Karlovic skipping DC vs. Great Britain

In some respect I understand his decision because he was treated like shit for years, but come on ugh. He has a great chance to represent his country in a crucial tie and he bails yet again. And he didn't even have the balls to tell our tennis association or the captain in person - he sent an sms :o
Looks like the croatian team will be ljubo, marin, karanusic (just won a 50K), and zovko (also just won a challenger in doubles).

But calm the fuck down you two bro's.
Ivo has his reasons. They really treated him like utter shit for years, and now when he's a top 30 player they are calling him.
Although I don't agree with him,he should play
Anyway,

I can't imagine Ivan and Cilic on grass in Wimby court 1 :haha: :tape: :haha:

Mercenary Karlovic strikes again. Last year he left Croatia in a very bad situation when he pulled out of the tie against Argentina, forcing a 17-year-old Cilic to be the second singles player.

Ivo has his reasons. They really treated him like utter shit for years, and now when he's a top 30 player they are calling him.

You mean they should have called him when he was ranked in the lower end of the top 100 while both Ljubicic and Ancic were in the top 10?

Karlovic has every right to refuse but I'm surprised the DC captain wasn't able to be a bit more persuasive. After all Ancic will miss this tie and then Ljubicic retires from DC so from now on he could be getting the same money as one of the top 2 players.

I'm not complaining - it does GB's chances no harm - but I am surprised they couldn't talk him into it with a big charm offensive.

Ancic was in top 10 in 2005 and 2006, what were they suppose to do, play the 80's ranked Karlovic. in 2005 they were winning and you dont want to make changes when you're winning

Didn't Ivo want the money to be divided equally between all players? I don't see what's wrong with that. In all team sports the prizes are the same for all players for accomplishing something, I don't see why the Croats couldn't do the same here. Does he have a point with skipping DC ties I don't know, but I think he has a valid point seeking equal money division.
Also as far as I know he never really had much support from the tennis federation, so he doesn't really owe them anything.

Players get paid for each tie. Karlovic wanted the same money as Ancic and Ivan when he didnt even play. You have a point in the bonus money for winning DC but thats not really the issue here as Ivo wanted the same money for each tie. Its like a player who doesnt see the field at all wanting the same salary as the team's highest scoring player using soccer as an example.

For doubles ok, but it's true Ivan was the one winning singles matches, Mario only when it didn't matter.
I understand Ivo, but i'm sad because i was hoping he will play this time.
Cilic already defeated Henman on grass, and Ljubo is not in his best form but still better than Tim's.
We can hope Ljubo or Marin can beat Murray, but it's not likely at all.
and doubles are probably already lost.
I can and will hope that we can beat them though.

Well here you are wrong, that is of course true on club level, but on the national team level all the bonus money and any money in general is equally divided amongst all team members and the DC is a national team contest.

Also I've read over the summer that the heads of the tennis federation were thinking about accepting Ivo's proposal, but the team captain Prpić wanted none of it.

What's "short time" for you?
Probably in a few years but not very soon like after 1, 2 years.

And also i saw you're saying Karlovic is all serve; I like both Ivan and Ivo, but as you like just Ivan, you can look at their head2head. The only time they've met Karlovic defeated Ivan in 3 sets winning one 6-1. How's it possible to break serve of a player who also has a very good serve twice in one set if all you've got is big serve?

Yes it's usually like that in national teams! But these rules were there even before Karlovic became a better player and now he refuses to play!
All players were once third or forth ranked in the team and they didn't have any problems with that!
I'm not sure if I completley agree with this rule, but it sounds logical, whoever plays gets more money!

Prpic is awful captain, for both Fc and DC team, he is too soft!
They sure didn't try enough to get Karlovic in the team!
