I found it strange as well, but at first I understood it as if Bandermann ( :o ) asked "und dann? und was passiert dann?" referring to how he is going to celebrate his birthday?

I hope there was no hidden message in it which means he is unsure about playing Newport because you can maybe understand it differently, too

Lets not get too far ahead, but given he would make the semi and further who could record it and make a file to download for us poor ones in Europe, Germany or whereever, where there will probably absolutely nothing on TV? Do you know somebody? Or is somebody reading?

the tournament website says FOX will show semis and final live. You can watch some Fox channels via TVants. I hope the right one is among them. But the Tennis Channel website says that they will show the Semis and the final. Tennis Channel could be watched via TVU player but not anymore. Maybe next week again. I hope for a livestream.

you never know what Spadea can do. He is always either very good or very bad... I hope he will not have his "very good" day. And we still don`t know about Kiwi. Wimbledon was unbelievable but we shouldn't forget that Newport is only the 3rd tournament after his comeback. He only played 4 official matches yet. I think he is able to win this tournament but I am sure there will be some ups and downs still so he could have a bad day... I am trying not to expect too much of him yet.

I think Capdeville is immediately one of the better players. I saw him last year on fast courts and he made a pretty good impression on me despite his lower ranking and I even enjoyed him playing. But I haven't heard much of him the last few months, so I guess he was struggling a lot with his form.

Capdeville plays challengers most of the time. And he has no good results on grass. Didn't even play Wimbledon. If Kiwi is as good as we saw him in Halle and Wimbledon he will beat Capdeville... but as I said.. it's only his 3rd tournament... everything can happen...

He played the qualies this year in Wimbledon and lost in the final round to Muller in 5 sets. He's a threat to Kiwi because unlike other chileans he's very good on fast surfaces. That being said Kiwi should win it if he's in good form.

Capdeville played pretty well in quallies. I watched quite a bit of him, but he shouldn't cause Kiwi too much trouble I don't think.. because it really doesn't take too too much to look good playing Muller.

I didn't even register to bet365 yet, but it should work by doing the following:

1) If you can't get the direct stream link by simply right clicking, find it out by using a tool such as URLHelper
2) Record the stream with WMRecorder or something similiar
3) If there's a DRM protection, remove it with FU4WMver13

Capdeville def. Kiwi 7-6(3) 4-6 7-5

Bad news, especially since he choked and was serving for the match already. Then got broken twice

Seems as he has to go through all kinds of ups and downs on his way back... but not totally unexpected at the current stage. But still disappointing! :sobbing:

Looks like it wasn't his best serving days, judging from the stats. Too many double faults and low serve percentage.

Can somebody who watched the match say something more about it?

I was at Newport watching and it was very painful to watch, Kiwi didn't seem to have any fire even when he missed easy shots or when he played great ones. He was neither pumped or pissed off just very uninterested.
He started well 2-0 in the first but got immediately broken back (he got irritated with a ball boy who kept throwing his towel on the floor, the ball boys were really untrained and incompetent in Newport), he did have 2 set points in the first at 4-5 15-40 but lost them with 2 easy bh ue in the net.

In the second it wasn't until 3-3 that he played really well and hit nice winners and attacked the net to win 6-4, I thought he was going to win easily at this point.

In the third he never played well even when he was up 4-2 and then 5-3 and he clearly gave up on mp although he had an easy passing shot he tried to hit a lob with no conviction.

Positives: He had incredible touches at the net, he almost won the point everytime he went to the net. The second part of the second set when he seemed full of life he was clearly the superior player.

Negatives: see above, basically almost lifeless and lacking fight for most of the game.

Kudos to Capdeville he served really well in key spots and played incredible rallies (even kiwi applauded 2 of them).

I took pictures I will post them later tonight in the pictures thread.

In an interview, the Pilot Penn (New Haven) tournament director Anne Worcester mentioned that Haas asked for one of the Wild cards and that Kiwi "is on the next-in list and could also receive a wild card". Other candidates are Safin, Baghdatis and Philippoussis. She also mentioned that Ferrer and Grosjean are also options. There are 4 WC to be handed out.

I thought that, too, until a couple of weeks ago. But then Volandri got an SE to Hamburg although he was not in the entry list for qualies. (And I've just seen the Indianapolis draw: Kiwi in fact got an SE there.)

Stupid me. For some reason I thought that he still needed to win the SF before getting the SE.
Hopefully he isn't too tired after this week and will play in Indy.

Stepanek hasn't been that great those past weeks, but you never know.
Kiefer leads the H2H with 3:1. The last match took place at the US Open 2005 where Kiwi was down 0:2 before winning in 5.

He is writing on his homepage that he woke up with knee pain. I guess for some injuries it is possible that the pain comes after it happened, but maybe it is just a swelling due to the hardcourt transition and because he wasn't used to this stress on his legs anymore. And hopefully no real demage to the knee like a meniscus, ligament injury or whatever.

Nicolas posted the following on his website:

Absage für Indy
Es war eine große Chance, aber Nicolas Kiefer zog es vor, auf seinen Körper zu hören. So sagte er seine Teilnahme in Indianapolis nach ärztlichem Rat ab. Die Diagnose lautete „Entzündung im Knie und Flüssigkeit“. Er wird die nächsten Tage in Indy bleiben und sich behandeln lassen: „So bitter es auch ist - die Erfahrung der letzten Jahre lehrt mich, dass es so richtig ist.“

It's an inflammation in his knee and liquid. He is going to stay the next days in Indy and get treatment there. He said: "As bitter as it is, the experience of the last years show me that I made the right decision."

Get well soon Kiwi :)

I have the feeling Tursunov is an opponent that could fit him well if he is playing normally good and if Tursunov is not playing like in the first set against Haas at Wimbledon (insane tennis).

And of course this is better than one of the big players immediately ;)

Yappa
08-03-2007, 10:59 PM

His game today wasn't so good.Tursunov was playing great at first but what killed him is his double faults.Nicolas had problems with his first serve.in the first set he was more hiting from the baseline but then,he woke up and he was attacking more and the russian didn't know what to do.when kiwi was attacking,he was winning points but not by staying at the baseline.he needs to improve his serve.

this article says

The ATP took the first step when, alongside partner Tennis Properties Ltd., it launched ATP Masters Series Television in the spring. The service, which was launched at a cost of $9.99 per Masters Series event or $39.99 for a season pass, initially only offered match highlights and interviews but was later expanded to allow matches to be broadcast live – but only in selected countries. Doubles matches, however, are offered free of charge worldwide.

I don't know. I'd like to have a good quality stream without any buffering. The SOPcast stream, which I used yesterday, buffered quite a lot and video and sound were out of synch. And the last time I used bwin - thanks to a trick, you could access it without being registered - the stream wasn't always running that well either.

Blake withdrew in Montreal with a torn stomach muscle and I doubt that he is 100 % fit again now. But first comes Safin who hasn`t won much this year. I like the draw. Hannover lost the first match of the season at home... I am sure he was in a bad mood lol

Blake withdrew in Montreal with a torn stomach muscle and I doubt that he is 100 % fit again now.

I didn't even know that. :| Okay, so Kiwi's chances have gone up slightly in my mind. :p

Good job at least winning the match in two sets! :D :)

I'm not that confident if his next opponent is a fit Blake. Why? Because Safin made horrible and deciding errors from time to time in many important situations and I think that Kiwi has to improve his overall play because against a good opponent, he has to earn these points much more.

But it's good so far and this win should make him Top 200 again!

He's unlikely to get wild cards for the big tournaments, therefore he had to use his protected ranking for the Masters and will have to do so for the US Open.

Neely
08-15-2007, 09:48 PM
Damn :banghead: It would not have been completely out of reach, he was serving well for the most part, but he could not convert enough balls from the baseline. And also not punish often enough shorter balls of Blake. Blake was being a bit more aggressive in the rallies mostly and he got the deciding breaks in each set (an early and a late one).

Now after Nadal and Youzhny lost, his quarter would have opened up quite nicely :sobbing:

Lets hope he is improving that soon! :yeah:

kiwi10is

he asked for a wildcard there and they decided only today that Ferrer will get it. So maybe Kiwi will play qualy there? Qualy draw comes out at 9 pm local time. So we will know tomorrow... Ancic even refused a wildcard for New Haven and prefers to play quali just to get more matches before US Open. Maybe Kiwi does the same. This would give Abercrombie & Fitch more time to fill their stores before Kiwi comes lol

His first round opponent isn't that hard, since he plays against Spadea, but after Montreal (Djokovic) and Cincy (Blake), for the 3rd time in a row a top 10 player is waiting in the 2nd round.

Nikolay Davydenko RUS (4)
vs.
Jesse Levine USA

Nicolas Kiefer GER
vs.
Vincent Spadea USA

Well, if Kiefer wants back in the top 20, then he also needs to be able to defeat the top guys from time to time, so now is the chance to do it.

Auf gehts, Kiwi. :bounce:
should be a nice match against Spadea

Neely
08-22-2007, 07:08 PM
Spadea should be considered a must-win match for his standards, and the best about facing a high seed in the 2nd round is that it will be Davydenko (and not Nadal, Djokovic or Federer). Davydenko in good form is a constant machine which will not give him too many errors, but maybe they match up well and the 6-1 6-1 win for Kiwi two years ago wasn't entirely Davydenko's fault but also Kiwi's strength :)

kiwi10is
08-22-2007, 07:46 PM
First comes Spadea! He is sometimes very good and sometimes very bad. You never know... Let's hope for a "not very good day" for Spadea and a good 1st serve day for Kiwi!!
Beating Davydenko at US Open after beating Tursunov and Safin in Montreal and Cincy would give him a ticket to Moskow for sure!

Beating Davydenko at US Open after beating Tursunov and Safin in Montreal and Cincy would give him a ticket to Moskow for sure!

At first I wasn't thinking about the DC at all. Instead, I thought that you were being sarcastic and talking about the Indoor Event.

But more seriously, I am fairly certain that a win against Davydenko wouldn't increase his chance to play DC. This year's best german clay player was Kohlschreiber, while Kiefer didn't play any matches on that surface. And replacing the dreadful clay player Haas is out of the question.
But you probably just meant him being part of the team, instead of actually playing.

kiwi10is
08-22-2007, 09:43 PM
Kohlschreiber... hm... he didn't win much lately. He was top in Munich but everything else was not that good. No doubt that he is the best claycourt player we have right now. We still don`t know what's up with Tommy's injury. Kiwi beat Tursunov and Safin. We don't know of course how he plays on clay. There are always 5 players in the team while only 4 can be nominated. I think Kiwi deserves to be in the team at least as No 5. Mayer and Becker were not as good lately. But Patrik Kühnen already decided in Belgium that Kiwi will not be part of the team this year. So I think he can beat Tursunov, Safin and Davydenko and will still not get a chance.
