Ditto, Blaze (and you're not a Federer fan and I am, so that's a much greater comment from you).

I think one can see that Federer has passed his career apex, which was probably his 41-match winning streak from last year to the beginning of this. He's only going to lose more matches per year and win fewer titles per year from now on, but obviously the Slams will be harder to prise from his grasp. The challengers are there though, that should be obvious to anyone, and they're both young enough to be major threats to him for the rest of his career.

Why being so devoted to a particular player? It's about TENNIS goddamit! A beautiful game which requires both stamina, velocity and accuracy, and none of these things is the most important. Just sit, watch beatiful game, clash of tactics and strategies and ENJOY :)

By definition, I guess you are right. It must be an American slang term, but I meant it more as the fact that its pretty sad that people on here have to make stupid threads like these and that maybe they shouldn't be spending so much time devoted to tennis if it really makes them feel that every non-Fed fan is going to depressed for the next few years.

I was going to criticise this, but there's a great deal of truth in it, certainly in my case. But here's the thing - I was a tennis fan before Federer became dominant, I'm going to be one long afterwards as well, and I don't think I'll have any problem finding new favourites. Finding ones who win as consistently as him could be a bit of a stretch, I'll admit.... but I'm not going to give up on them just because they don't match his standards.

Any evidence to back up this claim? Federer doesn't seem to regret his mistake too much, if his post-match speech at the TMC last year was any indication.

Who is the "OUR" that you speak for? That is so stupid.

Also if you read my original post, I make it CLEAR that I am not referring to your entire life but to your tennis and entertainment life. I suggest you read posts carefully before responding to them.

Finally, just because I am a fan of Federer and other players does not mean that I am not also a fan of tennis. It is because I am a fan of the sport that I loved it before Federer came on the scene and will love it long after he is gone. But some Federer haters seem so bitter when he loses that I thought that I would start a thread acknowledging their chronic pain.

In the usual MTF fashion we will have a complete reversal in psychology soon enough. Roger was finished and a shadow of his former self at the time of the French Open and now he's God almighty again.

Soon enough Roger will not make a major final for the first time in 2 + years and, just as expected, we will all deal with an onrush of "Roger is finished" rhetoric.

This is all too familiar. The two extremes of stupidity. Keep it up - I've got my popcorn ready.

Oh, he'll dump her like a rented mule the minute he retires and has nothing to do but sit at home looking at her each living, breathing minute of his life. Right now she is his mom - she is wiping his ass left and right; cooking him meals and taking care of his daily schedule. It's a perfect arrangement as long as he is busy doing something.

Got it. New here so don't know the posters yet. :) Fed by all accounts is a genuine and nice guy off the court. So why the hate for him?

Is he too dominant? Well, so was Jordan and now Tiger. But time passes and there will be another guy to join the ranks of the greats. It is the sports cycle and people should just appreciate his talent and personality because in a few years he will probably retire or start fade like all greats. So enjoy while it lasts because this guy will be among the very top ALL TIME for hundreds of years in this great sport. At the same time you can root for others too. I like Rafa and now Djoko's people personality.

Good to be in the minority isn't it. Better watch it you might be accused of hating Federer.

You're being simplistic -- this is not just about merely loving or hating Federer. My point is that if you absolutely despise him, then this era in tennis must be a difficult one for you. For people who are fans of tennis regardless of who is dominant, then perhaps this is irrelevant. But for those whose enjoyment of of the sport is intrinsically tied to a particular player's success, then life must truly suck. I could pick any era of tennis and make the same damn point. I just happen to be alive in Federer's.

I made the same point to friends during the Williams' era. I said, life must suck if you're not a William fan because back then they were beating up on everybody. If you loved them (or just tennis regardless of who is playing it), then life was sweet. But if you absolutely despised them, life may have sucked for a while there.

And in response to a different post, I don't see why I'm being accused of being a glory hunter. When did being a fan become something poisonous?

If you loved them (or just tennis regardless of who is playing it), then life was sweet. But if you absolutely despised them, life may have sucked for a while there.

And in response to a different post, I don't see why I'm being accused of being a glory hunter. When did being a fan become something poisonous?

I am not being simplistic at all. It goes back to the basic point does domination suck? It depends on who is doing the dominating.

Basically you are rubbing people's noses in the dirt with the fact that they aren't fans of Federer, therefore their lives must suck or they are miserable.

If people are stupid enough to live through results of tennis players, then that's their problem for being feeble minded.

There are people who appreciate the great tennis Federer plays, but don't need fanboys/girls and gloryhunters constantly reminding them of how great he is.

It smacks of "my dad is richer than your dad and I am richer than you".

I dont see it as a problem, if you ike Federer than thats great you get to watch him break all these records and play some great tennis and if you dont like him then you just watch matches without him and support Nadal and others no problem at all

I can see why you feel this way but this is not what I meant at all. I understand that you think that this is just gloating, and in part it probably is. But that's not the total picture and it's not my main point. The more important point that you choose to ignore is my comment that in any era of tennis, if you do not like the dominant player, then life must suck. Let's use my parents for example. My father thinks that Sampras is the greatest player ever. My mother couldn't stand him. She said he was a robot and she prefered Agassi. For her, that entire era sucked while for my father Sampras' domination was great and he thoroughly enjoyed watching tennis. My mother practically stopped watching because she experienced no enjoyment whatever. That is my main point. Enjoying tennis (or yur tennis life) is so much easier when you are a fan of the dominant players. It sucks when you're not.

The OP's conclusion in the initial post is valid only if it's taken for granted that anyone must EITHER be madly in love with Federer OR horrendously despise him.

However, I think I have a lot of soulmates who don't give particular shit about him either way. He IS an excellent player, but not a figure which would fulfill a screaming emptiness in one's life (since such emptiness in the majority of cases simply doesn't exist - those "Federer is GOD!" things are comical, for the most part). On the other hand, he's got talent and luck, and didn't kill or rob anyone to get where he's at, so no reason to despise him, or to envy him, or whatever - basically he deserved and worked for everything life's given him.

The way I feel about Federer is: a respectable obstacle the other good players have to get over in order to prove themselves. Nothing less, nothing more.

I didn't ignore it, cause I hated Connors and didn't like McEnroe. Sampras and Agassi weren't much better, but I survived that and still enjoy the game and life wasn't any better or worse.

I don't live my life through players results, that is just stupid and I have explained why already.

I don't think what you're saying is necessarily true for most people. I am not a fan of Federer at all really, i never root for him in matches or anything, but nevertheless when he plays a match of high standard (which he so often does), i will watch rapt. I don't need to be a fan of him to see that he, or any other dominating player, is supremely talented.

Just because my favourite players aren't at the top of the rankings, i still enjoy tennis and i believe that's true of all non-federer fans here. Otherwise i seriously doubt they would spend time on a forum for a sport they can't abide because their favourite isn't atop the rankings

I never have supported dominating teams/players, but that doesn't mean to say this sucks. I just appreciate it when they win, and when they don't? Meh, there's always next week. No suckage, i'm afraid.

Oic. Never heard the term b4, but it sounds similar to fair-weather fans. I'm a huuuge fan of Fed, simply because I never thought that kind of sublime, out-of-this-world, jaw-dropping tennis is possible. Although I know that GM is a place not to taken seriously I'm not a person who wants to rub the results of my favourite player into the faces of other people or make fun of the players who aren't in the position as Roger.
I can understand to a certain degree that people who don't like Roger are bored of his success, mainly because they hope for good results for their favourite players and at the moment Roger is the player who denies this.
I can't understand disrespectful comments that he got lucky and stuff like this as I think it isn't to much to ask for to respect his achievements, whether you like him or not. He has worked hard for his success and was blessed with a once in a lifetime talent.

Maybe some people who are longing for new times in tennis will look back one day to these days and recognize then how incredible it was what Roger is doing right now.

I know. Records are there to be broken. But whatever happens: Nobody is able to take away the achievements of Laver, Emerson, Borg, Sampras and Federer. All have done incredible things in their generation. Therefore I don't like all this discussion about GOAT. I think you can't compare the achievements of players from different generations. You can be the best player of the era you have played in, using the material you got, but it is not fair to compare your achievements with the results from previous players.

I just don't see someone coming along and winning more consecutive Wimbledons, US Opens, Australian Opens. Federer's slam final streak might reach 13-15, nobody will come close. People make the mistake of saying well Fed broke Sampras' records, so someone else will break Fed's. But how many dominance records did Sampras have really? He never won 3 slams in a year. He never made more then 3 slam finals in a row(only once 1993-1994). Only 2 Wimby/USO doubles(non consecutive). Sampras just was not that dominant.

There was a witch hunt on MTF and the fedtards were trying to get me banned.

Some moderaters fell for it (closet Fedtards themselves) so I had to portray weakness and make up a white lie to pretend I will become weak and harmless.

To beat the devil some lies must be told. I will be the one to cure the disease of Fedtardism.

I'm a huge Federer fan, as much for the way he conducts himself as for his tennis, but I don't share your optimism. Unfortunately, and I hope I'm wrong, I think his chase for history will be in vain. The only way I can see him winning another major is if he gets lucky in the draw. I think he'll remain stuck on 12.
