Is this what you're talking about?

The exhibition match on Nov 22 is part of the Merdeka (Independence) Tennis Challenge that includes the inaugural Malaysia Open Championship and a second-tier Challenger tour event.
World number one Roger Federer will play Pete Sampras in an exhibition match in Kuala Lumpur in November to celebrate Malaysia's 50th year of independence, organisers said on Wednesday.
Swiss Federer, who trails the American's record of 14 grand slam titles by four, will take on the 35-year-old former world number one in a match billed as the 'Clash of the Times'.

The homepage of tournament is at http://merdekatennis07.com/ (but nothing much at the moment). You can try to email the contact listed there, I got responses when I enquired about Federer-Sampras match. And I think the ticket will soon be available via TicketPro (http://www.ticketpro.com.my/). :-)

I already bought tickets quite a while ago.

They are already available from: http://www.ticketpro.com.my/
Just search for the exhibition.

Not sure why no announcement was made to be honest - unlike the Macau one.
Hope some are still left!

apparently is going to be a very important challenger 150+h
it is going to be played at Indoor Carpet from November 19 to November 25 (qualies start at November 17) the week after Shanghai Masters...
some top 100 players will come here by sure :D

I believe players project costs and benefits before they decide where to go. A first round loss in Kuala Lumpur doesn't make it a very cost-efficient investment ;)

I don't know why it didn't hold right after Busan. There's no challenger in Asia that week. Instead, it's held in week 47 where there's also a challenger in Yokohama.

This way, it'll be move justifiable (financially) for Western players to travel to Asia because they can at least play for 4 consecutive weeks (for those who don't think they will go deep).

Shockingly weak draw. I wonder why all the ALTs withdrew, as they could have easily gotten into the main draw.
Malaysia may be a bit out of the way, but it's very inexpensive and quite a tourist-friendly place. And there are two Challengers in New Delhi in the next two weeks, so players could have planned to do all three weeks. Strange.

The qualifying draw is an absolute disgrace!! What happened to Malaysian tennis after Adam Malik, who got pretty close to top-100 in doubles (and around 430 in singles) in the 1990s?

PKBasu
11-17-2007, 01:33 AM
Anyway, good luck to Mustafa Ghouse in the qualifying draw. He has been focusing on doubles, and now doesn't have a singles ranking! But if he wins Q1, this could be his chance to gain a lot of singles points!

And all the best to Harsh Mankad (returning from almost a year's injury break) and Rohan Bopanna (in both singles and doubles).

Yes, a terrific doubles draw -- headed by the former Wimbledon doubles champs, Huss/Moodie.
Very disappointing singles draw -- and a shockingly dismal singles qualifying field -- for the size of tournament.
This is going to be played on an indoor hard court. (I've actually played quite a bit there when I worked in Malaysia for the last couple of years, but this apparently is a new surface).

Thanks for the interesting info. I had not noticed this was an indoor tournament. Since it's snowing here, I tend to think it's nice, warm and sunny everywhere else.

Hope there will be lots of spectators for the doubles. With that weak a field in singles, someone I won't name :tape: better quit mocking Rimouski and Granby :(

Rimouski and Granby have poor fields. Kuala Lumpur has a horrible field in singles for the prize money they offer, but it suffers, like Rimouski and Granby, from poor scheduling and remoteness.

valexie03, it is hot and humid in Kuala Lumpur almost throughout the year -- but it rains almost every day, especially in the late afternoon and evening. That is why it makes sense to play in an indoor facility (to guard against the rain). The facility isn't air-conditioned, so it is very humid and players would be well-advised to bring lots of fluids.

the University of Central Manchester has put together the "ultimate tennis player" to see if it would rival Federer's game. They concluded that the ultimate player would consist of Brumstrom's hand-eye coordination, Brumstrom's tactics, Brumstrom's serve, Brumstrom's determination and aggression, Brumstrom's backhand, Brumstrom's forehand,Brumstrom's balance, Brumstrom`s speed/power, Brumstrom's agility
