The main points of the article are that the Toad will be ready to play in the Davis Cup.

- He saw a specialist in Italy as a safety measure and was able to train without pain in Stockholm.

- Pim Pim is also a possibility, along with Tomas Johansson, Jonas Björkman, US Open winner Simon Aspelin and the lefty Robert Lindstedt to be selected, it will become clearer closer to the event.

- The surface really suits us and gives a low bounce, says Nystrom.

Gustfasson and Apell played Edberg/Larsson is a gimmick/stunt match on the roof of the Scandinavium.

Sorry - I've completely missed it in recent weeks. What's his injury?

He had a left wrist problem, he suffered while leading against Safin in Montreal.

I see .. I saw that match in Montreal, but completely forgot to investigate afterwards what the actual injury was .. Soderling was killing Safin early on.

Yes, he was giving him a good beatdown in the match.

Thing is this match really won't be about tennis, cause it will be an ice rank, so mainly about serve.

I do love this man. I like guys with character. Soderling, Davydenko, Berdych to some extent, etc. Guys with opinions - questionable hair maybe (because they don't give a crap about it), dry sense of humour. They don't mind offending other people (mostly the fans who are only cheering for handsome hunks who are "nice" and inoffensive).

We don't have enough of this in tennis. I miss the Wilander days.

I don't know why you brought up that guy. All I really know is that he was an ass to an umpire once. I don't condone this.

I mean I might not necessarily like these guys, but I have more respect for them in the way, they are what they are and don't try and project a manufactured image, so it's a take it or leave it attitude.

Toad has had a good 2007, though he is capable of some great mental breakdowns, but at home in Davis Cup he is hard to beat and loves a roof.

Lindstedt is not a lefty. But a great double player.

I really wonder what double team Sweden will choose. The logical choice would be Bjorkman/Aspelin, right? But they both prefer to return from the backhand side, and haven't played great together recent matches... I would still root for them to play.

I highly doubt Pim-Pim will be ready to play, though.

Still, Go Sweden! :bounce:

I do really hope that they actully let Pim Pim play on day one instead of ToJo i do really think that he would have a greater chance against Roddick then Johansson even without match practice.

The journo said that, not me as I don't write for GP and Lindstedt looks like Peter Stormare to me.

Pim Pim is a better option than ToJo, especially on this ice rink passing off as a tennis surface.

Björki

surprising news. A swedish friend just told me it's only 50-50 that Robin can play. His trainer told Swedish TV (today?).

gam_jonte
09-10-2007, 09:34 PM
Yep, that's right Björki, he's not feeling well, and he can't see a way it's going to get better, they'll only hope for some miracle, otherwise it'll be Thomas and/or Björkman/Pim Pim in the other singles matches..

marcRD

Our only chanse is Söderling winning his 2 matches and winning the doubles too. Roddick will be hard to beat, please dont play Tojo against Roddick as it would be suicide. Björkman could maybe beat Blake but not Roddick.

I am not. I just want the Swedes to win the Davis Cup and they can't do it without Söderling pure and simple.

Action Jackson

Söderling at the moment hasn't been named in the squad, but they have Thursday to change it.

Team is Pim Pim, T.Johansson, Björkman and Aspelin for now.

gam_jonte
09-11-2007, 01:52 PM
The swedish DC team that will face the US will consist of Jonas Björkman, Thomas Johansson, Simon Aspelin and Joachim Johansson. This due to Söderlings injury that for now hasn't gotten any better although they have a door open until the last minute if he will get better in the coming week.
This is both great news because i really hoped they'd pick Pim Pim but i'd liked to see Söderling aswell, but this means that it will be a completly diffrent setup during the first day, With Pim Pim vs Roddick and ToJo against Blake, this can get really intresting since i belive ToJo stands a greater chance against Blake then he does against Roddick and it'll be great to see Pim Pim back in action no matter the end result.

Rubbish team - 5-0 or 4-1 USA

We suck, we should just retire so we dont have to feel ashamed. I wonder if we will win 1 single set at all, specialy in the singles.
50 year old Björkman is our greatest chanse, he could upset Blake and maybe get a set in a tiebreak.

Bjorkman on a surface with a low bounce is a threat. :) :)

I'm sorry about Soderling, but I hope Pim Pim has a chance to play and does well. This is sort of a win/win tie for me. I can be happy about either side winning. Problem is that I always cheer for the Bryans and Blake to lose. That makes it hard to cheer for the USA.

gam_jonte

I really don't think Björkman is going to play any singles, it'll be ToJo and Pim Pim, and there still is a chance Söderling might be back beacuse his laser treatment in Italy is going to kick in during the coming week so you never know.

According to daviscup.com, he has been nominated to the team.

Ive also read that Soderling's injury is a bit disconcerning, but he is there, and they have until Thursday to make the change.

But if hes ready now, I'd LOVE to see him back and injury free. I loved watching him play, and hes been so unlucky with injuries

And also, im not afraid to admit it, even as a guy, he wasnt that bad on the eyes :p
