I had a close heart attack yesterday when I read his name on Wikipedia. But a second later I saw (65) right to his name so I realised it wasn't him. World will drive nuts when the real MJ will die on day. It will top Diana deaths easily.

Thanks for posting this, might not have caught the news otherwise. I've read some of his columns before, I liked his writing on beers, ales, and lagers.

Just scarecrows isn't a plain popculture consumer, he likes reading about types of beers and whiskys. And one of the most appreciated authors of publications on alcohol has just died, while you peeps are calling the thread starter an asshole only because YOU know only one Michael Jackson, the singing star.

Clearly more people than the thread starter or myself knew the author, and they were saddened about the news. Obviously for majority of people there has always been only celebrity ONE Michael Jackson. I suppose nothing wrong with posting relief, but any insults in a RIP thread are inappriopriate, methinks.

Everybody knows Michael Jackson the singer but few the beer hunter (a keen fan of Belgian beer, by the way).

So, don't you think that it would have made sense to mention the fact that it wasn't the singer in his thread title if he didn't want to confuse a couple of people (whether he did that on purpose or not) to avoid insults in a RIP thread?

Insults are not about how known the dead person was, but how cultural the posters are. Apart from that, I agree with you. Not everybody is a wikipedia reader to know when opening MTF.

I know that beer hunter because he received a lot of attention in my country (just because he was such a big promoter of Belgian beer) but I don't really consider it a big gap in people's cultural knowledge if they have never heard of him.

It's quite logical to me that the first reaction of most people would be: "wacko jacko is dead? :eek: "

Just include, "Michael Jackson, the beer hunter, has died" and there's no confusion (or not as much anyway).

I didn't mean cultural knowledge but cultural behaviour. My first thought was the singer as well, before I found the link and recalled what my professor was saying about that guy during discussing some European processes about beer quality.

Sure but I'm guessing that a lot of people assumed that the point of the thread wasn't a RIP thread as such but the title was made to be confusing on purpose just to trigger a reaction from people. You know the thread starter better than most MTF'ers so you know better than us how he really intended it.

Yeah, it was written in huge letters along the entire one side of the stadium. The messages on the seats said the cards would spell out GO DARBY. Not only was the kid who planned it suspended for 3 days, he is banned from all sports activities for a semester. No doubt it is all over Utube.
