I guess the website had the scores wrong. They had it 40-15 and then a hold for Ferrer, and then it switched to 4*-3 Nole. Not that I'm complaining. :p

Nole has not been playing well the last 2 weeks and Ferrer has... I expected Ferrer to be a lot more trouble than this. In his last matches Nole hasn't been offensive... we've been begging him to be offensive but he's been grinding and I figured Ferrer would outgrind him. But in this match Novak is going for shots again, so... now it looks like a silly choice ;)

For his first slam, with the nerves, I prefer Davydenko.

In all his following slams he can face off against Fed... after he has one under his belt ;)

He called the trainer only to check to make sure he was doing the right things since he feels over heated. He got no treatment.. just wanted to make sure he was acting right.

Anyway, guys, what's the story with Robert de Niro and Novak? I saw a picture signed as "de Niro cheering for Novak Djokovic", and in his post match interview, Djoko said that red-blue-white shirts in his box was not idea of de Niro?

I'm little bit disappointed...there is so little off the court pictures in USO

Anyway, guys, what's the story with Robert de Niro and Novak? I saw a picture signed as "de Niro cheering for Novak Djokovic", and in his post match interview, Djoko said that red-blue-white shirts in his box was not idea of de Niro?

I'm little bit disappointed...there is so little off the court pictures in USO

I also saw Robert De Niro in Novak's box cheering for him. Nole will win tmr b/c he has the Godfather himself in his box.

Q. What did Novak do in Montréal that he was able to beat you, and how do you think it will be different tomorrow?
ROGER FEDERER: I mean, he played great, I mean, from the baseline. I have to say he was very consistent. You know, I mean, he usually always is. But he played very effective as well on his forehand side. He just hit the ball really well. Obviously he was going to be confident. I knew that. And usually coming out of a match with Nadal where you hit many balls, he's obviously going to hit the ball well. What else? I mean, I had bad starts in the first and third set. I was down a break right away in the first game. I mean, I caught up with the break. I even served for the set in the first set, being up 40‑Love. That was kind of a tough one for me. In the third set, tiebreaker, like he did in the first set, too, he played great.

Q. Novak is a player who likes to joke around and do impersonations of the players. What do you think of his impersonation of you?
ROGER FEDERER: I didn't see it. I didn't.

Q. He seems to be feeling pretty comfortable with where he is even though he really just came on the scene this year bigtime. Are you surprised with his rise so quickly?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, I mean, he's been now playing the tour for one and a half years. I mean, the players know him. I've played him already five times, so it's not like it's totally new, you know, for all of us. But, yeah, I mean, he's done an incredible job, because I remember the first time I played him in Monaco. I beat him in three sets. Everybody was wondering, What do you think? I was like, Not crazy impressed. But he's had a great run and he's really improved his game. Yeah, I mean, he's done a great job the last six months or one year now.

Q. When the draw came out, the feeling was if not Federer/Nadal, then Federer/Djokovic. Is this the kind of match even you look forward to?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, he's still very young, you know, so to right away put him into the finals if Rafa wasn't going to be there, it's kind of a lot of expectations, you know, on a young guy like Novak. But he fought through the match against Stepanek, you know, and after that he looked much more comfortable, even though he had a bit of a struggle sometimes. I mean, it's a great effort. He's had a very solid year. By far the best one after myself and Rafa. I have to say I can only be impressed by his performances, you know, because at this young age I never did results like this. First Grand Slam final, obviously it's a big occasion for him.

Q. This will be your 10th Grand Slam final in a row. You're going to be going for your 12th win. Do these numbers come into play at all when you're on the court? Are they in the back of your mind?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, I hope they do. We'll see how it goes really. I'm feeling well. You know, that's the main thing right now, right before the finals. Obviously the Saturday/Sunday thing is kind of tough on the players, you know. All of a sudden the rhythm changes entirely so instead of talking about a match you just played 45 minutes ago I have to start thinking already about the upcoming match against Djokovic tomorrow. I'm feeling great, you know. I know how to play him. I hope I can just do what I do best and hopefully win tomorrow.

Q. Do you remember your first Grand Slam final and what must Novak going through? Do you remember what it felt like, what he might be feeling?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, obviously this is a big occasion, playing also the No. 1 in the world. I didn't do that. I played against Philippoussis, who was kind of coming back from his injury, you know. With me, it was at Wimbledon. Wimbledon was my No. 1 of all time. I always dreamt of winning that one. So for me it was like, yeah, it was a lot of pressure. I remember being very nervous going into the match, hoping to win. Because I was the favorite, too, in that match. That was the tough part, too. I think it's maybe easier maybe if you're not the favorite for your first final.

Q. Are there any areas where Djokovic matches up well with you or even has an edge?
ROGER FEDERER: I mean, look, he's tough off the baseline. He's got a good serve. Yeah, I mean, he's got a good forehand, backhand. Similar to Davydenko, just with a better serve, it seems to me. I've had some matches where I played fantastic against him. Had a tough one in Montréal. We've had two best‑of‑five matches, once in Davis Cup, once at the Australian Open. I was able to beat him both times in straight sets. But, you know, these guys improve quickly. I felt that in Montréal. Hopefully I can beat him again this time around.

I think the first set he might be a little  just like he was in Indian Wells which he admitted, because he had never experienced that in his career before, and again here. The good thing for him is what Federer said, that Novak isn't expected to win, so really he can just go out there and do whatever. Maybe that will relieve some of the pressure, but that doesn't erase the fact that he's played some very long matches here

As long as Federer doesn't give him two bagels a la Hewitt a few years ago. If Nole has a chance to win a set it will be the first one where Fed has been vulnerable the entire tournament, dropping first sets to almost everyone  The bad thing is that is the set where Nole may have nerves... we'll see how it plays out tomorrow ;)

NEW YORK (AP) -- A little over an hour after reaching his first career Grand Slam final, Novak Djokovic was back in competition.

Playing foosball.

"I'm totally addicted," he said.

Djokovic spent a lot of hours in the players' lounge over the last two weeks at the U.S. Open, sharpening his skills at the table. He was back there Saturday after defeating David Ferrer 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Each time Djokovic turned the knobs, he let out a loud grunt, the same way he does when hitting a tennis ball.

Known for his spot-on impersonations of fellow pros, Djokovic celebrated a goal with another imitation. Doing his best Lleyton Hewitt, Djokovic bent his knees, pumped his fists and shouted, "C'mon!"

Djokovic wins (fussball) title
> Posted by Charles Bricker at 4:52:13 PM

NEW YORK -- This was the second time this afternoon that Novak Djokovic pulled off his shirt after a big win.

If you watched on TV, he partially disrobed after defeating David Ferrer. Now, a few hours later, after a gripping fussball match upstairs in the players lounge, he and Murphy Jensen, who is the comic relief on the Tennis Channel, took down all opposition.

As soon as they rammed home the final goal, Djokovic and Jensen turned toward each other, slapped hands in a high five that wasn't quite that high and then Djokovic, that ball of energey, started running manically through the lounge, pulling off his shirt and leaping over an armchair.
:haha:
I'm thinking, no, don't catch your back foot on the chair. I can see the headlines now: Serbian Semifinalist Suffers Leg Injury After Fussball Match.

No problem, though. He's fine. After vaulting the chair, he ran into the passageway that separates the lounge from the players dining room, then turned and reappeared. He came back, pulling his blue shirt back on and Jensen launched into one of his goofy interviews.

Watching Djokovic, 20, playing fussball is like watching a kid having the most fun of his life, not just here at the U.S. Open but the whole experience. This isn't the stodginess of Wimbledon. He can be himself here.

To begin with, no one does on-court interviews at Wimbledon, so he would never have had the opportunity, as he did here after the quarters, of putting his player impersonations on display.

Jensen, of course, had to try to one-up him. "Who's this?" he says as the Tennis Channel cameras are rolling and Jensen breaks down in faux tears. Djokovic looked at him quizzically, shrugging. He doesn't get it and, frankly, no one else does, either.

"Anna Chakvetadze," he says, as if he can't believe no one has figured this one out. Unfortunately for him, Djokovic didn't watch the Kuznetsova-Chakvetadze match, so he doesn't have a clue.

Djokovic throws himself into fussball the way he throws himself into tennis. "Watch out, here it comes!" he declared as he manipulated the handles of the fussball machine with Jensen.

If you thought Djokovic was so exhausted after another match in blazing hot weather here he would be immediately back to his hotel for a long rest, you were wrong. The guy is hyper.

He went downstairs to exit the grounds and his parents, Srdjan and Dijana were there to escort him away. His father, a stocky man of about 5-foot-10, threw his arms around his 6-foot-2 son and lifted him off the ground. He then put him down and kissed him on the cheek. His mother was a little less physical.

They weren't in Montreal four weeks ago for his win over Roger Federer in the final, but they're not going to miss this one.

Within five minutes, the Djokovices were in a van being taken back to Manhattan, where Novak probably should order room service, get a massage and chill for the next 24 hours.

Somehow, though, I sense that he might find a fussball game somewhere. You can't keep this kid down.

And of the ones that are "good," only half of them are uninjured at a given time.

And there aren't any really great youngsters coming through. All of the young players at the moment have glaring weaknesses in their games.

:woohoo:

Now we're back in business. :D

3*-4. domination time :rocker2:

Man, GM is insane. Nole grew from 0 haters to 5000 haters in a few weeks. Impressive.

Meanwhile, WTAworld absolutely loves him.

why the WTA love?
nice comeback in the first set nole....but poor nerves of those watching it :scared:

His box, the back row is wearing red, the middle row is wearing blue and the bottom row white.. they made the Serbian flag ;)

:haha: :haha: that idea must've come from nole :tape:

Novak Djokovic: Grand Slam finalist has such a spine-tingling ring to it.. Novak Djokovic: US Open Champion would be even better

:hearts: :hearts: TAKE THAT HATAAAAHS!!! including my sis the anti-me

And ezekiel bashes me in GM so all is right with the world :D

is he still at it? :awww: I fear for his wellbeing... :p

Are you still out to get Nole? Seriously Jess don't you think this is getting a little old maybe you should go after another player.:p

hmm...lets think of someone for jess to go after

I don't know if you heard, but I'm not a legitimate Nole fan because I think he's physically a bit spent and is not the favorite against Federer tomorrow ;)

I mean dude, he's playing against the GOAT and he WILL have nerves tomorrow.

I want nothing more than for him to win tomorrow ... but... I have a brain that can understand logic and reason and I like to use it :)

:spit:

I won't be able to watch the finals :sobbing: it'd start at 8.30am my time and I have an exam at 9am :bigcry:

all the best for the exams!!!! owww..your story reminds me of me in 2000. I had my O level prelims for english lit during the finals... and my final didn't turn out too good (but then, it's english lit, so everyone else in the cohort weren't too brilliant either, the department sets tough standards :scared: so it was still ok and my actual O levels were still ok anyway so it didn't matter) but anyway, we know how the 2000 final turned out so it'll work out the same way for you. I hope. oh, but I'm sure you'll do better in your exam than I did :p

The women's tour is a complete joke right now, honestly. The matches are almost all terrible. There just aren't any really great players.

The women's field is weak but Henin has a great all court and is extremely quick and courageous. She qualifies a great player. The Williams sisters are less well rounded but they have great power which is tough to face. I think Jankovic is near that level.

What do you mean by overall suckiness? Roger had some very exciting matches.....Capedeville, Isner, Lopez, Roddick.

Total mental breakdown by Sveta.

I don't think Sveta was in top form. Her half of the draw was weak where as Justine had to play much higher ability opponents to get to the final. Justine was physically and mentally more able and ready.

Sveta's half of the draw seemed to be a set up to try to get Sharapova to another final. It didn't work though.
