The greatest band ever and probably the most versatile, in my opinion. Fellow fans post any LZ-related material in this thread: favorite songs, quotes, video footage, interviews, tabs, live performances, etc.

Let the fun begin...

I'm not a LZ-fan but as a fan of music obviously like many songs of Led Zeppelin. I've got their 13 songs on my computer playlist. My fave-song - "No quarter".

Ever heard from The Beatles? Oh wait, I forgot you Americans don't listen to soft music. Pity that's where the most successful musicians are home ;)

Ever heard from The Beatles?

Sure, they're fine. However, LZ surpass them by miles in terms of substance and style simply because each member of the band highly excels at their respective field of expertise. Their music is so multi-layered and unbelievably expressive sometimes it feels as if they could make instruments talk. Just watch the 1973 Madison Square Garden performance of Stairway To Heaven. No way The Beatles could pull off such stuff.

...how mature...!
Anyhow, there's nothing wrong with soft music, and if you do some research you'll discover LZ did produce soft-er music. Whoever classified them as SOLE Metal artists/hard-rockers hasn't the slightest clue what their talking about.

Oh here's to my sweet Satan.
The one whose little path would make me sad, whose power is Satan.
He will give those with him 666.
There was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad Satan.

– Most popular version of the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven played backwards
Critics of rock and roll songs (and of Led Zeppelin in particular) have alleged[15] that a backmasked message is recorded into "Stairway to Heaven." The message, which allegedly occurs during the middle section of the song ("If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now..."), is purported to contain Satanic references
The controversy originated from a prominent Baptist, who, in 1982, preached on the radio that "Stairway to Heaven" contained subliminal backward messages.[16] This theory was later primarily advanced by Michael Mills, Jacob Aranza, and Jeff Godwin, who offered detailed analyses of the hidden meanings of both the "backwards" and actual lyrics. In 1982, the Consumer Protection and Toxic Materials Committee of the California State Assembly held a hearing on backmasking in popular music, during which "Stairway to Heaven" was played backwards.[17] William Yarroll, a self-identified neuroscientist, claimed that "Stairway to Heaven," when played backward, contains a similar message: "I sing because I live with Satan. The Lord turns me off — there's no escaping it. Here's to my sweet Satan, whose power is Satan. He will give you 666. I live for Satan.[2] Other versions of the alleged message include "Here's to my sweet Satan, no other made a path. For it makes me sad. Whose power is Satan? Oh, my number, 666", and "Oh, here's to my sweet Satan. The One whose little path has made me sad. Whose power is Satan? Oh, my number, 666".[18]

Led Zeppelin has for the most part ignored such claims; for years the only comment came from Swan Song Records which issued the statement: "Our turntables only play in one direction—forwards". Zeppelin producer Eddie Kramer confirmed this, calling the allegations "totally and utterly ridiculous. Why would they want to spend so much studio time doing something so dumb?" Robert Plant expressed frustration with the accusations in an interview: "To me it's very sad, because 'Stairway to Heaven' was written with every best intention, and as far as reversing tapes and putting messages on the end, that's not my idea of making music."

An informal experiment by scientist Simon Singh suggested that listeners only hear the message after prompting

this is sooo stupid...

go on the streets and ask every person you meet if they know the beatles and led zeppelin. after you are finished count the numbers of votes for each band. i guess i know the result.

btw stairway to heaven is the only song i could name you from led zeppelin whereas i can name you a lot of songs from the beatles, elvis or michael jackson like most people in the world could do.

Led Zeppelin is an amazing group.

The comparison to the Beatles is too difficult, imo... they are apples and oranges. Both stand at the pinnacle of their respective subset of rock.

LZ is indeed a grat band...Comparisons are bitter so there's no need for them. Both The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are GREAT bands.

with the difference that you feel something in your legs listening to the beatles music. led zeppelin songs are boring and their voices are quite bad.

Led Zeppelin and the Beatles are too diffrent to be able to compare them.

I think Pink Floyd is more comprable to Led Zeppelin than the Beatles are. Songs like "Money" and "One of These Days" are comprable to "Whole Lotta Love" and "Moby Dick".

The only song I know of the Beatles that resembles Zeppelin in any way shape or form is "Come Together". Otherwise, vocaly and the way the bands play the guitars and the drums are too diffrent.

One thing that does go for the Beatles is the fact that they've sold 1 Billion albums, wheras Led Zeppelin has sold around 300 Million and Pink Floyd more than 250 Million albums worldwide.

I prefer Zeppelin to Beatles and Floyd to Zeppelin, all three are awsome bands IMO, but the Beatles at there moment were too big. They affected the way people dressed, and they inspired pretty much all subsequent rock bands. Hell, they still sell strongly today, whith remixes and box sets of the Beatles coming out all the time.

Definitely top-10. It's too bad it wasn't included in their live shows after 1970.

Sellings and knownig of band have nothing to do with quality of music look at guitarist some people could say that prince is better guitarist than buckethead cos he sold much more cds etc beatles were soft so they appealed to wider audience led zeppelin is so great complex band jimmy page owns almost everyone plant is great singer their drums very avantgarde etc there few so complex bands.

yeah exactly , Led Zeppelin were so much better considering instrumental work, beatles were shit no real guitars, no real bass , only drums were decent. And the style of Beatles songs in majority is better , it was selling great some time ago and now hip-hop or rap is selling great but it doesn't mean that for example some hip-hop "musican" is making better music than for example Praxis only because everyone knows him and he is earning much more money.

Led Zeppelin is history of Rock music as much as Beatles , it influenced such bands like Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Aerosmith etc , beatles were making more mass music but they were still great. It is what I like about rock they could make great music in terms of lyrics. vocals and instrument and still be popular(in some cases of course)

And Considering Led Zeppelin directly, I love heartbreaker Jimmy Pages solo is totally awesome.
But Stairway to Heaven, Baby I'm Gonna Leave You, Whole lotta Love are also fuckin' great
