The director of the tournament, Eugène Lapierre, told me yesterday that the WC will be determined tomorrow and added that Duclos and Bester were still possible selections

The Ratiwatana twins took a big step forward lately. A couple of months ago they struggled to get into challengers doubles MD. And when they did, it rarely had good results.

Can someone inform me on Milan Pokrajac? I admit I never heard of him before, yet he's done a QF coming from qualifying. Pretty impressive.

More information about Pokrajac :wavey:

Pokrajac improves his stock
19-year-old makes it to semifinals at Granby Challenger
PAT HICKEY THE GAZETTE
AGENCE FRANCE- PRESSE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS REPORT
GRANBY – Life became a bit easier for Milan Pokrajac this week.

The 19-year-old from Mississauga came into the $50,000 Natrel Granby Challenger tennis tournament as the lowestranked player in the main draw at No. 1,289 in the ATP rankings.

He’ll be considerably higher when the new rankings come out on Monday.

“With the win today, I’ll be somewhere in the 600s,” Pokrajac said yesterday after he claimed a spot in the semifinals with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Italian Stefano Ianni. “You need one good tournament to establish yourself.”

Pokrajac has played all of his tennis on the entry-level futures circuit and has been forced to qualify at most stops.

That means playing two or three matches before he gets a sniff at prize money.

“The new ranking should get me a direct entry into futures events and I may even be seeded at some tournaments,” said Pokrajac, who gets a chance to move even higher today when he faces two-time winner Takao Suzuki of Japan, who beat Horia Tecau of Romania 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.

The other semifinal pits second-seeded Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei against seventh-seeded Alex Bogomolov Jr. of the U.S. Lu advanced with a 7-6, 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Gary Lugassy of France, while Bogomolov outlasted Tobias Kamke of Germany, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

In addition to the points, Pokrajac will add some muchneeded cash to his bank account. Prior to this week, he had $930 U.S. in official earnings. He’s guaranteed $2,510 for reaching the semis here.

“I’m not making a living yet,” said Pokrajac, whose previous biggest paycheque was $290. His family supports him and, while Head provides him with rackets and string, he has to buy his own shoes and clothing.

But a mish-mach of clothing took a back seat to his serve. It’s his only effective weapon and he was broken only once, early in the first set. He got that one back, but was forced to play longer than he wanted to after losing the first-set tiebreaker.

“I didn’t play a very good tiebreaker and then we had a long third game in the second set,” Pokrajac said. “I was so tired after that game, but he was tired too and I think I was able to handle it better.”

Pokrajac broke Ianni, who is ranked No. 327, twice in each of the final two sets and put an exclamation point to his dominance by serving an ace on match point. Dancevic reaches first career semifinal: At Indianapolis, Ind., steady rain wreaked havoc at the ATP Indianapolis tennis championships, but Canadian Frank Dancevic took it in stride to book a breakthrough semifinal.

:rain: :rain: :rain: (thunderstorms) expected today in Granby :(

I'm very happy for him :D :bigclap:

When he start playing this year, the start was very difficult, couple of early loses, and now he wins the title :D

Takao's 13th Challenger title!? wow Congrats :yeah:

I wonder how far Takao can go internationally had he focus more on the ATP tour rather than in Japan. But I'm sure spending time in his own country will benefit Japanese tennis alot.
