Everyone who wears the 'cap backwards' is obviously mimicking Rocky Llegs out of respect!!!
* Hewitt's the original; Brad Pitt, Grosjean, Roddick, Coria, Reid, Gasquet, Shuettler,.. etc. have been totally unoriginal!
->> Lleyton's been wearing the white cap backwards since his 1st professional match at AO in 1997; tell me who else has consistently worn it that way for so long??

@@ I remember John McEnroe making fun of Hewitt's 'skater-boy' backward cap look when Mac was interviewed 4-years ago on Dave Letterman show~~ well the shoes on the other foot now isn't it!! Maybe John has to catch up with post-millenium young happening style<*-*>

Taylor Dent's service action is unashamadely a straight copy of Pistol Pete's!

Rafael Nadal's baseline game & unrelenting energy are another one taken straight from the "Rocky Llegs book on eye-of-the-tiger gutsy play". Of course Nadal is physically stronger than Hewitt-> so Rafael may prove to be a better exponent than the guru of passionate fighting tennis!

But the backward cap thing started before Hewitt was really around, and it's not an original thing, it's more like a natural reflex or action. Most of the people who put their cap on backwards do it because they have long hair and it would be in the way as well as somewhat protecting their head from the sun.

I also think that Justine walking like Amelie is a natural action as well because it makes sense if you're bulkier, that you'd walk with less fluidity.

A true copy I could think of is Alexandra Stevenson clearly taking the service action of Pete Sampras. Another are the two handers on both sides players who copied Monica. I think some young Croatian ATP players have taken some of Goran's techniques. I also see some of the Spanish women have Arantxa-like games.
Then what I see a lot, since I'm a huge Graf fan, are what I call the "Grafites." These are the many many girls who looked up to Steffi and she has left behind many of these girls on the tour! These are the ones on tour today that you see with the Steffi discipline, fitness, their style of clothing (nice but not flashy), neat appearance, sometimes pearl earrings, class and grace and sometimes their games and their attack and focus/mental strength. They are also people who are thoughtful and let their tennis do the talking instead of being hungry for the media's attention. Kim picked up a bit of Graf's forehand, Justine has the focus and clean game, Spirlea's game was a knock-off of Steffi's but she didn't get the mental part and Steffi speed! Mijana Lucic took some of her service stance. Osterloh clearly states Steffi as an influence and you could see it through her look on court. Paola seems to have this too. So next time you see a WTA player with these aspects, they are definitely influenced by Graf.

juan monaco's serve looks like a clumsy copy of roddick's.

well for me , monaco is a mixed of safin and zabaleta . u know he's serving action is exactly the same as zabaleta , and sometimes he heats the ball with one feet standing like safin . and his idols are safin and zabaleta , so he's a copy of them

it is not a clumsy copy of roddick's, here many people serve that way, zabaleta and chela for example serve similar to monaco too.

Yes, Dent's action is definitely a Sampras copy, but unfortunately he was unable to duplicate much of the accuracy, variety and consistency that made the latter's serve so great.

why though, it's a weird way to serve...

sampras also served faster than dent btw

I don't think he did - Sampras was one of those people who never served much over 130, 135 at the most, whereas Dent has hit the fastest ever serve recorded at Wimbledon, I believe, 145 mph in his match with Hewitt in 2001. It's the relentless going for pace that lets him down in fact, he throws variation and placement out of the window a lot of the time to try and hit it hard.

I dont know.

but it is not a bad way of serving I think, Zabaleta has the second best serve among the argentinean players.
Chela because of hsi height should have a better serve, but his is not bad either.

They say it helps them get more rhythm with a shorter backswing of the racket. Ah, I loved Chela's old serve, it looked ugly as hell but it was so great that he never even jumped off the ground to deliver it.

Heck, his serve didn't seem like anything against Roddick in Australia except a total, complete and utter embarrassment.

The weirdest serve I've seen was Aaron Krickstein - he used to totally look like he was dancing :p

The backwards cap thing has been around for years before Hewitt. Then there was Tommy Haas who designed those awful hats that are supposed to be worn backwards with the logo on the "front". I hate those hats!

There's also Kiefer's "Agassi-lite" game and he did go through a phase in the late 90s looking like Andre. So did Ljubicic. :D
