Damn, I must admit that I'm a bit pissed off that he was not able to take this great looking opportunity because his quarter without Youzhny and Nadal became pretty much open  Don't know when he gets the next chance like this in a hardcourt Masters.

It's too bad, but it was an encouraging tournament anyways.
Good luck in New Haven if you get WC, Juan!

It indeed was a big missed opportunity :( but he should have learned a lesson or so here: beware of a blister! And, another win against top 10 is priceless.

A few steps forward at a time - though I wouldn't mind his making a BIG step at once! ;)

Juan plays doubles in New Haven, together with Agustin Calleri. I read somewhere that Juan asked for a WC for the singles draw, but that it was given to David Ferrer. Anyway, still good that Juan plays doubles and gets some more match practice on hard court before the US Open.

Vamos Juan :)

No problem if Juancito doesn't win in doubles. What counts is the single competition and Juan reached the third round :) He won 6-4, 6-0, 6-7 and 6-4 against Sela from Israel. Good win :)

Third round, very good result for Juan so far. I'm glad he used his seeding and won the matches he could really win :yippee:

I hope he has some good tricks against Calleri and hope he is consistent. Calleri comes with a good win into this, but as so often with him, he also fails to back it up the next round(s) too often. So I think there is a chance for Pico in this one as well :) let's see...

Yeah, Juan is winning matches he should win - that's the big difference between "Juan 2006" and "Juan 2007"!

And he has started winning against big boys, too. He seems to exceed my initial expectation for "Juan 2007". :worship:

Vamos, Juan!

Corina2605

And Juan won another match, yay :) :) :)

Juan beats Agustin Calleri very easily. The result was 7-6, 6-2 and 6-4 :)

I am so happy Juan shows his potential in New York :) Vamos!!!

Altho not a particular fan of Pico, I have been impressed w his 3 titles this year, good for him, and how well he has been doing in general, on clay [pushing Rogi in MC] and this week at the USO, pushing Nole like crazy, taking a set! Well done to Pico! I am happy for his progress! ;)

Well, I'm again impressed by Juan's evolution.

I was impressed this spring (Hamburg & RG) and anew this summer (Stuttgart & Kitzbuhel). But, frankly, I had a bit of doubt about Juan on hard court - I mean, I thought maybe not this year yet. But he surpassed my expectation. What a nice surprise!

We are so proud of being Juan's fan, aren't we?

And, it is so nice to hear compliments from many people. (Hi Rogifan :wavey: )

Just heard from a Japanese friend of mine who's been to New York that Juan remembered her (from last year's Japan Open) and greeted in Japanese - in a very polite & correct Japanese. What a pity we will not see him at Japan Open this year. We will miss him a looooooooot!

Good luck in Metz, Stockholm, Madrid, etc. Don't forget to get your 4th title of the year in one of the tourneys.
