monfils played terrible tennis, with his mental focus never in the game. This kid needs to be tamed or he'll never accomplish anything.

Unless a player has patience and nerves of steel, he will get increasing frustrated with these frequent rain delays. I don't blame Monfils for not being focussed.

Now Davydenko has longer to be bored. :)

He played terribly from the first point, when there was a fine line for both players.

Mentally, Baghdatis is just as frail.. Should Nadal be out today by some accident, I don't see whom the grasscourt clown can't beat here on his way to finals..

I like Kolya and Ferrero but they both reaching 2nd week at Wimby shows how the baseline game is dominating the only space left for serve and volley, quick reflexes and returns :tears:

Well, Kolya operates further up the baseline than that wimpy ballpusher Monfils, who is camping 10 ft behind the baseline. So it's only right Kolya advances.

Monfils tactis were embarrasing. he was trying to play like Canas just pushing the ball back, how is that going to work again the most consistent ball striker in the game?

No surprises here. Everyone knows Monfils plays without a brain.

What I see is that Davydenko has kept his RG form. He might be the 3rd best player on hardcourt this summer.
I'm not sold on Nadal off clay. Davydenko might be the second best player in the US this summer.

US hardcourts is a different ballgame, a world of big servers and flat hitters - much faster surface than Wimbledon grass.. I don't think that Davydenko will be a match for guys like Blake, Roddick, Berdych, Gonzalez, Djokovic on US hardcourts.. Last year he was lucky, very lucky to reach semis, only courtesy of Safin's taking out all he could from Haas before losing to him in R16. And Haas didn't have a day of rest after that.. I don' think Davydenko is Top 5 on hardcourts. Maybe not even Top 10.

I really doubt it he will be the third best harcourt player in the summer

but he could be in the top 10 for sure

Monfils (from what I saw of the match) was trying to outgrind Davydenko on the baseline. :help:

Anyway - Go Davy :bounce:

I hope you are right... it's about time for Kolya to show what he's made off. He's on the pick of his age/game and might surprize everyone by winning a big tournament.

You are surely brave to compare WTA tennis and ATP tennis..

I remember last year match of Blake vs Andreev. Andreev was killed. His huge topspin forehands looked slomo comparing to Blake's flat stuff.. I also remember seeing Nadal playing Roddick three years ago.. After Roddick served for the first time, at the moment Nadal started moving his racket the ball was already hitting the wall behind him.. It's super-fast , balls bounce high, flat-hitters have enough margin for error. Players like Federer or Gonzalez or Tursunov or Berdych need only one forehand per point. They got that forehand - it's gone..

It's not faster than grass. It's the kind of even bounce that Davydenko can get into a good rhythm . And he's never been better. It's also perfect for Safin.

Too fast for him. He'd take Rebound Ace any day..

It's just right for Safin.

This was incredibly disappointing to see - was hoping based on his previous two wins (admittedly against less illustrious foes) and his new coach that Monfils would play this match with better tactics - if not actively attacking then at least from closer to the baseline :o Not a Davy fan but kudos to him for advancing on a surface he has little affinity for and at a tournament he finds 'boring' :hatoff:

I can just see it at the award ceremony at the end.

"This is the stupidest looking trophy in all of tennis. At least my dog will get use out of it."

The perfect way to treat Wimbledon.

They mess with the players so much that they players should retaliate.
