If he did that, while still incorporating serving and volleying on the hard courts, he could definetly be in the top 100. lovetheunderdog 07-13-2007, 01:02 PM also, how good is aqeel khan? pakistani_power 07-13-2007, 03:50 PM yes he is definitly good on grass court!! if he play well on hard court he is move on top 100 inchallah aqeel khan hmm i dont know but i think he is not a very good player because he just play davis cup and future in india pakistani_power 07-13-2007, 03:52 PM lovetheunderdog i observe you like asian player lolzz for what ? you are asian ?? This is a significant event in the history of tennis of India and Pakistan that the flags of both countries will appear together at a Grandslam event. “We played together at ATP Challenger and Tour level last year and early this year but will be playing together for the first time at the Grandslam level. We are very excited and are keenly looking forward to show our skills on the Roland Garross Courts together” said the pair in New Delhi where they have been featuring in ATP Challenger Tournament. ImmzB 05-24-2008, 10:57 PM Aisam vows to put up good show in French Open LAHORE: Pakistan’s tennis star,Aisam ul Haq, after failing into top 100 in world wide ranking, is hoping to get a wild card for turning his long standing dream into reality for playing in Beijing Olympics August this year. “ Unfortunately I could not perform to my expected level in international events in recent months and instead improving my ranking slipped down at 148th after being at 125th in the beginning of this year “,he told APP here on Saturday before his departure to France for taking part in the doubles of French Open Grand Slam tournament. Aisam will be pairing India’s top tennis star Rohan Bopanna in the doubles and he will be appearing in the doubles only .Aisam skipped his participation in singles to avoid the work load to compete in the qualifying rounds. “ Some times it happens when things do not happen as per your planning and I am not frustrated with the outcome in recent competitions rather I look into future assignments with renewed zeal and confidence to demonstrated better game “,he said. He said it is his all time wish to represent Pakistan in Olympic and sadly he could not be in top 100 ranking to play directly and now he hopes that a wild card will help him to feature in the grant sports event. “ Pakistan Tennis Federation and Pakistan Olympic Association are making joint efforts to get a wild card for me and hopefully a decision will be taken by mid next month “,he said adding “ If I go to Olympics I will be putting my best performance to win a medal “. Aisam who is enjoying 67th ranking in doubles seemed optimistic when asked how he feels by going down in singles ranking. “ It is something to learn and I always learn from my defeats and it is way to improve further rather feeling dejected and I am pretty confident to get into 100 in singles by the end of this year “,he said. Aisam strongly denied fitness problems and said he is regularly featuring in ATP Challengers and he is not facing any such problems. “ Till November I will be playing non stop tennis in Europe and America and I am in good shape to produce desired results”,he said. When asked the reasons for not doing good in recent months, he said he is under the coaching of his new Brazilian coach and in most of the matches he could not sustain pressure at crucial moments thus losing the matches reaching quarter finals. “ Now I am more focused on my game plans and hopefully things will be better when I play in coming tournaments”,he said. After competing in French Open, Aisam will be playing back to back tennis by appearing in two ATP Challengers in England and Germany followed by participation in the singles qualifying rounds of Wimbledon championship. He will make a direct participation in doubles of Wimbledon. Then he will fly to America to play ATP tournaments in various parts of America in July returning home for a while to finalise the programme of his participation in other tournaments. “ By the end of this year I will be playing altogether 15 to 18 tournaments and I am confident to attain the ranking among top 100 which is my prime target besides further improving my doubles ranking to top 50. Aisam faces uphill task in improving his singles ranking as he would be defending 80 points in the coming months. Aisam and Bopanna will be facing the top seed world’s no 1 Bryan brothers Mike and Bob of United States. However, according to the confident Aisam, this is not to be seen as a tough draw but a challenging one. “Every match at the highest level of tennis in Grand Slams is a tough match. We have been thrown by luck into a highly challenging situation and that is how we are taking it. Both of us shall play our best tennis against the world’s topmost pair. “It’s not everyday that you get a chance to measure yourself against the best in the world and we are really excited at getting this opportunity,” said Aisam, who is already in Paris in preparation for the French Open Grand Slam Tennis Championship, which just started at the red clay courts of Roland Garros. ImmzB 05-31-2008, 11:49 AM Aisam and Bopanna spark India-Pakistan tennis diplomacy Saturday, May 31, 2008 PARIS: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna of India are determined to prove that a little tennis diplomacy can help thaw relations between their two rival nations. The duo, who are close friends and have played together in a host of mostly low-key tournaments since 2002, made their Grand Slam debut in the men’s doubles at the French Open on Thursday. Unfortunately the pair had the misfortune to come up against the world’s top pair, Mike and Bob Bryan of the United States, and crashed to a 6-1, 6-4 defeat. But they believe they have a wider role to play outside the narrow confines of the world’s tennis courts. “Everyone is happy to see that we are at this level. Rohan and I won five Challengers in 2007, reached three finals as well as a main tour final,” said Qureshi, who is 28, like his partner. “People in Pakistan know Rohan well and root for both of us. He is my best friend on the tour.” Lahore-based Qureshi hasn’t always had it so easy. In 2002, his controversial decision to play doubles at Wimbledon with Israel’s Amir Hadad was denounced by the Pakistan Tennis Federation who promptly threatened to ban him from the Davis Cup team. “I had a lot of problems with the federation back then,” recalled Qureshi. “But everyone got the message that you can’t mix politics, religion and culture into sport and they learned a lot from it. My federation is happy with the results that Rohan and I have had playing together.” Both men believe that the sporting thaw, which has already seen the two countries’ much-respected cricket teams undertake recipricol tours, will continue with them aiming to do their bit by playing at Wimbledon next month. “We have bilateral ties in tennis. India will come to Pakistan and then we go there at the end of the year,” he said. “Look at the Indian Premier League. There are many Pakistanis and Indians in the same team. It’s great. If cricketers can play together, there should be no problem for us.” Bopanna believes both the India and Pakistan public have responded positively to the partnership which was boosted when they finished runners-up at the main tour event in Mumbai in September last year. “People are pleased that the two different countries are playing together. We played in India and made the final,” he said. “We just get along so well.” Bopanna is in good company when it comes to potentially volatile partnerships; his Indian compatriot Sania Mirza courted controversy at Wimbledon in 2007 when she played women’s doubles with Israel’s Shahar Peer. Geo met with the Tennis Ace on his return to the country after playing in the singles and doubles event at the US Open. He is Pakistan’s top ranked singles and doubles players and last month he became the first Pakistani since Haroon Rahim in 1974 to represent the country in the final Grand Slam of the year. Although his stay was cut short as he was knocked out in his first round matches, Aisam is also confident of improving his ranking in the international arena aiming at least to reach the 100th position. Outcomes from his last month’s performances were positive, as he played two semi finals in Brazil and also qualified for the US open. When asked about his future commitments he said that I dream of becoming an Olympian and criticized the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) for not being able to get him a wild card entry in the Beijing Olympics last month. Though this year has not been outstanding for him, Aisam is very much determined for the future challenges and hopes the attitude of the PTF changes so that he could win more tournaments for the country. Raul 09-07-2008, 12:18 PM Hello there, this is my first post to Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi Thread :D I saw Aisam(or Aisma?), when he played Spain Challenger at Segovia last year. I knew considerably for a long time. I think that there are grass courts most in him as you say. Because the grass court is personally loved, the activity at the grass court season is expected. I think that this is the way it should be of tennis. It's like Stefan Edberg, Patrick Rafter, Todd Woodbridge, Pat Cash, Tim Henman. At the end, I think he is a very valuable player. The weather is fine weather. It was hot for this season. First of all, Cakl is far to the compliment with the athlete, fat person :tape: Aisam practice with Harel Levy before the match. The service game of the first set attacked the forehand side. This match ran and went out to the net only about seven times. Cakl's ground stroke was not so good. It might have been a game plan at the ground stroke center. The condition of serving was also good. The backhand slice overflowed in confidence, and was sharp. It misses it three match points at the second set 0-40 5-4. It decides it by one at 6-5. It overflowed in confidence and it concentrated through the game. Both players had dissatisfaction against the linesman and chief umpires. Because it is feeble-minded. C'mon Aisam. It's gonna be tough match for Aisam. Raul 11-21-2008, 08:17 AM Quarterfinal  (6)Aisam Qureshi (PAK) 6-4 4-6 4-6 (2)Hyung-Taik Lee (KOR) It was very cold today. It was common to all players and loosened the string. It is cold that much. I think that the establishment of the first serving is about 55 percent. The ace was few. It resolutely stuffed the net. The point was obtained adequately reading as 2 and 3 the course for the passing shot of Lee though there was not sharp of the volley. It positively stationed oneself at from the return ahead. The condition of the ground stroke was also good though there was no winner in the ground stroke so much. It did not reach the semifinal advancement by two another points. Aisam attacked playing a game overall and it was advantageous. However, it was an important point and concentration and the passing shot of Lee were the partings of the match. Aisam twisted the ankle at the time of the return trying at the third set and it fell. The influence seemed to have gone out in the following point. It worries about the state of the ankle. Anyway bad luck Aisam. Good luck next tournament at Toyota Challenger(indoor). At the end, the match in outdoor is very dangerous in this time. As you see, players of the high rank of the ranking are not participating in this tournament. That's normal thing :p Raul 11-25-2008, 09:54 AM Dunlop World Challenge, Toyota City Japan November 24-30, 2008 Singles First Round Woong-Sun Jun (KOR) vs (7)Aisam Qureshi (PAK) Doubles First Round (1)Frederik Nielsen/Aisam Qureshi (DEN/PAK) vs Roman Borvanov/Alexander Slabinsky (MDA/GBR) Jun have good grand stroke. Nathaliia 02-02-2009, 09:55 PM Yes, I made a long and lovely interview, but it's for the magazine and I can't post it now on the internet. No way he wins doubles here, he is in tragic shape, umpire made plenty of mistakes and Bubka got mad in super TB, almost broke a racquet (not like it would wake the linesmen up anyway) ImmzB 02-02-2009, 09:57 PM Oh ok thanks! Cant wait 4 the interview Qureshi in tragic shape?? How did he play today?? Nathaliia 02-02-2009, 10:02 PM He played horrible and he was lucky Auckland woke up at the end of the match. Well he still played better in the 2nd set and Super TB but maybe only because it was difficult to play even worse than he did in 1st set. (sorry for bad news, he's a great guy, I'd love him to win here) ImmzB 02-02-2009, 10:05 PM Hope Aisam improves his game for the QF! Not many Aces today.. from Aisam... Was Aisam happy after the match? Nathaliia 02-02-2009, 10:15 PM Very, very happy. They came back from a "long trip" in that match, as we say in Poland. And also they led with mini breaks in super TB, the other doubles equaled, and they managed to win it, very good thing. Bubka and Snobel were shouting at the umpire even after the match. ImmzB 02-02-2009, 10:18 PM Thats good Aisam was happy!! Bubka and Snobel still shouting at the umpire still after the match lool When will we be able to read the interview of Qureshi's? Maybe Aisam need for a change of pace. ImmzB 02-14-2009, 02:47 PM Aisam lost 7-5 5-7 4-6 2 Reister in the 1st round of Qualiying in Belgrade. Hope Qureshi gets into the Dubai Qualiying where he needs 5 withdrawls. Hope Aisam isnt in the Doubles because if he gets in the Dubai Q draw and he still is playing Doubles in Belgrade he wont be able 2 play Qualys!! Raul 02-14-2009, 11:58 PM Aisam lost 7-5 5-7 4-6 2 Reister in the 1st round of Qualiying in Belgrade. Hope Qureshi gets into the Dubai Qualiying where he needs 5 withdrawls. ImmzB 02-23-2009, 03:10 PM Yeah Not Bad Draw For Them Both ImmzB 02-24-2009, 07:41 PM Qureshi and Amritraj r 5th on court 1 tommorow-Wednesday. I've been waiting for ages! zainrocks 02-27-2009, 09:46 AM Aisam will not be playing any tournaments next week...cuz the Davis Cup tie starts on 6th March against Oman...Pakistan should breeze past Oman easily but Oman does have the home advantage.. zainrocks 02-27-2009, 09:48 AM Aisam/Amritraj squandered alot of break points in the first set...that's why they lost! ImmzB 02-27-2009, 02:49 PM Aisam/Amritraj squandered alot of break points in the first set...that's why they lost! They had 3 set points in the 1st set zainrocks 02-27-2009, 03:26 PM They had 3 set points in the 1st set Oh..I didn't know that...On TV, they were just showing the center court matches and same was with all the web streams so I couldn't watch the match...I only followed some of the live scores from the ATP site's widget ImmzB 02-27-2009, 04:18 PM Oh koool! GL Qureshi in the Davis Cup against Oman and the rest of the team (A.Khan, Jalil KHAN & Yasir KHAN) Aisam will next be on court in the Challenger in Japan after Davis Cup zainrocks 02-27-2009, 07:53 PM Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan are selected? Why did they miss out on Asim Shafik... ImmzB 02-27-2009, 09:58 PM Erm I think they that had a play off for those 2 spots as Qureshi and Khan already were gonna be there! zainrocks 02-28-2009, 12:01 PM I read in the newspaper that Oman wanted the tie shifted cuz Pakistan are too good on grass courts and Oman players aren't. I read that the father of Sara Mehboob (Pakistan Women's/Junior's no.1) told the Oman team about Pakistan's strengths on grass courts............But still, Pakistan has good enough players to beat Oman on any surface. zainrocks 02-28-2009, 12:04 PM Anyways, I think Aisam should start focusing more on doubles as he has a max. of 2-3 yrs of good tennis him...he's pretty old too...Aisam needs a partner who kinda hits the strong backhands/forehands from the baseline as that will balance Aisam's volleying skills...The problem with Bopanna/Qureshi was that they were both good volley players not very strong from the baseline. That's why they would lose too all the top teams... zainrocks 02-28-2009, 12:06 PM I saw 2 of Aisam's matches live with Lovro Zovko from the Belgrade Challenger...Good pairing but the Zovko is like all other Croatian big servers....big serve followed by slices! zainrocks 02-28-2009, 12:07 PM I'm sorry for writing too much but there are very few ppl with whom I can discuss tennis and Aisam...and I've been waiting quite a while for my account to be approved here on the forum..lol ImmzB 02-28-2009, 12:59 PM Dont worry man write as much as you want ImmzB 02-28-2009, 01:02 PM Yeah both Bopanna and Qureshi were strong at the net and not that strong from the Base Line. I would still have Qureshi with Bopanna as a doubles team i dont why but just them together- India Pakistan= IndoPak Express! ImmzB 02-28-2009, 01:05 PM Have u watched any Aisam Singles matches? If u havent I have one here from last year in the Challenger in Campos do Jordao, Brazil. Its a QF match against D.Silva http://www.tvtenis.com.br/ ImmzB 02-28-2009, 01:11 PM Qureshi is the 18th ALT for the Challenger in Bangkok, Thailand- Week 11 zainrocks 02-28-2009, 02:40 PM Oh cool... zainrocks 02-28-2009, 02:41 PM I think Bopanna and Aisam are not pairing up due to their own issues not because of political pressures cuz last yr...they teamed up only occasionally, though I wish they would've won the Newport final...would've been great for Aisam's career. ImmzB 02-28-2009, 03:26 PM Yeah it would of been great for Aisam winning his 1st ATP title and with Bopanna, it would of made headlines in Pakistan and India!! Aisam will win a Doubles Title! I Always fancy his chances in Newport in Singles & Doubles!! zainrocks 02-28-2009, 04:04 PM yeah....but post-Newport...Bopanna is back on track, teaming with Neimenen and Aisam's struggling since then... zainrocks 02-28-2009, 04:07 PM But the only thing I want from him and Aqeel is to blow Oman out of the court next week...if they can bt Oman then Pakistan will face Philippines or Hong Kong in the next round.
