It is just so annoying to always have to deal with them when they televise tournaments. And at wimbledon this year, Darren Cahill is working on espn?? I dislike him... he''s all into nationalist,, go aussies, they will win..

But of course the always Roddick-loving Patrick McEnroe has to be mentioned, he is always drooling over Andy's matches. John McEnroe is okay, he can be self-centered, but he's okay... Cliff Drysdale is alright, except sometimes he's really ignorant. Dick Enberg, I used to like him, but hes just all into Sharapova, "She's so pretty, blah blah blah.."

What happened to Tim_______- (i forget), he was pretty clueless regardging tennis, but he didn't obsess over one player.

As for the women, Mary Carillo has been good and bad. Sometimes shes very analytical and smart, but she can be obnoxious. Maryjoe fernandez, well shes pretty bad. Pam Shriver i like, she's been gone though, she has children now...

Tracy Austin is disgusting, another person who adores sharapova... among Sometimes Carillo and maryjoe.

---Someone get rid of Chris Fowler, and Brad Gilbert when he's on.. Thank god most of the time he's coaching murray.

ANY ONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY?

Andrew castle on the BBC doesn't stop touching himself whenever Roddick & Nadal come on court, and a shit commentator to boot.

I don't like Greg Rusedski on the BBC, always seems a little arrogant and is one of these player commentators that thinks they can colour commentate. His voice is also rather uncomfortable to listen to and when he criticises good, solid players...well...you sometimes think he's not really in a position to do so.

The ESPN commentators suck, they are just bitter underachievers. Its really hard to listen to them drooling over pova, roddick and roger.Tennis is more enjoyable when the volume is muted.

I liked Darin Cahill ok (he's better than Brad Gilbert) until I just got HDTV and now I can't bare to look at him--up close he looks just like Dennis Kucinich (http://kucinich.us/). Too weird.

http://kucinich.us/files/images/congress_war.jpg

I don't like Patrick Mcenroe, he's a little fanboy. Cliff Drysdale is ok, he's got a pleasant voice, and is pretty fair to all of the players, plus he has nice ties. I hated Johnny Mac as a player, but I like him as a commentator because he's honest and doesn't get all hot and bothered by any of the players (other than himself) like Patrick does. I don't like anyone named Dick (BTW Sharapova has a mustache on HDTV--its kinda scary--couldn't watch today, it was all close ups of her mustache. It was disturbing--now I see why Tojo was horrified when he was asked if she was pretty).

I HATE Mary Carillo--I wish she would fall down a well and not come out again. She is so far up Rafael Nadal's butt, it drives me crazy--and she should leave Roger and his flashy new man-purse thing alone. She wishes she could pull of a man-purse thing as well as he does.

What is Pam Shriver's purpose? To harass people on Henman's Hill? Mary Joe is ok--but she looks really bad in HD--HD is like having God-vision--there no where to hide.

I don't care about Chris Fowler one way or the other--he doesn't announce he's just there, not sure why.

Brad Gilbert looks like the homeless man who lives at the bus stop by my house. He also looks like he has been going crazy on the scones--He's a little fatty now. And I swear he is has worn the same rumpled outfit for like four days in row.

And other than that all I have to say is that I HATE Mary Carillo.

Rusedski really has a gift -- he comes across as a smug, arrogant ass even when he's obviously trying to be just the opposite.

My pet annoyance though is with Jimmy Connors. He's a good commentator and obviously has a huge knowledge the game, but why does he insist on going "MMMM" every time someone hits a winner? Winner "MMMM", winner "MMMM", winner "MMMM"... it drives me nuts. :tape:

Jim Courier is the best.
Tood Woodbridge is the worst. His joke to Nadal after his match was just painful to watch.

I hardly have such bad commentators that I really can't stand it. I find some better than others, but surely can it suck a lot if you have SUCH annoying commentators as some of you described it  Hopefully there is a 2nd audio option available then.

stick to gmtv andrew.

Peter Fleming is the best commentator out there, Leif Shiras (spelling mistake maybe) is pretty good too, barry cowan the same. Petchey is garbage, commentates every Murray match and just kisses his behind.

here we have one bulgarian commentator who is pathetic. I keep on sending him e-mails with the right pronounciations of tennis players' names but somehow he keeps on saying Bedrych instead of Berdych and there are about million other examples. He also likes to use some original vocabulary. For example, he said that one guy played sovereign.

I don't mind any of the BBC commentators that much to be honest. I probably like John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors more than the others.

Ooh another chance to talk crap on commentators.

Ok first the good ones: McEnroe and Courier are brilliant. They know what they're on about, they add humour to it, and you don't wish they'd just shut up. Lleyton Hewitt did a 20 minute commentry from Wimbledon a few days ago, and I must say that I was impressed with him.

Ok now the really bad ones: John Newcombe. The guy drives me insane. The Aussies can't do anything wrong by him (especially Hewitt). I remember the US Open Federer/Hewitt final. Newcombe said before the match 'Federer's got this match in the bag' or something to that effect. During the match when it was obvious that Hewitt was going to lose, he said 'Hewitt's down now, but great players bounce back and he'll win'. Once the match was over, Newcombe said 'I can't believe that Hewitt lost!' And to top it off, in another match, him and another commentator couldn't figure out who won Roland Garros in 2003. I believe they actually had to look it up. Other bad commentators are Navratilova, I mean, what the hell? the woman is awful. She can't do anything but speculate on who would be a good couple. All the Aussie commentators are pro british, american and aussie (or Federer). It's inconceivable that the commentators will side with anyone not from these nations. They're so biased. One of the best things about going to the tennis and seeing it live is that you don't have to put up with commentators.

I have to say, my favourite colour commentator is probably Mats Wilander. He just comes across as a really nice and easygoing guy. :)

colour commentator?
A color commentator (colour commentator in Canada), sometimes known as a color analyst, is a member of the broadcasting team for a sporting event who assists the play-by-play announcer by filling in any time when play is not in progress. It is North American terminology. The color commentator provides expert analysis and background information, such as statistics, strategy and injury reports, on the teams and athletes, and occasionally light humor. Color commentators are often people who used to play and/or coach the sport that they broadcast.

agreed, he knows his stuff, the only decent commentato we have. John newcombe and john alexander are easily the worst commentators i have ever heard in almost every sport.

Anyone here Lleyton hewitt do a little bit of commentary the other day? I thought did an alright job.

John Newcombe really annoyed me last year during Hewitt's matches, but I didn't watch the Hewitt v Bolelli match so I haven't heard as much of his commentating yet. I think he is ok when commentating other matches though. Fred Stolle usually doesn't have anything interesting to say but at least he isn't too annoying.

On the other hand, John Alexander is awful. It was particularly obvious during Davis Cup against Belgium when they kept switching between commentators, and everytime Alexander was back, he had nothing of note to say in comparison. Roger Rasheed is pretty good in comparison. I agree Woodbridge is good.

But I think the worst Australian commentator by far is Wally Masur. He only commentates for Fox Sports. I can't stand him at all. During the French Open, he kept going on and on everytime Federer played saying how he should be experimenting and using his variety in preparation for Nadal and mentioned this every few minutes. I can now enjoy Federer matches more now that he isn't commentating them. Easily the most repetitive commentator there is. After every match I watch with him commentating, there is one particular point that he makes over and over again that sticks with me.

I thought Hewitt was ok, but that wasn't really commentating. It was more like talking about various tennis-related matters. He did come off very well, but not really an indication of how he would go as a commentator.

I feel bad for folks on HDTV. Most people look like ass up close except for those blessed with perfect skin, so I'm not going to diss anyone. It is sort of funny (and comforting,) when "beautiful" people look wack in HD. Makes it easier for us girls.

Now, I wish I could see feli lopez and blake up close on HDTV. They seem to have the skin and symmetrical features for that kind of scrutiny.

I also love the French commentators' "OO LA LA!" after a tense rally, winner or egregious error.

On ESPN, I've been loving Darren Cahill this tournament (loved his commentary at the AO as well). Also enjoyed him sparring w/Brad Gilbert.

I like Wilander, Fleming and Leif Shiras for commentary and McEnroe, Connors and again Peter Fleming for pre and post match views. Obviously it annoys me when a commentator allows their personal dislikes cloud their judgement of a players ability but it happens and will continue, generally speaking, the guys I named above do an ace job. This year was the first time I heard Wilanders commentate - at first I did'nt like him but after a day or two I that changed and I think that he's as good as there is. You've gotta love Peter Fleming though.

Greg Rusedski is an appaling commentator who suffers from verbal diorrheioa, there has never been a worse commentary pairy than Rusedski and the smarmy ass Andrew Castle, This could possible only be topped by Rusedski and barry Cown who has his tongue stuck up Federer's rectum along with simon drama queen reid complemented by Simon 'state the obvious' Goodall's tactical analysis. Virginia Wade is another awful commentataor who drones on and on. The bet commenator by far is Frew McMillan who has been comfined to 5 live's radio coverage
