Why did Monfils have to qualify in Bucharest?

am i missing something here? apparently monfils had to qualify to get through to the main draw in bucharest (beat martin in final round). i always confuse the race and the entry ranking when it comes to acceptances at tournaments, but he's 46th and 48th in those rankings. and even if the cut (date of seeding etc.) was like some months ago, he just couldn't have been that low ranked that time, could he? can someone explain that to me? guys like devilder, roitman and luczak got in directly...

sorry to bother you but that just stunned me. :wavey:

He didn't enter by the deadline so didn't appear in the entry list and wasn't awarded a wildcard, although he probably requested for one.

Simple

He didn't enter on time and he requested a WC, the organisers said no and he went through qualies.

so that's the normal procedure if you wanna take part and you're late and not a celeb-player? interesting. i didn't know that, thanks.

yeah, my interest in tennis always peaks at masters and slams. i don't follow the rest much. i do check who reaches the finals and wins tournaments and stuff but i guess those little things pass me. ;)

Usualy the organizers keep one WC for a top player. They should give it to Gael!!!

They gave it to Santoro instead and not a bad choice, plus Monfils needs the matches.

Something similar hapenned to Robredo in Estoril this year, but he got the WC.
