Juan Carlos Ferrero becomes only the third player...

To take a set outright (no TB'er involved) from Federer at Wimbledon since his reign began in 2003.

Fish--2003
Roddick-2004

Federer had played 57 consecutive sets without losing one outright. He had won at leat 6 games in every one of those sets. Ferrero served really well in the 2nd.

Vamos Mosquito.

I can't believe I'm watching the same player who dropped the first two sets against Hajek and was totally sucking it up. Now he's on Centre Court on the second Friday at Wimbledon, 1 set all vs. Fed?

Federer isn't that far ahead of the field where he will never lose a set outright on grass. His record is still insanely good.

He's going to lose a set but I hope he gets it together. He seems pretty rusty.

I am starting to belive the grass is seriously fcked up this wimbledon. Ferrero is succesfully grinding on grass, it is absolutely insane to watch this.

They want nadal in the final because they want someone they think is more exciting for tennis.

JCF also the first player in a long time to get to break point on two different serve games of Fed's in the 1st set. I think Kiefer may have done that in 2005 but I'm not quite sure. Roddick is for sure the last player to do it in 2004 since he broke Roger twice in the 2nd set.

It's just an interesting stat. It's not like anyone's panicking.
I'm glad that Ferrero's putting up a fight and not going down in straights.

Set outright i.e. without going to a TB'er.

So losing a set in a tie break doesn't count? :spit:

Ferrero played horribly in that set. :o But at least he got the one.

Of course it counts, nobody said it didn't. I'm digging into the stats here. I find it amazing that he played two entire Wimbledons and half of a another one without losing a set outright meaning he won at least 6 games in every set he played.

This match reminds me of Federer-Canas. Ferrero is just grinding like hell and sometimes hitting a hard forehand to surprise Federer.

Even on grass grinding is the answer against Federer.

Even on grass grinding is the answer against Federer.

It's the only answer on any surface.

Grinding troubles Federer when his timing is off.

His timing is off a little but it's over for the mosquito.

Well it was one of the worst sets of tennis I've ever seen. Both of them were hitting balls left, right and long. At least Federer got a bit better in the next two sets.

Nadal v Federer in the final will be the final proof that men's tennis is a farce.
