:worship: Smart play by Andy. Boy is showing great poise this Wimbly. This was more Roddick playing well than Pauli choking, IMO ... tho' PHM helped a little.

Bring on Frenchie #2, whoever that may be.

the usual monthly choke from PHM in that 3d set

Paulo has so many weapons, more than Roddick actually, he just can't keep it together mentally. This is what separates talent from stardom.

PHM got tight but Roddick did serve 2 bombs at 3-6 down...He should have won the 3rd set point though :(

Roddick is so avarage, he just stays back playing defense and let even some one like Mathieu play him around until he hits an error, may be good enought against Mathieu but does he seriously think his ultradefensive moonballing and poor slices will be enought against Federer?

May be there is someone more prone to choking than PHM, but right now I can't think of any worthy candidates...

Choking is misused by many fans for whenever their players fail to take advantage of a lead, which is normal that it will happen sometimes, as your opponent may be playing better than you at any given moment. PHM however is the very definition of choking, whenever he is in a lead, however big it may be he only has a very small chanse to take advantage of that lead, most often because his opponent was simply playing bad tennis too or that he was lucky.

Roddick affirmed how strong mental player he is. On the other hand Mathieu is a choker. Winning a tie-break from 0:5 down, happens very rarely.

Another tiebreak win on the trot :yeah:
Thing is when playing vs Verdasco or PHM t's just bettr to keep the ball in play and let them self destruct. Though from QF and onwards he will have to be more agressive.

Yeah right, he can barely hit a winner from the baseline (not counting after serve) when playing against Federer or Nadal.

Mister Fernando Verdasco, of course.

Eg: Odds for Roddick to win both 3rd sets against these two players in their matches in this year´s W, reached odds as high as 260/1 combined yet they managed to beat the odds, masters of chokejobs :help:

Excellent, Andy. It's so nice to see Andy holding his nerve and not panicking when he's down as he used to do thoughout 2006. But he's still not playing nearly as well as he did at the AO. I hope he is pacing himself and plans to blast off on all cylinders when/if he gets to the semis. Gasquet looks to be playing very well for once, so he could pose some problems before then.

Andy's win today makes for a nice little birthday present for John Roddick. :bdaycake:
