Yes, his movement was already great against Volandri and his game seems to be back as well. :woohoo:

It wasn't played on a tv court, which is a shame, but from the sb it looked like his serving was great today.

Kiwi jumps from 0 to 400 in the rankings. ;)

Positive surprise given the circumstances and that he still had a 1-6 H2H entering this match against Santoro. Too bad we saw no pictures of this match, or else I would be even more sure what to think about it. But the stats looked damn strong. Le Magicien: desenchanté pour la 2ème fois, H2H 2-6 already looks a bit better now!

I've missed Kiefer on tour. I'm so glad he's back and playing good tennis.
He could definately give Djokovic some issues on this surface if he keeps it up.

It's nice to have Kiwi back. :bigclap:

But, Fabby  It's okay Fab. You did your job, and everyone a huge favor, by cutting down the Ivo tree.

Kiefer, as much as he remains one of only a tiny tiny number of player that I truly dislike, has such a nice game to watch on grass. He does most shots very well, no one standout weapon but all round nice.

Unfortunately typical result for Santoro in slams, beating bigger than him in early rounds in a tough five setter but losing easily in the next round. Oh well, every upset is a bonus this late in his career.

:yeah: If only everyone would post like that instead of bashing brainlessy when it comes to players they don't like.

I saw the match and I have to say I was amazed at how well Kiefer played. He didn't do anything he hasn't done before but the consistancy of his play, the lack of errors, the patience and discipline shown, the ability to chose the right shot to attack, and the mental focus were all qualities that aren't normally associated with Kiefer but were very much on display today. Both the forehand and backhand were working as well as I have ever seen them, the volleying was strong with good touchshots, the serving fierce and accurate and the returning excellent too.

Obviously for me it was very disappointing to see Fab lose but while he wasn't at his best he certainly didn't play bad. My one critism would be that perhaps, when it became clear that Fab's low bouncing groundies weren't causing Kiefer the problems they usually do, Fab should have attacked the net more. But that is water under the bridge now and I got to say it was very deserved win by Kiefer, in contrast to the extremely undeserved win by Berdych over Santoro last year.

If Kiefer can maintain the high level he showed in this match he will be very hard to beat, I expect him to beat Djokovic in the next round.

Thanks for sharing, Chris, and nice to get it from somebody who was courtside because not many people have an impression of what was going really on. Secretly, I was hoping for you because I knew you are following Santoro and knew you have been at his Wimbledon matches before. Good to hear that Kiefer's behaviour yesterday wasn't near Berdych's last year, and Santoro hopefully had no reason to refuse shaking hands

Thanks Neely, no, Kiefer was on his best behaviour and their was nothing but the mutual regard of two veterans who had earned each others respect over many matches, when they met at the net. :)

I must admit I came out of that match with a renewed respect for Kiefer myself too.
