Seriously, I don't understand what's the problem with Kolya and grass, I mean why don't they like each other?

I would dare to disagree. Kolya should have won in 4 because he totally choked serving for the second set

BUT :worship: AMAZING COMEBACK!!!! He was better prepared physically and that totally paid off as Guccione got really tired towards the end :p

Well done Kolenka

Movement and bounce. Davy relies a lot on movement and on grass it is lacking though if the accounts of grass playing like a hardcourt are true then he should go even deeper.

No, no. Every match has own history. Davydenko should have won 2nd set 6-3 but you can't be sure that the another sets could went 7-6 6-4 for him.

Guccione played quite well for his standards volleying well and hitting some powerful groundstrokes that caused Davydenko some trouble. But unfortunately Davydenko started to find his rhythm on his groundstrokes and returns more and more as the match went on. The turning point was midway through the second set where Davydenko started to hold serve very quickly and then hit a number of good returns to break serve in the next game in which that trend continued for the rest of the match.

We're talking Monfils and then either Nalbandian or Baghdatis (both are inconsistent). If Kolya plays flawless baseline tennis he may have a prayer of going to the QF.

The balls are ridiculously bouncy right now - I wouldn't be shocked. The grass has turned into a complete joke.

I hope Davydenko makes the semi - just to show the Wimbledon snobs that they're ruining the sport.

Guccione is very talented player and he is really very good serv and volleyer. He should have won this match, but Kolya was better in the final set. Davydenko has already achieved his best result at Wimbledon:)

These balls allow Nickie to have a chance here. Anyway, if you can get to the USO semis, you have enough all court game to win some rounds here.

Is it higher bouncing or is it true/predictable bounce?

I read somewhere that the result of changing the composition of grass was a more predictable bounce and slower speed. They should not have changed it but we as fans have to live with this forced uniformity of surfaces.

Nice job for Kolya at the end, completely destroyed Guccione. He is working hard and even fights back from two sets down to get rid off his grasscourt gimp image :) - two wins in a row now already!

Chris, another one of your great chokes. Really, you should of won that match in the thirs, shouldn' of let the match get away for you. What a crappy result, it's been the year of wasted oppurnities.

Davydenko played awesome tennis in the 4th and 5th sets though, barely could miss a return

This shows how much grass is a joke nowadays. Davydenko should never have won this match.

Indeed. But mostly, Kolya was psyching himself out on grasscourts. Grass tournaments have become a surface of returners rather than the surface of serve&volley players for quite a while already.. And Kolya is an excellent returner..

Oh damn, Gucc was there. He was on top in the third set but couldn't find the break and really played only 1 bad point in the breaker. I was going crazy when Davydenko hit those shoelace backhand volley winners from 15-40. They were the worst looking volleys I'd ever seen - looked like he was digging with a shovel.

Unfortunately Chris couldn't close it out before Davydenko started reading his serve.
