Seems that thanks to Sean the forum is getting a bit more active again, at least Stan's cheering thread is. Would like to get to know the fellow fans a bit better.

:wavey: I am Yvo. Have to admit that at first I only cheered for Stan because he's Swiss, when I did know him better I started to cheer for him because he seems a nice guy and is a great player.

Great idea, Yvo. My name is Sean and I'm from Perth in Australia. I am 13 years old. :p

My hobbies are tennis (duh!), music, swimming at the beach & loads of other stuff. :yeah:

I must admit I only really became a fan of Stan a few weeks ago after seeing highlights of his Stuttgart matches and I really like his game and the amazing shots he comes up with. ;)

I hope to get to know all the other Stan fans out there. :D

Btw, Yvo, are you from Switzerland? I assumed you were from Finland because of your flag.

So funny to see how many people of different ages are around, somehow I always think everybody has the same age as me.

Will add a bit more to my introduction, I live in the Netherlands, but I always have the Finnish flag next to my nickname here, because I love that country.
So no Swiss girl here, I do love Switzerland as well tho. I have always been interested in that country and often been there when I was younger. And I like most of the Swiss players, it started with Roger, whom I became a fan of in 2002. (you are not hte only one who asked this, with my love for Swiss players, a lot of people wonder where I am from)

I am 22 years old, I really love visiting tennis tournies, travelling, reading, biking.

I hope to see more fans coming here, I am sure there are more than who usually post in his cheeringthread!

Nothing against Nottingham Open, but... Moment, when exactly did the tournament turn
up to be played on hard court because of the rainy conditions? Did that happen last year? :p

Yes two of the finals were played indoors because of the rain, but spectators weren't allowed in, but it didn't stop me peering through the window to see, but TV cameras were allowed in and I saw those two finals on TV in the evening. Last year the semi-finals were played indoors and they were shown on TV too;) So thats what I mean when I say I have enjoyed every moment of it:D

You're clearly more dedicated than me, there was no way I was going to stand in the car park in the rain. :silly: :p Did you witness that wacky indoor Gasquet match last year?! I don't think he liked the tournament much after being put on there...
It's just a pity that Stan doesn't have much success on grass but still I wish he'd at least come and play this year.

But then I don't really need to stand in the car park as I guess I have plenty of tournaments on my doorstep where I can watch. ;)

There were a few us peering in with the rain coming down at the indoor matches:lol:. I felt particularly sorry for Tursunov and Garcia Lopez, bizarrely the outdoor conditions were favouring the clay court player more, then with the match nicely poised they were driven off finally by the torrential rain and had to finish the q/f match indoors where the fast conditions indoors clearly suited Tursunov. All the other players knew they were playing indoors from the start of their matches. Yes I did witness the Gasquet match, just a bizarre situation when players go from outdoors to indoors mid tournament. In a situation like that everyone loses. At least the final was played in nice weather and the quality of the match was pretty good.

Of course its a shame Stan isn't as good on the grass but I don't see why he cant be a really good grass court player. And it goes without saying that I wish he was coming to Nottingham this year.

Lets hope the final edition is played out in glorious weather all week:).

hiya all, i'm new here :). my name's negla, from indonesia but currently staying in the UK :). I must admit that I didn't really notice stan until olympic came (oh the shame!) but to my defence (:p) it was because there's so little about stan on the media (at least the english speking media), and his matches usually is not on telly :(.

But the beijing olympic has been a real eye opener! He played so well with roger in the doubles and then I started looking for the videos of his matches, and I'm a lost cause ever since lol. i particularly love his backhand. He has a pretty good forehand too but his backhand is fantastic. It just occured to me that his backhand, the way he executes it, is very similar to roger, only stan's perhaps more with power while roger's backhand more about placement/precision.

so yeah, newly converted stan fans here :). it annoys me that they showed only bits of stan's matches in USO and the only match which is broadcasted in full was when he lost against murray XB. hopefully there'll be more of him in the future :D!

(and yes, it does help that he's cute and darn fit also :D:D:D!)

I sure hope they both will play in davis cup match this month! I need my federinka fix... ;).

I hope next year stan can impose himself more on the top ten. this year USO there are so many news articles on other players, een those with much lesser ranking, but it's so hard to find articles about stan's match other than perhaps from swiss newspaper (which I don't understand the language at all!).

He's looking pretty good this year, so hopefully he can build his game upon that and play much better next year :)!

and yeah, stan and andy are good friends indeed, but stan really idolises roger, doesn't he XD. I mean, in some interviews, he sounded like that :). they're just adorable.

and it was funny listening to the USO commentator (mats wilander (sp??) and the other commentator who I forget the name :p)) still gushing about team federinka's gold medal and how it must have given roger the confidence he needed to bounce back in USO.. :).

Hi all, I'm Sophie. :) I first really noticed Stan because of the Federer link and thought he seemed really sweet, so I've got to be a big fan of him.

I'm from the UK, am 14, and love watching tennis. :p I can't really play but I like badminton and table tennis. Apart from that I like the usual things - books, music, films.
It's very nice to see so many lovely Stan fans out there. :bounce:

I also love Stan since before 2008 but i don't remembre the exact moment when he started to like me, i am also on Roger of course, who don't like Federer? And Gilles Simon is my other top. Also i enjoy so much going to tennis tournies, in fact , lately when i am able to have some days off is to go to a tennis tournament.
I am 28 years old and also would like to know other fans of tennis and specially of my three favourites

I think this is the first time I would reveal some personal details of myself in this forum, haha.

Hi, I'm Zion John. But you could call me with the first two initials, ZJ here in the forum. I live in the Philippines, I am a BS Computer Science graduate, so I really appreciate the effort Marv (Slasher) does on his rankings, and an avid tennis and Survivor watcher. I like to play games like Mario games and Pokemon.

I am actually just a relatively recent tennis watcher (just followed a whole season during mid 2013 to 2014), that the first time I really saw the best of Stan was the AO 2013 match, where I was surprised an underdog like him has somehow breadsticked Djokovic, so with the free streaming courtesy of AOTV I watched how it goes. I thought it was inevitable a bit when he was down 2-1 in Sets but was cheering for him to finally win that TB and he did! Was really hoping he would've won that match but it wasn't meant to be, but then followed him a bit once in a while. Was glad when he won Oeiras (with Haas winning Munich the same week I think, who I remembered did excellently against Djokovic on Miami that year) and watched him reach the Final in Madrid. I think after that I really followed Stan in RG (I wasn't able to watch the match against Gasquet because my TV provider only aired Philippe Chatrier at that time) and was impressed how he got back to win it from behind. Discovered the power of stream and followed him on some events like the Masters. However, he really impressed me with his run in USO, Shanghai, Paris and WTF. Tried to look more about his game too and was impressed how much he has done with the BH.

I was really intrigued by his underdog story, but it all culminated at AO 2014. After how many matches close against Djokovic, and the improvements he has shown last year to be back on the Top 10, it just feels that this year's AO would be special, that Stan wants to prove that his mentality has improved much. The moment he beat Djokovic thought I just know he had a great breakthrough especially Djokovic where he was quite unbeatable on that tournament for a while. Many seem to be resigned that Stan won't win against Nadal but with how close their matches have been I just know it would be time he would finally win that first Set. However, winning it just takes the cake! He became the first non-Big Four player to win a Slam since Del Potro, and it was just sweet. Sure, the following matches have been up and down (but was really impressed with his MC performance), but he shows how different he is from the different champions, quite more unpredictable than they are that it is worth watching how he does early in tournaments. Was happy that he won the DC which he really wants to win. It's incredible that someone late in his career is able to still accomplish new things.

All in all he is an interesting character. He started as underdog, then turned to a dark horse, then turned to a champion, that is really a big deal on this very consistent era. I have to say it's quite underrated how he achieved this feat especially the Big Four have not been giving virtually any room to other players, which while is great showing how threat it is, is not really that good for the tour's esteem IMO, kind of resigning that they are just the second best. Stan didn't resign to that matter and shown that if you exert your talent to the full potential who knows what it could take you. The "Ever Tried, Ever Failed. No Matter. Try Again, Fail Again, Fail Better" is really an inspiring quote that you should always try to make better of yourself even though it seems you would only land as second best. Who knows, maybe all that betterment would actually be enough to make you be the best. By winning RG, he has shown that it's never too late if you have shown promise, that you have to motivate yourself everytime, and IMO has shown some impact on players like Berdych and Monfils and also I think Cilic in his performance in USO, who kinda started to not feel content of where they are, as at the time they were better than Stan, but as Stan has now grabbed his opportunity and they believe that if Stan could get to that peak, why couldn't they? Stan's unpredictability and story has shown that there is more to tennis than the Big Four and that you could be vulnerable but it's how you get out of that vulnerability that makes a champion.

I like Stan because of his explosiveness, especially his backhand. He generates tonnes of power, which is the kind of tennis i like to watch. Apart from Stan, I also like Richard Gasquet, Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios and Lleyton Hewitt.

I started supporting Stan in 08, but I did not go fully Stan until the middle of 2012. The best moment of being a Stan fan was winning against Djokovic at AO. That was in the year I went, but I did not have tickets for that night

I don't know if this will be popular thread, but maybe I'll make a new thread and transfer some of these, so we can get to know all the current Stan fans :yeah:

I would love to go to the Australian Open. It is probably the closest from where I am, and I guess the most cheap to go to. However it seems that the facilities there are the most solid and IMO is one of the best Slams overall in terms of matches and quality. It seems advanced with the roofs but it make sure it is still Grand like the other Slams. My birthday is close to AO so it should be an interesting birthday travel.

Treat Conrad Huey is one of the top Doubles specialists that represents the Philippines. I kind of hope he has more exposure because Filipino love to see our athletes being represented, and would like him to succeed more because of it. He had a great showing especially during the IPTL where they visited Manila (Murray, Sharapova, Ivanovic I think, and even Tsonga was there too).

That explains it, I thought of tonnes of singles players instead. I get now he's in Filipino colours. How is Filipino tennis btw?

My family comes from Sri Lanka. When I was 11 I once thought I could make a special project so they could all become better tennis players there :haha: at least I think we're in WG ||| back then we were nothing

Well i should introduce myself then. :D

I'm Bradey from rainy Seattle in the United States. I'm 21 years old, gay (I find Stan so cute :hearts:),and I'm doing a bachelors degree in history (hope to go onto law school/grad school). My other main interests these days include playing tennis, kayaking, jogging, and video games (mainly the Super Mario franchise). I first watched Stan USO '07 vs. Safin, but I didn't become a *fan* until 2011. I watched him play live (doubles) at 2011 IW. :p

Practically the only sport I think that is popular here is basketball. Other than that, there is the Pacquiao matches which usually feels probably like the Super Bowl in the US on how much it attracts viewers (and commercials ). Other popular sports here but doesn't seem to have that big of a professional attraction yet are volleyball (recently only we had a professional league) and football (thanks to the efforts of the Azklas, the national team recently, it has gain ground, and hopefully it still grows).

Tennis? Well, it seems to attract viewers. In terms of professionally, not so much, seeing that we only had what, 3 or 4 singles players in total playing and all of them below the Top 800 I think? Also they are quite veterans and not young and upcoming players. Treat grew actually in the US but had a Filipino mother so I think he decided to help the Filipino tennis organization here for Davis Cup and such. However, like many Filipinos who grew abroad with Philippine-born parents, usually I think they are proud of being Filipino, and do come to the Philippines from time to time. I was kind of hoping that maybe he could win a Slam (he did reach a Masters Final with Janowicz one time but beaten by the Bryans) so that more Filipinos could take notice.

I like to think that if I was professional, I would play for Sri Lanka over Australia. Once I tried to play for them in DC, but there were other NR Sri Lanka mugs (who were much better than me :o) who played. I'm pretty sure they lost 5-0  (they may have won doubles)

Hopefully in the future tiny nations like ours will have their time :D

Hey all new to the forums and wanted to jump to the Stan forum to post! I always thought Stan was a guy that would stick around but was always worried he wouldn't be able to break through, but it was unreal to watch him in Melbourne last year defeating Djokovic and Rafa. Absolutely sublime. I will admit I did not expect him to steamroll at Roland Garros like he did this year. The draw worked out well for him and he was playing the best tennis of anyone in the tournament. The evolution of Stan as a perennial top 15 player to a 2x Grand Slam Champion and Davis Cup Champion is in part due to Magnus Norman. Stan was honest in Paris after winning when he said Magnus made a huge impact and instilled the belief that STAN CAN do it. He can shock the world. He can knock out the Top 2 seeds in a Grand Slam twice en route to give his fans memories we will never forget. Allez Stan!!!

I'm staying by the Thames, somewhere called Cheval Three Quays. Nice place with good view of the river. It's right next to the Tower of London.

I applied for tickets in the ballot, but didn't get any tickets in it. Since I would be in London anyway, I decided to go for the late tickets. Over a thousand pounds :o I have the court no. 1 tickets

I get double Swiss, official OOP confirms I will see Stan. Hopefully doesn't rain!

Ho Vladisimo :wavey:

I have seen Stan twice now. I saw him best BERDYCH in AO semi. It was kinda heartbreaking 2b there though, the last shot was an epic disaster especially after a great serve

Indian man sitting in front of me came in second set. Kept shouting 'Go STAN!' Then as soon as it was 1-1 sets he started screaming, 'Gasquet, You Can!' All the way until Richard served for the match, when he said 'STAN, YOU CAN!'. At the last game he said Both of You CAN!

Very annoying

Yeah I know what you are talking about ..I was sitting with my gf watching coric karlovic (I highly dislike coric) and sudently 2 girls apeared and sat beside us and started screaming haide coric(c mon coric) even though they had to ask me what s his name (so they knew shit about tenis) they quite made me mad that afternoon :))

I only get one analysis live, so here it is:

He went for the huge backswing off a ball with no pace and missed by 2 metres. But really there was a huge shank noise that echoed around the stadium, so imho the ball hit the bottom edge of his raquet and he scooped it up.
