Was it his arm? I hoped Safin would win but not like that.

i think Safin would have won anyway, if Calleri didn't retire

you say that because of the score, but maybe calleri was struggling long before retiering :/

he probably was struggling before, therefore, if he continued the match, he would have lost

lucky guy? marat? that's the biggest joke I have heard! look at the next round and more, no one could say he is lucky! it's impossible that every opponent will give up the match! so marat has many things to do indeed!

i only saw the first two set.s Calleri came out the way he played against Agassi when he spanked him -- he was ripping shots and playing besides himself. Safin did what Jimmy Arias (the commentator i hear on ESPN-I) called a "fake tank" in the first set. everything about his body language broadcasted that he was going to just tank the flipping match. i wanted to choke him. then next thing you know Safin settles down and starts playing beautiful tennis, big serves, lovely touches. he just got into the groove. and mainly Calleri started running out of energy. on any other surface, most of his shots would have been winners, but on clay Safin was returning like a monster. up to the point that i saw, Calleri was not injured -- just frustrated, demoralized and de-energized.

by the way Safin now sports an interesting beard-mustache combo. it makes him look hot.

they said on ESPN today that it was an abductor... that's around the hip or groin or something right? Hopefully it's just pulled/strained and nothing worse!!

I consider the most importand aspect of this match the fact that Safin didn't have to play 5 sets. He might play a lot of them later.

left groin i think, for calleri... that's another player to fall to injury.... geesh...

thank goodness marat didn't have to go to 5. he's been doing the "fake tank" a few times this year hasn't he...

Fake tank! :D It always makes me laugh. Mentally ending the set and then his opponent makes some mistakes or some shots he lets go are winners and all of a sudden he starts trying again but ends up losing the set anyway. It's like those sure-to-be-winners jumpshots ending in the net: frustrating and so stupid it's funny at the same time.

(did I just define OAF for the fifth billion time?)
