Only 1 Italian in it - Volandri obviously... Starace and Seppi are in the final of the qualifying draw but I bet neither win, most hope is with Seppi.

ivan has an ok draw for the first two rounds.
mario has a tough draw
ivo has the best draw of all the croats but he will have to be playing well...

Ivo has to serve well and that's all it comes down to croat.

ESPN must have had influence over the draw, lol.

How did Roddick get lucky? Potentially playing two countryman (Martin and Ginepri) is no easy task. Martin has had big wins in his career (not so much on clay though) and Ginepri can play. So please tell us your logic...or do you just dislike Roddick for some reason?

dubis016
05-21-2004, 12:19 PM
Yea, Roddick didn't get as easy draw as some other seeded players..
but looking at their recent form, they prolli have no chance taking roddick out... isn't that what they meant??

*Ljubica*
05-21-2004, 12:25 PM
Agassi has a far easier draw than Roddick I think, though I wouldn't be surprised if Todd takes him out in the first round - hope so anyway :)

You don't get it you how many matches has Ginepri won on clay? Pick a number between .5 and 1 and you might have the answer.

Todd used to be reasonable on clay, but he is past it in a big way, though he could easily pull of an upset, if Arthurs could do it, why not Todd.

Mutis will beat Ginepri in straight sets. Ok, Roddick could have easily got Gaudio, Calleri, Canas, Volandri, Mantilla, Arazi, Youzhny somewhere in his section and he got none of them.

Oh come on, it could have been a whole lot worse.

First round:Todd Martin could be difficult, but he's no clay specialist. Worse alternative: look at Ferrero's first round - Tommy Haas.

Second round: Ginepri has never won a match on clay in his life. There's not many people you can say that about in this draw.

Third round: Arnaud Clement. Not so bad, when you consider it could have been former champions Guga or Costa.

Fourth round: Srichaphan. The easiest of the four possibles he could have had. Paradorn won't even get there.

Quarter final: Agassi. There's no easy qf match up, but I doubt Andy would have fancied playing the other candidates, Moya or Nalbandian, or even Schuettler, considering he's lost to him on the last 3 occasions they played.

Now do you still think that's a difficult draw?

I think Haas will lose against JC even though the spaniard is not in good form. Karlovic will lose against Kucera. Agassi has a terrific draw & he should even win against Spadea. All he needs is momentum. No high seed is really in danger. The increase of the seding from 16 to 32 really has helped them.

There were 18 qualifier spots to fill. 16 guys qualified by winning their three matches, including Juan Monaco, who doesn't seem to be in the main draw (perhaps he pulled out?). There are 3 lucky losers.

Juan Monaco is going to play Alex Bogomolov, Jr. in the first round. Gregory Carraz pulled out.

Yep. They've never played each other either. If Alex is feeling ok this match should be a good one. The only time that he's ever lost in 3 sets was to Federer at the Aussie this year. Other than that, he's come so close. I wouldn't have picked Monaco to be the one for him to get his first win in a main draw but if that's the way it has to be, then that's the way it has to be ;) .

Sucks that ESPN won't show this match either
