i think he'll be ok if he can get past hewitt. djokovic is really good, but i really think richard can beat him. but only if he plays his best.

which considering he just lost to verdasco.

:haha: Richie is more talented but right now he is not ready yet (physically and mentally). And no he won't play the match of his life at Cincy. Maybe at the US Open he'll do something big. :)

Richard COULD beat Hewitt, but will he? Slim chance. Don't think he can play 2 "matches of his life" in 2 months. I think these first round byes are really not an advantage for Richie. He needs to get match tough and build up his confidence but now it looks like he will have played exactly 2 singles matches since Gastad - not great prepration for the U.S. Open.

Well on the bright side, no more first round byes for a while. And he won't have many hardcourt points to defend NEXT summer. And he does seem to play better when no one expects too much of him.

Forgive my negative attitude but it's been a bad day at work and then tonight my home NFL football team just lost it's second straight preseason game and they were picked to make it to the Super Bowl. Sounds like Richie, only this is just preseason football, Richie is in the real thing.

I'd love for Richard to take revenge for last year's U.S. Open but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Anyway Richard will have first to beat Hewitt(probably).....and i just can t see him doing that with the way he is playing right now.
haha im sorry but richie is toast:) i hate being so pessimistic cuz im usually really optimistic but the draw is just terrible for richard, shame... if he decides to fight ala wimbledon, then maybe he can do something about the draw, but if he's as passive as in montreal then he's gone in the first round

if you think about it,his draw at Wimbledon was not very hard to say the least:apart Roddick(who is far from being one of the top players nowadays as Djokovic showed it yesterday) against who he struggled no end to win, which really good player did he beat??

i dont mean him getting to the SF, but the QF against roddick, being two sets and break down, and then coming back to win the match. just is overall performance in the final 3 sets in that match were great, if he can fight like that in cincy then great, although its obviously against the odds, bcz richard has apparently decided to play passively

Mahut was in good form at that time, just having played an excellent Queens, having beaten Nadal on the way and some of you predicted Richard's exit, Tsonga was not in bad form either....besides the draw is what it is, when it is hard and also when it is (seemingly) easy.....

i dont mean him getting to the SF, but the QF against roddick, being two sets and break down, and then coming back to win the match. ...

Exactly, that was a first for Richard and an important step for him. It did not imply, however, that he would win all the time from that match onwards.....

he did not lose all the time. He won two matches in Gstaad, where he obviously was not 100% motivated and now to Verdasco.

The more I read some of the posts here (not necessarily yours) the more I appreciate Richard's attitude: yes it was a match, he should have won, but life goes on.

And yes, Djokovic is more successful on court, speaks better English and is much more extroverted and fun, if that appeals to someone. It does not at all appeal to me. :p

Woohoo, yes, in Gstaad, he didn't lost two matches. That's why I mentioned the match "he should've won". However, I think it would've been a wise decision if he hadn't played there.

From the match today, Djokovic has more variety than Nadal. His serve is very good. Good volleys and great fh. Hits the right shots, incredibly smart on the court. Nadal looks like a lost cow there only knowing how to run around and play defensively. Trust me big diff between them. :o

Richie will play Hewitt tomorrow. Hewitt pulled out the tie break in the third. Hewitt had almost twice as many UE as winners and actually lost more total points but as usual played the important points better. I only saw the last set and was not impressed with Hewitt's play at all. But then the most impressive part of Hewitt's game is what you can't see - it's in his head. Maybe Hewitt's intensity will bring out the fire in Gasquet. Richard can beat Hewitt if he plays just half as well as against Roddick and shows up with the right attitude.

:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: He just retired!

You could tell that his hand was killing him almost from the start. But for the amazing shot around the netpost in the second game (and the MOST adorable grin right after the shot) he was hurting and you could see it on his face.

I know Richie will get blasted by many who question his attitude/fight but if you have ever tried to play with a blister right in the middle of your hand it is almost impossible to grip the racket, and if you can't grip a racket no matter how hard you try, your shots are not going to work. I just wonder why does he keep getting blisters in the same place????

The worst part is he has had basically NO preparation for the U.S. Open so I don't see him even defending his 4th round points at U. S. Open. Richard might be lucky to see Top 20 after USO. Oh well, pressure is gone and that's means NEXT summer he won't have many points to defend. It's too bad that he couldn't build on the high from Wimbledon.

We love ya Richie ! Stay positive!

Maybe. I was watching on Star Sports and the commentators said, ''If I was playing I wouldn't use [the blister] as an excuse. I would put it all behind me and just play my best'' or something to that effect. I think when Richard is bothered by something his whole attitude goes down. He needs to learn to not let things bother him, be more mentally/emotionally strong.

Whenever I hear about players bothered by blisters, I always think - what a wuss. But them I remember how painful some blisters can be. Depending on where the blister is it can be practically impossible to play.

Having said that I do agree that Richie seems to let EVERY LITTLE thing bother his play and thorws in the towel too quickly.

If he has his head together he should make it to 4th round and yes, actaully not a bad draw until then. But I was hoping he could get rid of the USO 4th round jinx he has has for the past few years and gain some points.

Maybe one of the mystery qualifiers with a HUGE serve will catch Federer sleeping in an early round -- one can dream... With the way Fed has been playing I would give Richie a pretty good chance agianst him BUT we all know that Fed kicks it up a notch at the Slams so I don't think we can expect a sloppy Fed by the 4th round of the USO.

Being the eternal optimist how about this scenario - Richie breezes through the first 3 rounds and is brimming with confidence, meanwhile Fed plays a few poor early round matches, hasn't found his rhythm and his confidence is low. With nothing to loose and no pressure Richie wins. It could happen   (Oh yea, forgot to add Richie comes back from down 2 sets and a break in the third ...)

"After retiring Tuesday in Cincinatti against Hewitt due to a blister on the right hand, Richard Gasquet picked up his racquet again on Sunday. "We're in New York" said his coach, Eric Deblicker. Maybe I'm not going to want to see this... Richard looks REALLY wild!! Hopefully he will settle down. He did break back but only because Roitman played a horrible game. And guess how many miles behind the baseline RIchard is playing AGAIN!!

Why is he playing one million miles behind the baseline? :retard:

He was really lucky that Roitman tightened up in that game. Really needs to step it up from here on out.

I agree. Now and then he plays a great point, some nice winners, but he surely likes to spend time far behind the baseline.

This American commentator on the TV feed I'm getting is really annoying. They showed the last game of the first and second sets of Richard's match. The first time round, he said Richard hasn't done much at slams and the woman commentating with him had to tell him about Wimbledon. The second time they showed the match, he repeated like a parrot what the woman had told him. He then added later that Federer named him as one of the young guns he is afraid of drawing. :retard:

I am surprised they didn't mention that he was on the cover of a tennis magazine at the age of 9.. Every time I follow matches on streamings, they repeat themselves with this
