Disgusting amount of luck

I will readily congratulate Roger for another slam title and wish all the best for my favorite Novak in the future, BUT:

The amount of SHEER LUCK Roger has/had in this match is absolutely disgusting.

(No, I'm not going over to Spartatards/Roger dissers/the like, and yes, I can see some karmic things after Montreal here, but nevertheless.)

This is the most bizzare match I've watched in a while. Novak is creating himself all the chances, then losing it when it matters. This match really was Djokovic's to lose, and he's doing it in spectacular style. First GS final though, and he's putting up one hell of a fight.

RESPECT for the Fed, so sure it was an ace, and it was millimetres in. I salute you!

Also respect to all those line judges who are getting those millimeter calls right.

So its all luck you say?

Its not the fact he kept the ball in play during long rallies, hit aces, came to net, slowed the play down about 9 times.

OH so its not that its just "sheer" luck

How or what is luck tell me how roger did not earn those points. HE simply beat novak on the points.

Novak was never in position to take the points he did not have open courts an dmissed the shots like roger did when he was broken - it doesnt matter roger will win.

Roger is not even at his best - anyone who watches tennis would know that. He normally hits around 50 winners per match atm hes below thirty.

Go Roger:worship:

I agree with you. Federer is not winning because of luck. He is too good for that. However I think the reason why his winner count is so "low" is due to his opponent.

He is not slicing down to novak's backhand. This is the reaosn he has become good his slice its rated as his best shot.

He needs a coach again to bring it back. Look at him, he is not even trying to force break points hes just floating along

Great post. And for those who bitch about the "luck", I present the match stats:

Federer(SUI) Djokovic(SRB)

1st Serve % 64 of 106 = 60 % 62 of 116 = 53 %

Aces 11 5

Double Faults 4 7

Unforced Errors 34 40

Winning % on 1st Serve 50 of 64 = 78 % 44 of 62 = 71 %

Winning % on 2nd Serve 27 of 42 = 64 % 30 of 54 = 56 %

Winners (Including Service) 42 32

Receiving Points Won 42 of 118 = 36 % 29 of 106 = 27 %

Break Point Conversions 3 of 5 = 60 % 2 of 9 = 22 %

Net Approaches 19 of 24 = 79 % 17 of 29 = 59 %

Total Points Won 119 103

Fastest Serve 129 MPH 128 MPH

Average 1st Serve Speed 119 MPH 121 MPH

Average 2nd Serve Speed 93 MPH 96 MPH

Fed was beter in almost every aspect of the game, now explain to me how's that luck.

Yes, when Djoko or Nadal wins these kind of matches it's because of 'mental toughness' but when Fed does it's because of 'luck'. The :retard: emoticon cannot be used enough for these kinds of threads.

Disgusting ammount of luck? I'm new here and I'm shocked with your comments. Federer played below par, but he was still better! Why can't you guys accept it? Just look at the statistics: better first serve, more aces, more points on 1st serve, more points on 2nd serve, more winners, more receiving points won, less errors...
What more do you need to admit that better player won?!? Some of you are acting like kids on the playground...

Finally, respect to Nole. He played great tournament, and I'm sure he'll be in many more big finals. But today he lost to a better player.

So, going by this kind of reasoning should we have expected a triple-bagel if Roger was playing at his expected level?

Djokovic played like a very talented first-time grand slam finalist. He was at times good and at times wildly incompetent. This is to be expected.

Djokovic is a just an advanced version of Davydenko. Davydenko with _some_ serve. I-can-outplay-but-I-cannot-beat-Roger. The match between the two could have been fascinating.

Roger will own them for as long as he wishes to. Nadal is the only real resistance.

Maybe Novak will get lucky then! ;)

If Roger is that lucky, why is he busting his ass on a tennis court?! Might as well enjoy that luck, guessing the lottery numbers. That would be an easier way to live through luck.

No. In words you might understand: Djoko just fulfilled his Spartan destiny. Got slayed by a bigger and better army.

But, dont worry. Djoko isnt a spartan. He will win a hard court GS title eventually, and will become number one.

you make your own luck in sport...sport isn't just about talent (which federer proved over the years he has in abundance) its also about nerve, Borg had it Sampras had it...Novak didn't (today), I'm sure he'll learn from yesterday's match but give credit were credit is due...and why isn't anyone talking about the third set? or the tiebreaks? was federer lucky there?

Novak fans shouldn't go down the route of other fans (ahem no names mentioned) and learn to lose gracefully like their player!

dragons112

There isnt even such thing as luck. Luck is a term used for likelyhood of chance. For example todays final:

Djoko created chances and he had greater chances to win the first set however, he got beaten by a unprobable margin buy better tennis when the chances or odds were against roger. Because he battled his way out of a near loss the remote chances that people thought roger did not have, he in fact had. And this beats the odds therefore: LUCK

Then somehow luck comes it. "Luck" can also associate with the term excuse or very sore loser :d

It's not luck, Nole was choking hard, seriously. It was his first Grandslam Final ever, he was nervous when he shouldnt be, at really important points, he just couldnt stand the pressure I think. I think now Nole has experienced a Grand Slam final, he will do so much better next time, he will not choke that hard again, he could have won this much, should have won this match IMO. Federer is just such a mentally and technicly(sp?) strong and amazing player, Federer is really strong when he has to be, that's what seperates him from others.
