Not an easy draw, but some interesting possible match-ups.

Lots of fun first and second round matches:

1st round

Hewitt/Ferrero
Blake/Melzer
Lee/Wawrinka
Baghdatis/Moya
Tursunov/Kiefer
Verdasco/Chela
jmdp/frank
Canas/Mathieu

2nd round

Federer/Karlovic
Baghdatis/Berdych
nole vs kiefer or tursunov
gasquet vs verdasco or chela

3rd round

Federer/Murray
Gonzalez/Haas
Roddick vs Berdych/Baghdatis
Canas vs Nadal
!

I'm excitied.

Awful draw. And I'm not just saying that. Tursunov/Kiefer :tape: If Kiwi plays.. :scared: just to have to play Ferrer/Nalbandian? :tape: Just to win and have to play Roddick? :tape:

I'm glad he doesn't have anything to defend here I suppose, because I don't like this draw one bit  He hasn't played much lately, these are going to be his first matches off of clay * * and hopefully he'll adjust well... but.... grrrrrrr.

It's not an easy draw but could be much worse. At least he's in Roddick's section and in Nadal's half.

The first match he plays would probably be the most difficult until the semifinals. I just hope he's in his RG/Wimbledon form and not his Umag one. :o

Roddick hasn't beaten a player currently in the top ten this year. He lost to a player outside of the top 100 on his best surface last week. I really don't see him as much of a threat to the top players.

Tough draw for sure, with potential matches against Tursunov and Roddick. Ferrer isn't as formidable as he is on clay though so I wouldn't worry too much about that match assuming he gets past Tursy. :p

And he's playing doubles with Nenad. Will be interesting to see how they match up. This could potentially be an effective partnership. :D

That's a great doubles win for Nole :D

I think Ferrer is a tougher opponent than Nalbandian  Ferrer has some good power and can control points... and Nole doesn't like being on defense. But Nalbandian is a pretty defensive player and Nole will be able to dictate the match and keep it on his terms. Plus Nalbandian just isn't the same player that was #3 in the world or whatever he was.

Nole wins 6-2 6-3! So now it is either Roddick or Baghdatis...
I get the feeling that an in form Baghdatis could be more dangerous...although Roddick can be dangerous when he has monopoly over his own service games...plus Novak has beaten Baghdatis before, so that should give him confdence.
Anyways, good luck to Novak in QF! :)

Large number of mistakes from the base line...
first set won Andy 6:2 and made one break in the second...
I like Marcos but still this is not the way you could beat Roddick.. anyway.. there's still a chance

I also thought both players did well. Novak sent a few of those really short forehands to Roddick's forehand.

That's what he has to do a lot of against Nadal. Hit those round-house forehands extremely shallow to Nadal's backhand (inside the service box, at least). Nadal's worst shot is the leaning forward-backhand.

How was the match? I couldn't see it.

It was very good. Novak was fearless.

Nadal played just about as good as he can play on hard court, IMO.

I can't decide if Novak played better in Miami (vs Nadal) or tonight. Either way, it was either the best or second best he's ever played---that I've seen.

Great win from Nole.

Again I disagree with Joe  I didn't think Nole played nearly as well as he did in Miami. He made a lot of mistakes, but he fought harder than I think he ever has before. He simply refused to lose the big points. So it was a great win nonetheless. It's good that he can struggle and still win. Most of my favorites fold under pressure. :scared:

Again ESPN annoyed the hell out of me tonight. I didn't come online so I could watch it "live," and they did their thing of skipping ahead in the match after a commercial break without even mentioning that they did it. Now that itself isn't so bad, but when they do that they're broadcasting the fact that they're editing the match to fit into their tiny little coverage window, so I knew that whoever won the first set won the match. Luckily it was Nole.

Expected result. :p

Novak plays so well in North America--he should stay here in the offseason. If he wants to train in the mountains again he can stay in Scott's pants---er, house.

There are mountains in NJ :armed: :rolls: In fact there is a mountain (singular) in my town. He can live in my pants while I live in Viktors

The little recap movie of the Miami Masters is fun to watch:

http://www.atpmastersseries.tv/page/Tournaments/Miami/0,,11444,00.html

It starts right up when you click on the link.

:p Almagro was so cute there.

That's what I read in the live scoring thread. I keep trusting the judgement of the people there. :help:

I didn't watch the match. I went to sleep at 2 am and it hadn't started yet.

I do see Roddick improves his all around game (even there are still holes there) and Nole amazing managed to block back many over 135 mph serves.

Also, why pretend they were broadcasting live at the beginning showing those warm up and with Ted and PMac blah blah blah there. It's like 8-10 minutes after the broadcast before they actually showed the match.

Today, I went out all day and returned home just before the match started and patiently wait for that stupid car race to extend another 10 minutes into tennis coverage (which otherwise we won't have any games being cut off in the first set) The most annoying part it, the race ENDED with 5 minutes left and they wanted to wait to interview that stupid driver who wrecked his and another car still racing after the checker flag.

And yes, after Nole won the first set, I knew he's going to win but it's still a nerve wrecking match.

Whoah I just found out ALL SORTS OF INFO about the "mountain" (which isn't a mountain at ALL) in my town.

Notable residents of the Mountain include: playwrights Eugene O'Neill and George Bernard Shaw, aviator Charles Lindbergh, patriot John Hart (signer of the Declaration of Independence), and the painter George Bellows.
In March of 1932, the Mountain was the scene of the notorious kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby. The Lindberghs had chosen the Mountain for their new home precisely because of its isolation and inaccessibility.

I never knew all those people lived there :D
