made a run to the semis or final, but overall I'd rather Roger won the tournament and officially become a tennis God -RG being the missing link in my opinion to his claims to being one already.

However, I think we must give some credit to Kuerten, who is a great champ.

I would really want Roger to win, but I think both men have good chances to win this match. But just like a lot of his matches, it depends on how good Roger plays tomorrow. I would be thrilled to see Roger win this title, but in order to do that he must win this match.

My prediction will probably be Roger in 4.

They've shown all of Roger's matches so far and even had him on for an interview after both as well. They also did a very nice pre-taped feature on him. Roger has been on ESPN just as much as Andy and Andre were. I think they'll show at least part of his match.

ESPN has been good to Rogi, but it would be a shame if anything less than the whole match is not shown. I do doubt it, from those times it looks like they won't have enough hours to cover Roger's full match plus Jenn and Venus and Serena. God Forbid they only do highlights of the ladies. Guga has had his time in the sun at Roland Garros. If Federer wins RG then he, in my opinion, will go into the US Open holding all 3 Grand Slams (he's a lock at Wimbledon, to me). That would be great for tennis, it would really add appeal to the men's game in the United States.

At the end of coverage today, ESPN scrolled across the bottom that their coverage would "feature Capriati and Federer" - obviously it will depend on the length of Jen's match, but my guess is that both will be edited. Like I said, they've shown both of Roger's matches thusfar and they were nothing too exciting so if this match is at all any good I'm sure they will show some of it. But I think getting to see it in full is an unrealistic wish.

NBC has gone all women before with McEnroe doing the commentary, so I highly doubt that they will show this match.

Well, since Roger is not American, anybody knows how I can get Brazil or Swiss citizenship?

ESPN said again last night on the highlights show that they would be showing JCap and Guga at their 3pm slot this afternoon.

with this win...

1) rogi is not god
2) guga is still one of the clay contenders
3) rogi will not win the 4 slams this year
4) moya/coria-guga final is possible

;)

Federer is gonna pummel Guga into the dust i'm afraid. Guga has little to hurt him these days cos the poor man is always in pain.

The "little" was enough, I'm afraid....

criticising peoples predictions after a match is pretty pathetic especially considering this was a upset, where was your prediction that guga will win?

Check out the paltry votes that Guga got. That's where my vote is, ok....

yet your comments were "I would like to see Guga pull it off.... " - full of confidence there. I just don't think your in a position to be critical of those that predicted Federer would win.

Well, he did. The comments about guga being old were a little uncalled for, then wasn't it?

Guga is pretty "old" in tennis terms, still not 100% physically and pretty far from his peak despite the victory. Besides BillaBong is one of the biggest guga fans on this board. Dont worry forget it.

I didn't think that Guga would win, although I didn't write about that in here. He surprised me. It's not because I don't respect him as a great champion, it's because he's been so injured and out of form lately. He's been a shadow of his former self... his former self I'd have been quite confident in ;) I imagine that is why so few people believed he could pull off the upset today. I don't think it was so ridiculous to think that.

Anyways, good for him for turning things around so well here. When he was almost going out in the first round on court three to Almagro, even though I was rooting for the other guy, the senario made me feel a little sad. Glad it didn't happen!
