Who is gonna beat Rafa?

A lot of Rafa lovers in this board but I am asking the less biased more neutral people here.

Rafa has a more difficult draw than last year and if he gets to the final that in itself would be an upset.

Who do you guys think he will lose to ? if you had to put money on it, who do you think Rafa loses to.

A lot of people who like Rafa don't expect for him to win the tournament btw. Just because we don't think he is a chump like his haters do does not mean that we can't be objective.

His draw is full of landmines for him. Robin could be tough- but I think he will pull through. Then he could lose to Youzhny. Later he could lose to Hewitt, Berdych or Djokovic. I think that Berdych would be his toughest test.

Still- as a fan- I would be very happy for him to make the final from his side. If he doesn't - I will be happy with Misha, Nole or Hewitt.

Of course- I am talking about before he even reaches the final- if he makes it- tough task against his likely opponent Federer.

Still- I do think he did well yesterday. He has a good chance to lose to a number of players and imo a 95% chance to lose to Federer. But I can't get on the train that it is a given that he will not, for example, make the semis a'la marcRD. ;) He could get some good wins here even if he does not win the whole thing (which I really, really do not think will happen.)

Söderling, then Youzhny, the Berdych, then Hewitt and last of all Federer. They will all beat him.

well thats tough he cant lose to all of them.... he can only lose to one... so who do you think it will be?

If anyone, I think it would be Federer - if Fed himself manages to get to that final, which might be a given for many, but not for me. Roddick could do well, you never know.

But as Clara already said, there's a chance also Youzny or Berdych could upset Rafa - in case the players manage to get that far in the first place!
I wouldn't put money on ANY of them, actually.

Berdych most probably... He's very good on grass, on Fed stopped him last year. Then again, he is prone to some stupid off days, but against Rafa, he normally seems very fired up!

Soderling has a shout, but it's only a small one. Rafa is definatley the favourite there.

Birdman is scary good on grass. He blazed through Halle without dropping a set, and has not lost to anyone not named Federer on grass in two years.

He's also serving like a cyborg. Birdman has more than a slim chance at the title, no doubt.

Berdych has a comfortable draw to the quarters, and almost certainly should get there. If he doesn't... :o

I'd say he's most likely to take Nadal out.

I actually think that most of Nadal's fans don't expect him to win Wimbledon, not even to reach final this year. I think Berdych is a safe bet. Rafa can beat Robin and Misha (which doesn't mean he will), but if he and Berdych both reach QF, he won't go any further.

You are right about that, and he's in form, as he showed in Halle.
But still he has these occasional off-days when he doesn't seem to be able to hit a ball at all  - if he happens to have one of those against Rafa, Rafa will take him out easily.
So it might well be 'the form of the day' that is deciding.

However, I think Rafa is playing very well, much better than last year, so I still think he'll be able to make it to the final. At least I hope so.

If Soda plays his best than he will beat Nadal but he is unlikely to as his big stage performances are rarely good and Grosjean is not an easy match for him in the 2nd round anyway. Berdych will beat him for certain if he plays as he has been doing lately but that is far from a given. Hewitt then will have a good chance if it is he in the semis and the same goes for Djokovic. If Nadal wins that match then he would likely face Federer and again Federer would be favourite to win.

If he wins the whole tournament a challenge match can be set between Nadal and king Oscar. If Nadal wins that tennis is cancelled forever and Nadal is crowned the lord of the Earth.

Berdych.

I go with what explicit says. Indeed, many Nadal fans don't really expect him to reach the final let alone win it. Sure, I would love him to at least do as good as last year but with this draw? :help:
If I were to bet any money on this, I would put it on Berdych but I wouldn't be surprised to see him lose to Söderling or Youzhny, though.

Soderling is certainly capable of beating him but he's too much of a headcase. If Youzhny is playing well he should since his game is a bad match up against Nadal. Same thing goes for Berdych.

WOW!!...You dont believe Fed will make the final of Wimbledon..but u seem to be pretty sure that Rafa will make it!!...and you want me to believe that you support both roger and rafa......Well what more should the man(apart from winning 10 grandslams..being in 8 straight grandslam finals) do to make his so called fan atleast believe he wil be in the second week..!!....You badly want rafa to win this dont u??...as a result u want to see fed lose early..!!...thts not a problem but dont call urself a roger fan...

I know u had an avatar "smells like clay" during the start of clay season with rogers picture on it...tht man made semis in 2005, and finals in 06 and 07...and u were still taking a dig at him..how come u dont have "smells like grass" with rafa's picture.....just an idea..!!

Who can beat Nadal depends on who can reach him and how dependable they are.

Soderling is not guaranteed to beat Grosjean, but if he does, he may find Nadal too much. Robin does not have the most confidence in his abilities and Nadal is good at taking advantage of players who doubt their abilities.

Youzhny has a good chance to reach the 4th round to face Nadal, but possible 3rd round match against Mayer shouldn't be taken lightly.

Berdych has the best draw of them all. Best grass players in his quarter or Lee, Arthurs and Bjorkman - none of them are in his league if he plays up to 65% of his current grass form.

I think Nadal will make the quarters, but he'll probably find Tomas too much of a match. Quarters wouldn't be a bad run for Rafa though.

Really? The way the grass is playing it's been more like a hardcourt and Youzhny should be able to hit through the court. Nadal's forehand is always a liability on faster surfaces and Youzhny knows how to expose it.

Nadal's forehand is always a liability on faster surfaces and Youzhny knows how to expose it. Unfortunately so far, that has been the truth on 2 quick hardcourts.

Claybuster has been accused by many Rafa fans, e.g. RFK, that she much prefers Federer over Nadal, and only pretends to really like them both equally.

She won't win either way

Youzhny isn't fantastic at dealing with the grass and Nadal has adapted well.

If Berdych and Nadal go deep enough to face each other then as things stand I would have the match in favour of Berdych 60:40.

Berdych could potentially hit Nadal off the court. I think his game is ideally suited to grass and if he has his head screwed on right his easy power and ability to hit the ball near or on the lines will drive Rafa crazy. However this potential match up would be a hard fought and tight affair in my opinion.

A lot of this may depend on form though.. both seem to be in decent form.

If this match does happen I will want Rafa to win.. and go all the way to the final against Federer hopefully... and then I want Federer to win to even the Grand slam final score.

Berdych seems to be the most likely. He seems to be well suited for grass and has the height to not let Nadals strokes affect him too much. Youznhy seems to be a threat as well and even though this court is playing similar to a hardcout it isn't quite the same.

Mansave_75

Rafa has 4 tests before facing Roger in the final Soderling,Youznhy,Berdych and Hewitt/Djokovic...He can win all of them...but the most dangerous is in my opinion Berdych who has a very positive record against him on fast/hard courts...If Nadal wins Thomas in quarters he will be almost in the final.
That's simple.

I don't know about their relative form at the moment, but Berdych has a special animus that makes him play his best against Rafa. On the other hand, it uses up so much of his energy that, if he wins, he's done for the rest of the tournament.

I really hope Tomas doesn't make it to the quarters. If the two meet, I doubt Rafa will beat him. Beyond the bad matchup, in spite of his competitiveness, Rafa doesn't respond well to Berdych's animosity level. But if he DOES beat Berdych, watch out. He'll get to the final and make Federer blink first.
