17th consecutive tiebreak won, breaks Sampras' record. :worship:
Got lucky in the third set though. Verdasco basically outplayed him in the third set but failed to serve it out.

The third set was awful. Verdasco looked like he'd win it and then melted in the end, he couldn't make a volley or passing shot to save his life.

:yeah: Later I'll do the new thread about that.

Verdasco has so much talent, but can't stay consistant.

What did Roddick utter to his box after the match, reading his lips I thought he " that is so fu*$#%#n' good." So unnecessary.

Best Roddick i've seen in a while those first 2 sets. Thought Verdasco was gonna take the 3rd set after he got that break , as he was playing extremely well on his service games. Roddick fought and broke back though, and wisely put it on cruise control until the tiebreak where he knew Verdasco would choke. Nice match Andy! Mathieu is gonna get smoked.

That's a very good win, this could have been tricky for him. I think the road from here on gets a bit harder for andy

What a choke by Verdasco, he had 4-1, 5-2, 5-4 (40-30) and 6-5 (40-30) in the third set!

Watching the match, you get the feeling that Verdasco has everything in his raquet to beat Roddick, but you know as well he'll lose.

Verdasco does all that work, then comes to net and gives the point away. A terrible volleyer.

Yup, Andy just doing enough to get by, still not playing anywhere near his best tennis yet.

Andy

I was worried about this match. I was more afraid that Andy would do his usual "stand back and wait for the errors" routine but according to people who saw the match he did not do that. When Andy is proactive and plays aggressively I am a happy fan. :)

He did that in first set, but he came to net much more after that.

Watching Fernando play tennis is  . You feel like he's right there capable of winning it and the next second, he chokes. He's brilliant one moment and plays like shit the next. What a waste of talent.
Good job Andy, looks like he'll go through to the semi's to get his spanking from Fed unless the inconsistant Frechies can do something about it.

Verdasco played like he always does, and Andy crushed him pretty easily. Sure, there was the typical flash of brilliance from Verdasco that causes Roddick to usually lose a set, but he stuck it out and closed it in three. Nice, solid win. Andy's looking good :yeah:

How about that brilliant challenge from Verdasco when failing to serve out the third set, eh? Roddick first asked the umpire why on earth he was even letting him challenge, then when the replay showed exactly how many miles out the ball was he looked down the court at Verdasco as if to ask, "What are you trying to pull?"

Verdasco :banghead:
What more does he want than a *5-3 lead, a SP at 5-4* on second serve, a set point at 6-5* also on second serve, to close out a set? It's so frustrating watching him play. Roddick better be careful against Mathieu who seems to be using his head for a change and could give him a lot of trouble off the ground.

Yeah, that was too hopeful it was rather stupid. I'm guessing he just did it for the sake of it. Maybe to check by how much he'd missed or so. Meh, it's Verdasco...

Another match of wasted opportunities for Fernando. So much talent but so little to show for it. :(

ESPN is showing a rerun of the third set. Roddick is down 2-5...

I switch to the Wimbledon thread and see Roddick wins that set 7/6 (2).

I switch the TV off.

Stats:

Verdasco 46 W 27 UFEs
Roddick 26 W 19 UFEs

The internet has ruined me. I used to hate knowing the score before I watched a tournament, now I have to find out to see if watching is worth my time.

What did Roddick utter to his box after the match, reading his lips I thought he " that is so fu*$#%#n' good." So unnecessary. Hard to tell, but I rewound it a few times and I'm pretty sure he did not say the word 'good' - it looked like "i fucking just made it" or something. Presumably it was related to this:
Q. You must have been really happy to pull that third set out.
ANDY RODDICK: Yeah, I was having visions of the Bracciali match when we finished just before the night falls. Wondering if I was going to have to walk off again (laughter).
I think, if anything, it just makes tomorrow a lot less stressful. It is a bit of a relief.
