Nalby was just too hungry today - not for the win but the bagel. Marcos - being the friendly guy that he is (and knowing a thing or two about that insatiable hunger himself) - obliged.

There was no loser today on court.

No one could (other than those that were there). Word is Baghdatis played the match of his life, hitting lines the whole match, serving like Sampras, at times Borgesque. However, no one apart from the 9 people who were there will ever know about it.

not funny though

For a Nalbandian fan of course it isn't funny.

In all seriousness it's a real shame that a match pitting two really talented and interesting players was played on an outside court. For someone like Nalbandian who struggles to get motivated playing on a court being watched by the caretaker and his dog probably wasn't a very positive motivation.

Wish we at least knew if Baggy played well for first 2 sets. Beyond that, what the hell is up w/Argentine Tennis Players? Can any of our compatriots from there weigh in? Coria, Gaudio, Nalby, Puerta....I've never seen one nation going from Best to Toilet in 2-3 yrs like this.

Coria, Gaudio, Nalby, ....I've never seen one nation going from Best to Toilet in 2-3 yrs like this.

As I see it Nalby will retire in two years, Gaudio in one year, Coria is already retired and Cañas who knows maybe he has left two in the tank. That was our golden generation and will end pathetically and underachiving. Coria and Gaudio with brain problems and David with serious lack of comitment to tennis and overweighed and Cañas and Puerta with drug ban stigma until they retire. Pity

In two years the most will be bandwagoning toward other sport so it will not be a big deal .

BTW: I don't have big hopes in Of Pony (Del Potro)

true, even Nalby could retire earlier
in some years Zeballos ,Mayer and Berlocq will be the best players from Argentina :help: :tape:
its sad our Best players underachieved so much by different problems.
Coria:doping, injuries , mental problems and serve.
Gaudio:severe mental problems,very low self-esteem.
Nalbandian:injuries,overweight .
Cañas:injuries,doping

look at spanish players like Corretja,Costa,Ferrero and Moya, they acheived way more things than those argentines but they have about
the same level of play.

I'd say the Argentines you named are even more talented than the Spaniards you listed. It is sad what has happened to those players over the last 4 years or so. Nalbandian, especially. He should have won 4 or 5 majors by now, and should be a major rival of Federer on all surfaces. What a rivalry that could have been.

Yeah, maybe not Gaudio. Though he didn't overachieve any more than Costa. And Alex I can't close a match even though my opponent is puking his guts up Corretja? Please.

And I'm by no means saying Ferrero or Moya are untalented hacks. I think they are quite talented, and seem like great people. But they probably achieved as much as they should have with their talents, or close to it anyway.

Marcos!!! :woohoo:

Why is everyone badmouthing David? :( Since none of us watched the match we don't know what actually happened. And if, as jayjay wrote in his post (below), Marcos played out of his mind then he was just too good to beat on this day. I hope he keeps this up and goes farther than last year .

Seriously, it's bad for tennis that 2 fatties like this can be top 15. It's also not very good for tennis that the current transitional world #1 the arrogant Swiss doesn't have 6-pack abs. He's pretty flabby actually. He's only got good calves and forearms.

Sad but true

and yes I forgot to post about the injuries.

Also, let's not forget about Squillari and Zabaleta who began this generation.

We will never have anything even close to that, talent-wise and amount.

But hey, there is always Los Pumas to be proud of even if they don't win. They are real sporting men and would go to war for their flag. :D

It is more than a little ironic that out of all the Argentine players of his generation he was the only one to get a slam and it seems as if it will remain that way.

Since you are a fan of Federer, I am surprised that you can not appreciate the pure beautiful stroking ability of both of these tennis players. And with Marcos- who had good tennis smarts. I guess if it is all about physiques their play should not be appreciated. But if they do have the talent, body fat count or not- why sniff away their play?

If you are being sarcastic- I have no idea since sarcasm does not translate on the internet.

I'm sure most of the people who call david and marcos "fatties" are fatter than them, so they should stop blaming them... also who care about that ? Since they play good tennis it doesn't matter...

World Beater
07-04-2007, 04:26 AM
Short of federer and berdych, Marcos' game is tailor made for grass. He is an explosive mover who can hit shots on the run. Has a very good serve and hits a clean ball. He can really get under the ball on fh side and whip it, so the low bounces dont really trouble him. Great return and good shot selection. He needs to improve his conditioning because ive seen him cramp too many times. Very good athlete though.

Nalbandian needs to get his focus back on tennis if she every wants to be the top 5 player he should be once again.

he has been one of the fittest players on tour when he was young so he is capable of turning it around.
