MOYA MOTORS INTO THIRD ROUND

Former French Open champion Carlos Moya clinched a bittersweet victory over fellow Spaniard and best friend Fernando Vicente at the French Open.
The 27-year-old claimed his 11th straight win over Vicente, beating him 6-1 6-2 6-1 to reach the third round at Roland Garros.

Vicente seemed to be going through the motions against Moya and never looked like troubling the base-liner’s game.

“Well, it’s not easy. He’s my best friend on the tour and I know he’s having a hard time now because he was injured for a long time,” Moya said.

“Now he’s trying to recover and he’s trying to be at the same level as he was before. But he is not playing that well. That’s not easy, because I am also playing very solid with a lot of confidence.

“So you know, it was not easy.”

Moya seemed unable to look his opponent in the eye after the one-sided match.

“Well, what can I say is I didn’t have fun at all today, although I played a very good match and I won in straight sets playing solid,” Moya added.

“If it was against another player, I would be happy but today I was not that happy because I saw that he was struggling a little bit.”

Did you folks read this.....That sounds not a pleasant victory for him...
That's always not easy to face a friend as an adversary...

Good luck to Carlos Moya, I hope he'll win the tournament !! I saw "live" his first round and it was great to see him play. I took pics which will be available soon on my website. Against Robredo, it won't be easy but he can do it !! Vamos Carlos !!!

next one is Coria!!
Moya lost the last three times, so it is time to win instead of loosing from Coria!!!
Good luck Moyke, if you are playing strong, aggressiv, serve good you make chances, but you must win the important points and don't waist any breakpoints or setpoints!!!!

Carlos played well yesterday (according to the score as we don't have any broadcast here, because it was too late). I was a bit anxious about the match against Robredo, but now he's playing Coria, I really hope he'll beat him. I think he's confident at the moment and can do it. Coria only played one set yesterday. Well, good luck Carlos !!!

what??? Moya lost all three times to Coria???

Then I guess it would be a bit of mental block for Moya to start with.

Moya can do it, he has to believe in himself.

Moya HAS lost to Coria the last 3 times, but won the 2 before that, so head to head it's 3-2 Coria. [Moya won Buenos Aires 2003(Coria runner-up), then Moya was runner-up to Coria at B.A. in 2004].
I guess the stats. show Coria's improvement over the last year, but Carlos has returned to form with force, and there is no reason why he can't beat Coria tonight. He will have to stay focused, serve well and not let Coria get ahead, as Guillermo is crafty & not prone to errors. Should be a great match!

I wish the French organisers had put this match on the main court (Chatrier). These guys are the 3rd & 5th seeds, and deserve to be there ... but what?? -the Henman(9)/Chela(22) match is there, while the 2 favs. are on Suzanne Lenglen court !??! Crazy !!!

The Moya/Coria match should be the REAL French Open final !!!!

And VAMOS CARLOS !!!

(Yes, I am alive)

Carlos was estatic after his win over Robredo....I think he realised just how tough the match could have been so for him to get through it in straight sets I think it has given him A LOT of confidence...I hope he carries it with him into the match tonight....he CAN beat El Germo as he hasn't been at his best lately...I have seen both of them play and Carlos is by far the better player.

Buena suerte Carlos!!! Vamos y LUCHA!!!

Hi, The Suzanne Lenglen court is one of the main court, no problem and this court is less faster than the Philippe Chatrier. I think both like to play on this type of court. This year, they decided to make Mauresmo play on the Philippe Chatrier, as she is French. The years before, all the quarters were on the Suzanne Lenglen, not this year. Well, I'm sure Carlos will win, I really hope.

French tv should broadcast the match, depending at which time, it will start.

I agree with you, it should have been a final

I don't think Carlos really turned up yesterday...he wasn't all there....I only got to see the 2nd set as they didn't show the 1st and I fell asleep at the start of the 3rd....but he had so many chances and didn't take any of them. It was one of the most depressing matches I have seen of his. Possibly the most.

Onto Wimby now Carlos....vamos!

Bee
06-03-2004, 08:04 AM
Yes, :(( ... what a pity - que lastima - that Carlos didn't win either of those first 2 sets ... might have been a different story then ... he served for both those sets ... but, when Coria is "on", what can you do??
Moya's serve wasn't working, he had to work really hard for his points, and I think he has this 'mental thing' with Coria (maybe Federer & Roddick too?) And this was the only men's quarter-final played on S. Lenglen court ... aaahhh, nothing we can do about it now.
And Guga got beaten too, also Hewitt swept off the court! All Argies in the semis, except Timmy Chook-man. What a strange French Open this year !

I think Coria will win the title ... so, Carlos, it is not a disgrace to lose to the eventual winner ! Go forth, to Davis Cup & Wimbledon ... show us how well you can play on grass (just like your match against Mark P. in the D.C. final in Melbourne!

Strange FO indeed!!! 3 Argies and no Spaniards in SF!
AND Yeah Carlos, on to Wimby!!!!! :bigclap: Although it was such a huge opportunity to take the RG crown again that I just can't get over my disappointment!

Hi, in the French sport newspaper L'Equipe, Carlos said that he didn't understand why they had to play on the Suzanne Lenglen court. They deserved the Philippe Chatrier. It was supposed to be the "final". They prefer letting Henman play on that court.

Maybe, I have a reply. The SL court is slower than the Philippe Chatrier. Maybe the organisers wanted to "advantage" Henman, as the Philippe Chatrier court is faster. The SL court advantaged Coria who liked to play in that conditions. Carlos lost last year on the SL court, so I understand why he had so bad memories.

Well, it was just to reply to Bee. Carlos thought the same.

I hope he'll play on grass.

CARLOS!!! First he didn't get to play on the main court, second, it wasn't his day and he lost! These things happen but Carlos is still a great champion and will always be a force! Hard courts! Watch out for my Carlitos this summer!!!! :bigclap: :D
