No surprise...

She was ill against Kapros - someone barely established at that stage - 2 years ago and lost badly then.

Clijsters was out already... so we were always spared another all Belgian final.

And no all-sistas final either - same half of the draw.

Fingers crossed a Russian finally makes the final of a Grand Slam in women's singles

just read her interview... she was asked who the favourite is now,,,

"I don't care about this now"

just not a good sport... she should be happy she has three grand slams... very lucky in two semi-finals last year against serena and against capriati.

she never was a particularly good sport and that interview proves it. Get over it Justine! You will have to soon cos the Williams sisters will bump you off number 1 soon and good ridance! She was never gonna to win anyway - how could she possibly think she could. It's the same as believing Juanqui will win. He probably won't either and he certainly doesn't expect to!

It's not about being a good sports it's about being honest.Would you honestly care if you were the world # 1 and defending champ and just lost in the second round to the world # 80? She didn't care and said the truth in her interview that she didn't care

Poor Justine. She never would have lost to Garbin if she was fit, but she obviously isn't. :(

no problem for Justine, she had so many great tournaments this year, she cracked the 1 million $ mark for prize money of the year so early like no female player before and she got unlucky with the injuries and illness (mononucleosis) since the beginning of April.

At least she did play although she did herself no favor. But it was clear from the beginning that nobody can win this tournament without proper preparation.

Justine was not fit enough, she tried but she was upset then in the 2nd round.

Good recovery, Justine!

Allezzzz Amélie maintenant! :)
(please, everybody may win, but not the sistas  )

Ditto.

When will JDo start winning again Naldo? Poor girl has more emotional problems than a woman with PMS.

Finally Justine loses. It's about time she got punished for it playing poorly in the earlier rounds. Too often she escapes from being burned. Good effort though, hope she recovers asap. Congrats to her opponent. :)

Not only is this a Men's Tennis Forum, it is also a MTF with a special forum for the WTA ;) Not that I mind that this is posted here.. I am much too pleased with Tathiana's win!

I had never seen Garbin play before and I was really pleased with the attacking game she displayed today. If she plays like that on grass courts too, she might have a new fan :) I liked her looks too.. classy beauty I'd call it. I hope she wins Zheng too.

Some incident two years ago doesn't represent anything now, I think.

Must say I am a bit disappointed too. She played much better against Sandrine and I am a fan of Sandrine, so I wanted her to go through.

I feel the same away about Serena... :)

Anyways, can we piss off with the wta thread in here? They close them the second they go up at wtaworld, which is so inanely stupid that I don't even know where to begin... but we might as well be stupid as fuck at both boards.

I'm now very upset! First, Andre and now Justine!!! The ones that are annoying or aren't spectacular tennis are the ones who are still in it!!!
I do give her tonnes of credit for defending her title and it's better than losing in the 1st round. She'll come back in the grass court season!!

Glad she did loss today...that will open up the upper half of the draw......
Really hoping for a Russian to make it to the semifinal.

It was bound to happen considering her current form and fitness level post-mono. If Garbin didn't do it, Petrova or Mauresmo or Venus or Serena would have been prepared to rip her apart later in the draw.

TRUE, she'd be a hypocrite if she said she cared, much less be interested, in who's gonna win! i think it was a stupid question to ask right after her loss, players are still humans you know

by the way, im NO henin fan, but i understand why she answered that way

I think its okay to post here since it was a major upset, the worst, in fact, for a champ in FO history.

Like Henin's game, don't much like her attitude, but hey, attitude resembles Graf and Navratilova, so whatever.

Honestly, I was quite "happy" when I heard that Justine lost because it's so boring when she always reaches the final (and usually meets Clijsters there) but I feel the same about the Williams Sistas. We need a new Grand Slam winner! So I hope Amélie can make it to the final :)

I like Justine cuz what she doesn't care, she will show it...No need to be a hypocrite when you can just be honest

Well i used to like her... but she just has broken down my patience with her gamesmanship over the last year and a bit.

C'mon... she knew she was going to struggle... no need to mope about it - at least she played a couple of matches, unlike her compratriat Clijsters.

Honesty is one thing, blunt disrespect another... There is brave honesty, and there is shameless honesty.

Henin isn't a good sport, and she makes a boring person for interviews. Davenport is much better at interviews... she may sugarcoat stuff, but she doesn't come across as a hypocrite. Same for Rafter when he was around.

Justine has no real glamour or charisma... I'm glad the Williams sisters are back... The young Russians are also much more fun and involving.

Another poster that thinks Justine has boring interviews :)
I'm pretty sure you didn't read the interview that ws posted up at wtaworld.com...But you don't have expect a spectacular interview after a loss like this.

look... she has an interesting life story and all..

but her attitude on court... her serious look 99% of the time... she never jokes around ever... maybe she can't cos she has to give 110% because of her small size..

she isn't too ugly, but never wears anything attractive... Please could you quote this great interview you mentioned.. even dull people can come across okay once in a while.. depends on the questions..

Agassi is a former FO champ who got dumped out in the first round in straights by a quallie.

That's far more of an upset than the Henin-coming-back-from-injury crashout.

And maybe, just maybe it has to do that you mostly read her English interviews which isn't the mothertongue of Justine.Would you sound that intresting speking in French?
Like you might know or not Justine pretty much broke all relations she had with her father. That same father used to tell her not to show any emotions, she practically had no right to laugh or to cry cuz only weak people do that. And eventhough her father isn't around her right now,you can't just errase 17 years of your life. She has gotten much more looser and open since she got married but if can't understand French it's really difficult to see that.We had this thread about it just a couple weeks ago at wtaworld.

And about her not wearing attractive clothes, everyone has their choices i guess.Like she said once after beating Anna K at the USO in 2000:I'm not her to do cinema,I'm here to play tennis.Sometimes she has weird choices but that makes me like her even more, she just so different than the rest. And she doesn't dress that bad:

Okay then... she is to be admired to some extent...

Her father sounds awful and all...

I still am moved by her story to some extent, but as a tennis star she just lacks the class and popularity that Kim has.

I'm just saying that she doesn't have the general star quality that the sisters have... that even steffi graf had.

I'm sure that if she really wanted that, she'd hire some people to 'make' her a star. It's not like she's lacking the money..But again she's just not like that
She's a tennisplayer and she wants to be just that..And once she retires she would to have a loving family around her, nothing special..Just like normal people
