Roddick, Blake! If their talent was as big as their mouths, they would be the best players ever...

Don't say that, Roddick actually played very good himself. Aggressive, really good volleys, good running and good pick-ups. He definitely isn't just serve on this surface; he looks so natural on it.

It just that Gasquet finally gave us a match worthy of his talent.

Roddick......sigh. Beating Fed has become such an obsession that his whole game is now build to reach that goal. That idiot kept attacking Richie's backhand, even though winners were flying past him from that wing constantly. He just can't seem to get that gameplan out of his system.

Well this is surprising. I really thought Richie was going to pull what he did vs. Hewitt at the '06 USO (i.e., come back from 2 sets down only to lose in the 5th).

Good on him. Too bad for Roddick.

What an absolutely breathtaking performance from Richard Gasquet - what can you say? For 2 sets and a half he looked out of it, and then for the next 2 1/2 he played virtuoso tennis - he played that ball like an instrument tuned to perfection. Wonderful shotmaking, immense serving, tactical brilliance, fantastic movement and plenty of stamina and energy in the tank to complete the fightback.

That last point may be the one I am most impressed with - 2 sets down to win in 5 in quite a draining match (not on the Djokovic-Baghdatis scale though).

But yes, magnifique. Je suis très heureux d'avoir regardé ce match.

I hope, I really hope, this was his coming of age match and he now starts to play more at this sort of potential because it's quite a beautiful thing to see.

A few niggles against Roddick's tactics, yes - he was approaching far too much to the backhand it was elementary stupidity - but Gasquet was ripping winners off the forehand too so it almost doesn't seem like it would have mattered.

Just a terrific contest in a day of terrific contests, in a tournament that, although badly rain-hit, has had a good number of terrific contests on the grass.

Andy played excellently for the first 2 1/2 sets....then started playing passively for some stupid reason. Allowing a guy like Gasquet to get his confidence back and for his backhand to catch fire is just stupid. I guess Andy figured that Richard couldn't keep it up, so he just kept playing the same way and hoping that Richard would cool down eventually....it didn't happen. Andy desperately needed to change tactics and play more aggressively in this match, he just didn't do it. Very bad loss. Congrats to Richard....a match like this is what we've all been waiting for from him.

Don't you just love how Roddick changes tactics depending on who's the player on the other side of the net : Against Fed at the AO when things went south he hit almost all his approach shot to Roger's forehand but did he make the same mistake with Gasquet ? NO absolutely not he learned his lesson and came in on his backhand.....:worship:

Gasquet's backhand is a thing of beauty, but I have no idea how Roddick managed to lose this from 2 sets and a break up.

It seems to me that once Roddick loses a TB, he loses confidence in his own game, and things just go downhill from there. After losing the second TB, you could see his whole demeanor just change -- he didn't seem to believe he could win any more.

Well I have always said that when a match goes the distance, andy is always at a disadvantage because his game rotates around his serve so much. And when your serve takes so much out of you, then your confidence in it wears down when you physically tire. (Some roddick fans LOLed at this but I think others do agree ;) )

And Gasquet has to play at 12 noon tomorrow !!!!

July 6 (Reuters) - Order of play at Wimbledon on Saturday
(prefix number denotes seeding)
Centre Court Men's semi-final (1200)
1-Roger Federer (Switzerland) v 12-Richard Gasquet (France) Women's final (not before 1400 )
18-Marion Bartoli (France) v 23-Venus Williams (U.S.)

Court One Men's semi-final (1200 )
2-Rafael Nadal (Spain) v 4-Novak Djokovic (Serbia)

That is I think enough time to recover. Gasquet has not played that much tennis this tournament. This was his first 5 setter, and he did not seem fatigued. He will be ready to go at noon tomorrow.

Spare a thought for Djokovic, though. He will dance for rain tonight.

When was this? Not his official post-match press interview, right?

I think it was during the ESPN interview. I watched it early in the morning like at 7 am PT.

I think they are referring to this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQOOunGfPOM

nono it was when Roger went into the espn studio during the first set of the Gasquet-Roddick match

That he will have to play Gasquet in the semis, then he ralized, that the Richard/Roddick match had not even started and he added "or Roddick" ;):o

they asked him about the match and he said he's always nervous to play Andy but that he thinks that Gasquet will pull of the upset

er..are u watching nbc? If you are, then what you say is incorrect.

he said rich has the "tools" but he thinks rod will prevail because of his experience on grass.

Allez :yeah:

Loved the post-match interview afterwards, given at 200 mph "Yes my backhand was very dangerous in the fourth and fifth set and I had nothing to lose after two sets and it is fantastic to be here and I hope to enjoy it on Centre Court..."

Roddick is a amateur really his net approaches on Gasquet backhand were absolutely pathetic I wonder if he has a brain?

Roddick's hit maybe 10 or 15 FH's all match long that had any depth on them. It's amazing how bad his Fh is now.

On another note, this match was fun to watch because of the fast pace. No toweling, ball bouncing, time wasting, etc. They just got on with the tennis.
